  • Air does not sleep when lid is closed?

My friend just bought a new 13" Air and it works great except he was confused at the fact that when he closes the lid the laptop does not go to sleep. He noticed this when he closed the laptop in a dark room and the light from the screen was leaking out. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I know on older Apple laptops sleep mode was activated when a magnet in the LCD housing hit a sensor in the upper case when you closed the lid; is this still the case? And if so anyone know where the sensor is located just so I can run a magnet over it to see what happens?

I don't see this behavior at all, but I'm wondering how does he know it's on? When closed the screen virtually seals against the bottom. If the Apple logos lit up? If so then it's obviously on. If not then it's not on.
If it's staying on, it's likely a software problem. Either there is an app or something installed than isn't sleeping or an OS problem. If it really isn't sleeping and no questionable apps have been installed, backing up and reinstalling the OS would likely fix it.

  • MacBook Pro 17" doesn't sleep when top is closed

The problem is described in the title of this thread. Is there a .plist file where the setting for this may have gone wrong.
Have had the MacBook Pro about 5 months. It has functioned normally during most of that time - the computer went to sleep if there was no input for a set amount of time, OR immediately, when the top was closed...until recently. Now, shutting the top puts out the monitor and shuts down the hard drive, but the computer does not sleep until the set amount of time passes, and the computer then sleeps due to inactivity.
May be due to some screen "savers" I installed (from uselesscreations.com and sandiegoscreensavers.com). But I'm not as much looking for causes as a solution to restore default behavior. I suspect a .plist file setting to default values would do it, but which one(s) ?
Thanks for any solutions or clues.

    Might this apply?

Thank you for taking time to read my question and for offering help. But, no, that article does not apply.
The article describes a different problem (monitor failing to go out) to mine (computer failing to go to sleep). The article also describes a cause that cannot possibly be the cause of my computer's problem: Boot Camp Beta. I have never installed Boot Camp Beta, nor any other non-OS X compatibility software, on this computer.

    Hi alangium,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Resetting your computer's PRAM should restore your Macbook Pro's screen appearance.

This article may provide some information about your Mini DisplayPort to AVI adapter.  Have you tried to connect a different VGA monitor to your Macbook to see if you get the same results?

    18. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.
I hope this information helps ....

"Can I use charger 10w without any worreies(damage battery)?"

If you mean "can I get my power adapter replaced under warranty, at the Apple store?", yes.

  • How can i get my macbook pro too stay on and not sleep when lid is closed?

how can i get my macbook pro too stay on and not sleep when lid is closed?

If the machine is asleep, lid closed, and you plug in to an external monitor and an external USB keyboard, the machine will wake, anbd reconfigure the screen resolution for the external monitor, Once it has made this configuration change, you can open the lid and it will continue to address only the external monitor.  At least that's how my early MacBook Pro unibody 13" works. It seems to run a bit cooler this way. It gets quite toasty with the lid closed while doing anything demanding and you are more likely to hear the fan come on.  I have not seen any temps that would cause alarm, but I do get a high speed (6000 rpm), noisy fan sometimes with the lid closed, .
If you operate in the open-lid, external monitor only mode, if you deactivate the monitor for any reason, when it reactivates it will be running both screens, with all the navigation hassles this entails, so I generally set it not to deactivate the screen when in this mode.
Thus I agree with those who say that some of the cooling air is drawn in around the keyboard, the difference in cooling performance is observable.  If you activate istat pro, get the computer hot running in clamshell mode, and open the lid, you can watch the CPU temp drop by a few degrees C within a couple minutes.  It isn't a huge difference, but enough the lower the fan speeds.

  • Vivado hardware server "hw_server" process doesn't close when server is closed

Vivado hardware server "hw_server" process doesn't close when server is closed.
Also, the connecting to the server hangs if a device is physically disconnected and reconnected (usually).
The "hw_server" process continually has to be killed via Task Manager, Vivado has to be closed and reopened sometimes as well.
    Using Vivado 2014.1
    Please fix this.

I'm on 2014.1 as well (Win7-64).  I have a similar problem with 2 different PCs running the same setup.  The Hardware Manager hangs while attempting some activity (usually reconfig).  I click "Cancel" to dismiss the activity, which causes all of Vivado to hang.  Seeing no other option, I kill Vivado in the Task Manager.  However, this has the unfortunate side effect of leaving an orphaned hw_server process that can't be killed by any means, thus requiring a reboot of the PC.
    This is monumentally annoying.
Can someone comment on whether this is due to a known issue, and if it's fixed in 2014.2?

  • I have a new iPad air using autocad 360, when I go to open a file it gets around 70% done and then states I am out of memory.

I am trying to open autocad files on my new iPad air 64mb, I have loaded autocad 360, every time in open the file I get a message that I'm out of memory can some one help

Quit all other open apps then reset the iPad and try again.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
If that doesn't help I would delete the app and download a fresh copy. Be sure you save the file somewhere other than in the app when you do this.

  • My iPad Air doesn't lock with a Smart Cover

I have an iPad Air first generation with iOS 8.2 on it. I purchased an official Apple Smart Cover and the smart lock/unlock does not work. I have the lock/ unlock setting enabled in settings>general.  I have also tried an aftermarket smart case and it doesn't work either.  The screen doesn't lock and I don't hear an audible lock sound.  I have tried restoring my iPad. I took my iPad to the Apple Store and they told me the iPad was out of warranty and offered to sell me a refurbished iPad of the same model for $299.  I was disappointed this was the only option they gave me. What else can I try?

  • How do I get the iPad to be like a refrigerator again? Won't go out when case is closed.

Is it a glitch? If not, where in the preferences can I fix this? Thank you.

The screen sleeps when the magnet in the cover is close enough to the face of the computer.   The sensor is on the face of the iPad just below the volume buttons.   If the cover is not close enough the magnet may not contact the sensor.   The magnet in some covers may shift and not be in the correct spot anymore.
My leather cover doesn't close all the way anymore, just a little warped with age and use.   If I swivel the cover so the volume buttons are on the inside the magnet hits the spot easier.
I have elastic to hold it closed, that helps also or, Place it upside down.

  • My iPad Air gets a error when I try to backup.   It does sync properly.  My iPhone backs up and syncs without isssue.  I am running latest itunes and iOS 8 versions.  Thank you.

My iPad Air gets an unknown error when I try to backup.   It does sync properly.  My iPhone backs up and syncs without isssue.  I am running latest itunes and iOS 8 versions.  Thank you.

Try rebooting your computer and reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

  • IBook doesn't sleep when I close it.

Well, I almost know the reason. I took my iBook to an Apple Center to have my combo replaced. Since it came back, it doesn't go to sleep when I close it. So, it's obvious for me that the guy over there didn't re-assemble my machine properly.
But before I travel to other city again to have this fixed, I want to try software solutions first. Who knows it was a coincidence.
    Thanks for any help.
    JP

    Thanks John.
I'm really sad hearing that because as long as I understood, the guy there will have to open my iBook again to fix just that.
Sincerely, I didn't like the service from the Apple Center. I don't know which tool he used but, the guy who opened my machine dented the lower case while removing it.
The owner of the store tried to tell me that it is a difficult machine to open, but i don't think it's impossible to do it without causing damages to it.
Well, anyway. I'll think if it's worth it.
    Thanks again.
    JP
