My iPad air won't charge or turn on

I've had mu iPad for 8 months, and yesterday when I woke up it turned off by itself. Everytime I turn it on it shows the apple logo for 2 minutes and shows the loading screen. once the circle thingy has gone around one round, it stops. It needs to charge constantly and I left it for charging overnight, but when I woke up, the same thing happened. Please help! And yes, I have ******* tried pressing the lock and home-button at the same time for 10 seconds.

Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

    Z zoozx ,
How could Microsoft come up in a forum about an Apple problem?  We have heard for years how superior Apple products are but we've never had as many headaches and problems with our Windows PCs over the years as we have with the Apple devices we now have.  My wife has the most recent iPad and my son has the most recent ipod Touch. Earlier problems notwithstanding, the iOS 7 upgrade was horrible and hard to imagine for a device where the company controls all of the hardware and the software with no variants.  As for Microsoft, I can say I have programmed on many various platforms from PolyForth to Unix to Windows and .NET.  I think what many Apple users don't understand about Windows is the sheer magnitude of variables in making the software and all upgrades work for such a myriad array of hardware platforms and usage scenarios across an enormous number of partners and small to large enterprises.  Anyone who has worked with a large integrated system can get a sense of this.  I work in healthcare and our HIS system is rated #1 in it's class (built on a derivitive of an old MIT OS) but due to it's vast integration capabilities and the variety of usage and setup variables from site to site, it requires daily dilligence in error reporting and resolution across all of it's applicaitons.  Microsoft Windows works and integrates with a massive number of other Microsoft client and server solutions that are used by the vast majority of enterprises in the world. It's no small feat to keep the Microsoft software stack in good working order.  Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion but I wish we could past this ABM mentality that pervades online forums. I'm not sure if you've noticed but the Apple forums are jam packed with folks like yourself and me having problems with Apple hardware or software so I'm not sure where we can say one is better than the other, even if you could carve out some realistic benchmarks from which we could compare them on an even playing field.
With all the said, and I apologize but feel that the Anti MS anecdotes belong left long in the past, but any ideas on how we can get the supplied power cables to charge the devices they came with? I don't believe I've ever encountered a problem at the power cable level like this in which 2 cables are not working on 2 different devices. I think it points to software problems but as someone else mentioned about display settings, I'm not sure how your display settings affect the charging of a device in a non display mode. Would that suggest the thunderbolt cables are not capable of delivering enough charge to keep up with idle power consumption?

  • IPad Air won't charge with ipad made adapters but only with iPhone's

My ipad air won't charge with any ipad made adapters! but will charge with my iPhone adapter. Oh and I bought my charger and adapter for my iPhone (that I now use for my iPad Air) at a store that doesn't relate to the officials apple store for only 12 dollars sadly when I charge my iPad Air
TTo let you know, my ipad adapter would always get hot so is it a problem with my ipad or adapter

my ipad adapter would always get hot so is it a problem with my ipad or adapter
Since your iPad charges with the phone adapter, the iPad adapter (that is made by who knows) is the problem. You tried to save a few dollars and it did not work. Get a real Apple adapter and your problems will go away.

  • My iPad air won't charge at all and I don't know if it's the charger or port help!i have had a new port put in before and it worked fine after but it's not working now! I have spent way to much trying to fix this thing one problem after another?

My iPad air won't change at all, and I don't know if it's the port or charger cable it is charging normally but it just won't charge. I have had a new port put in before after a charger getting stuck in there but it worked fine after and now it's not working at all! I don't know if maybe it's the charger getting old but I have spent far too much money on this iPad then I should have as it's one problem after another witch is causing me lots of stress.

Try giving your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and try again.
How are you charging it? its's best charged plugged into the wall  not via USB. So if you're trying via USB, try using the supplied power block plugged into the wall.

  • My iPad air won't charge.  I have used both the charge cord that came with it, and a second that I bought at the Apple store.  I have used both the charger that came with the iPad, and others that are working with other iPads.  It charged yesterday.

My iPad Air will not charge.  I have used its original charge cord, and a second Apple lightning cord.  I have used the original charger and others that I have confirmed do work.  It charged yesterday, no problem.

Before going to the Apple store carefully examine the lightning port to make sure no fuzz or other foreign stuff has gotten in there. There are not that many things that can prevent an iPad from charging. You've tried a different cable, different charger and hopefully the reset suggested by Barry in the previous post. Check for debris and if the port is clear Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Since downloading ios8 iPad 2 won't charge or turn on! help!

    Hi guys,
i updated to ios8 last week, since then my ipad2 has done nothing but run terribly slow, two nights ago my battery went low and cut out all together. I put the iPad on charge aand it just won't charge up or turn on at all now.
I Have tried pressing the two buttons together many times. It's been on charge for two days straight, I've plugged it into my laptop to see if the greater power source could boot it up. None of this worked
Tonight i went went to the Trafford centre Apple store and got no help at all. qued for half an hour to get my iPad plugged into a laptop and forgotten about, felt like because I wasn't buying anything they didn't want to know! So going into a store hasn't helped me either.
I Was just wondering has this happened to anyone else? I don't know what to do about it and am lost without it! If anyone has any advice please help!!

    1. The most efficient way to charge an iPad is with the charger that came with the iPad and having that plugged into a wall outlet. Trying to charge while connected to a laptop often doesn't work because the USB port may not provide enough power.
    2. Once an iPad battery has completely drained it may take an hour or more on the wall charger before the iPad responds. So after an hour on the charger reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.
    3. If the iPad still does not start up make an appt at the Apple store. It will be far better if you have an appointment rather than just walking in because those with appointments will be taken care of before you are.

  • My iPad 2 won't charge or turn on anymore

My iPad 2 was working then went dead and now won't charge or even turn on. I have tried different chargers to make sure it wasn't the charger it self. I have been told it might be the port or the battery it self. Or even maybe something called a ghost app could have made it crash, how can I fix this? Can I do it myself?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Ipad Air won't charge?

I had this problem originally about 3-4 months back and buying another cable corrected it. that costed me $15 right there. I seem to be having the same issue again 3-4 months more down the road. I swapped to an off brand one i had from a transaction I did at my store to see if it would still charge and it didn't seem to do much of anything.
I could keep it off and plug it in and there would be no indication by it turning on or anything so I have to assume it didn't function, wasn't compatible, or just isn't the problem.
so today I have purchased $50 worth of ipad accesories... another cable and the usb power charger... I am hoping on eof these correct the problem. If so i will have to take it to a blue shirt as I don't work on tablets.
I just needed a place to  rant and see if anybody else has had similar problems with the Ipad tablets as this is starting to cost me money. And as we business people say... time is money, and more money we spend the less time we have.

    Hey AWBrown-
Ugh, how frustrating.  Hopefully the items you picked up will correct the problem, otherwise, maybe one of our Geek Squad can help.  I'm assuming you're out of warranty or you'd be talking to Apple also.

  • IPad 2 won't charge or turn on...HELP!

I don't usually allow my iPad 2 to completely die, but this was a very busy weekend where I used it very often and didn't have time to charge it.  So last night when it hit about 5% I plugged it in to charge.  This morning I unplugged it expecting it to be fully charged and noticed it was at 1%, and eventually died.  I plugged it in to a computer here at work and it wouldn't charge or recognize the cord.  I then plugged it into the wall expecting that to have been the issue and it still won't recognize the wall charger and won't take a charge.  All that keeps showing is the blinking battery with the plug and lightning bolt sign.  I've tried different power cords and blowing into the bottom (Nintendo style!).  Neither have worked.  My iPad hasn't suffered any trauma that I can think of and has either been in my purse, lying on a table, or in use.  Any ideas of what's going on and how I might be able to fix it???  THANKS!

I can only suggest using the charger that came with your iPad and plug it into a good wall outlet. Let it stay plugged in over night again to see if it charges up.
When an iPad battery is completely discharged and then plugged in to charge it may seem like nothing is happening for some time until the battery reaches some minimum level of charge before the iPad will come to life. Hopefully this is the case with your iPad and it will resume working after being on the charger for a while.
You might also go ahead and try a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your battery problem.

  • Ipad won't charge unless turned off

My iPad 2 won't charge unless turned off and in some cases not at all.  It does this off and on.  Typically, it'll stop charging when turned on and I can turn it off and charge it to over 40% (or so. . . .it varies) and then it will charge the rest of the way while turned on. And then, I can go through long periods --maybe a month-- where it will charge as usual (while on) but then suddenly it will stop charging while on and will only do so when off.  This back and forth has gone on for several months. Today it stopped charging even when off.  Given history, it might kick in and start charging suddenly but I fear that the battery could run out this time and I'll not be able to charge and restart it. I'm at 20%.  I am using the iPad 10W charger and I have a new one so the cord is good and it works to charge my iPhone as well.  I have also tried rebooting the system, holding down the home and start button.  Anyone have experience with this and a solution?

you can also try the universal troubleshooting step of resetting your iPad. No data is lost so don't worry.
You can reset your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

    Did you try this?
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Apple Does Not recommend that. Please Read.

    From that article
    "Portables with built-in batteries"
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Apple recommend calibrating the battery when you buy a new Macbook and then every few months, or monthly if it used on mains all the time. This, as Apple says is to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency. When the battery discharges and shuts the macbook down, it still has reserve power for a good number of hours. There is also a logic board battery to hold various settings.
I rather think I will take Apples advice on using their equipment not yours, but I would be intrigued to discover what is it you know that Apple doesnt about its batteries?
