My iPad cannot download any apps or even update to the latest iOS 8

WWhenever I go on to the App Store and pick a free app and download it, it just starts loading for quite a long time then stops and whenever I go To settings<general<Software update, and I tap it it starts searching for one then it says unable to check for update an error has occurred then it stops! WWhat can I do ?! I am using an iPad 2 By the way just incase you are asking

Welcome to the Support Communities!  It sounds like you are having issues connecting to the iTunes Store since this is affecting apps and software udates.  The resources below will provide some troubleshooting steps to take:

If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time. 
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update(iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.

    I have this problem too since ios6 upgrade.
    4S iphone  I can connect to itunes on 3g and download an app no problem.
    I can connect to wifi no problem and use safari , facebook etc...I can connect to appstore but cannot install any apps over the wifi. 'Unable to conect to itunes'.....

    If so, do they update?
    Are you able to then sync those updated apps to the device from iTunes?

    I cannot download any app from my iPhone 5 and only from my iPhone because when I purchase from my iPad or my Mac it works right, and always shows up this message "Could not be purchased at this time. Please try again later", it appears no matter if I download a paid app or free app, it always appears.

    If you have a credit card on your account then it will need to be valid and accepted by the store, if not then you won't be able to download anything until you have valie payment details.
    If it's a credit card (i don't think that debit cards are still accepted) then is it registered to exactly the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, it was issued by a bank in your country and you are currently in that country ? If it is then you could check with the card issuer to see if it's them that are declining it, and if not then try contacting iTunes support and see if they know why it's being declined : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management

    Is the address on your iTunes account exactly the same (format and spacing etc) as on your credit card bill : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646 ? If it is then you could try what it says at the bottom of that page :
    If the issue persists, contact your credit card company and verify that they and any company they use to process credit card authorisations have the correct information on file.
    And/or try contacting iTunes support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

    I had the same msg come up, go in2 setup, options, date and time. Now have a fiddle about with these settings. U mite have 2 change ur time zone 2 another country in the same time zone as u if that makes sense? Worked 4 me and many more people I've read about on here.

    You need to restore it with iTunes or wipe it from the phone itself... Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.  Either of these will create a factory fresh phone, thus removing the restrictions.  Note that ALL user data will be wiped.
