My iPad email says incorrect user name or password but it has always worked as it is set up
My iPad mail is not receiving mail. It says incorrect user name or password but it is the same as it has been since I got my iPad. The server connection is ok as I can get email through the internet.

This is a little odd, so from what you've said nothing has changed at all on your iPad?
Are you able to access your email account via webmail, for example I have a GMAIL account and can access this via www.gmail.com if so can you login there using the expected credentials?

Unpower it. If it still happens on a restart give it time - Apple's servers sometimes have glitches.

If the old ID ("email address") is your ID, and if your new ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I have this question too (0) Categories: Mail and Address bookCheck the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional. -
Never had trouble before with my incoming mail but just now getting messege that says the user name or password for verizon is incorrect yet my home computer is fine only have this od my iPad
I experienced same problem tonight and called Verizon technical support and they walked me through the settings on iPad. Took about 5 minutes. Basically it involved changing incoming.verizon.net to pop.verizon.net and changing outgoing.verizon.net to smtp.verizon.net. But it's worth the call to ensure other settings are OK. Evidently, change at Verizon was effective today!

I Cannot get my emails on two aol accounts,it says my user name or password is incorrect but I have not altered it.tried deleting and re installing my email accounts but still no luck,any help would be appreciated tried syncing from my computer too.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Incorrect user name or password Again !!!!!
I can connect to my email through windows live mail on my desktop but once again every hour or so for the last 3 days on my android tablet or phone I keep getting "incorrect user name or password" on 3 different email addresses. I fill in the box with my password and off we go for about an hour then the same happens. I can log in to bt yahoo mail on the web with no problem when this happens but not with the email client installed on my tablet or phone. This happened about a month ago for a week then stopped and I had several episodes last year. Can someone tell me what's going I haven't changed any setting or anything and now I am gettig sick to death of it !!!!
Spoiler (Highlight to read)If you could access your email via webmail on a browser the "idiot"should have told you there was nothing wrong. All BT agree to provide is email via webmail. They provide the settings to allow you to use email clients or apps but they do not support this method of accessing your email. This is in line will all other ISPs. There are far to many email clients and variables over which they have no control for them to be able to provide solutions for every email client on the market.
As you have found, usually when the problem you starts and provided you can still access it via webmail, the best thing to do is leave it alone and it usaually sorts itself out in a day or so. -
Incorrect user name or password
My email works for almost a full day, then loses its settings and gives the error " incorrect user name or password." Re-booting doesn't correct the problem. I have deleted my mail account each evening for the last 3 days and set up a new account. It works for most of the next day and then quits again. Please help.
Just out of curiosity, who is your mail provider? Yahoo, aol or hotmail?

You can set up your iCloud account on your iOS device under: "Settings > iCloud" and a other account for store purchases under "Settings > iTunes & App Stores". Unfortunately merging accounts is not possible but you could transfer all of your music manually via iTunes from your Mac or PC. -

I am trying to get into my iCloud account and it is saying "Invalid User Name or Password". I thought that you use your Apple I.D. and password, but that does not work! So, how do you reset your user name and/or password if you don't know what ones ICloud is seeking....
After resetting your password you might then need to log out of your account on your device by phone on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores if it's on iOS 6) and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on it

Active Directory "Invalid User name and password" but have joined before
I have had a small handful of machine repeat the same thing. A workstation may still login but with an old PW, it will no longer authenticate to the domain. In times past I have been able to track the edu.kerberos.mit file and the directoryServices perference files. And then rebind the computer to the domain. These computers will begin to rejoin to the domain, but stop at step 3 which is verifying credentials and report and error saying my user name and password is incorrect, but they are correct. Keep in mind it goes through steps 1-3 very quickly. In the logs for Directory Services it tell me _Kerberos does not have a record for the server and it displays our domain controller. Then another right under saying Kpasswd does not have any record of the server. To me this indicates a Kerberos problem and KDC, which I understand runs locally on the machine now with Leopard. Keep in mind a new machine (machine I just imaged) will bind perfect.
Some machines even show still connected to the domain, one I could search via DSCL, but when I went to unbind it gave me a password error.
It seems like a password issue. Any suggestions?I don't have Vista...
