My IPad goes to sleep too soon.  Is this adjustable?

How do I adjust time before my IPad goes to sleep while I'm using it?

Settings - General - Auto-lock - Change the duration.  2, 5, 10, 15minutes or never.

  • Fix for iPad going to sleep?

We're using our iPad in conjunction with AppleTV and we're having an issue with the iPad going into sleep mode in the middle of presentations. I see where the autolock can be set for as high as 15 minutes, wasn't there once a "never" option? We are running 5.0.1 at this time. If not in settings, is there an app or any other fix that anyone knows about that will give me a "never" type option for the device not to go into sleep mode? Thanks.

Be thankful they at least let you have the 15 minute timeout!  My past employer not only enforced the long passcode format, but they only allowed the 1 minute timeout feature - and there was no chance of getting any of their security settings changed (IT was very strict about that).
Also, for those deleting the account, changing things, and re-installing the account - odds are it will revert sometime, as the server is often setup to periodically push out the security certificate and overright the old one.

  • My email attachments cannot been seen on my Ipad. I think they are mostly in quicktime. When I touch the icon, the start to load but thats all and after a while my Ipad goes in sleeping time! What can I do.

I have problems with attechments of mails when it is a short movie (mostley humor). They come in my mailbox wot quicktime and i tru to open them but my ipad loads them but keeps showing "loading" but nothing happens. After a while my ipad goes in sleepingtime. So it doesn't give a faillure or some other choises. This is a problem because now i can only see those mails on my labtop (sorry not from apple) Is there any solution for this problem.

    Install the Flex:Player App;  http://itunes.apple.com/app/flex-player/id451024857?alreadyRedirected=1&mt=8
Then you can open the movies, keep tapping on them and choose Open in Flex:Player.

  • 2011 Clamshell mode (sleeping too soon)

    New MacBook 2011 15", 10.6.7 updated
When In clamshell mode, if I turn the TV to a different input source (or turn it off), the computer goes to sleep right away. My 2008 Macbook will stay on however, allowing me to VNC with iTeleport (until the sleep scheduler kicks in normally).
Is there a setting I am missing to keep it from shutting off right away? I read about resetting SMC, but thought that was extreme for a brand new machine just out of the box.
    Thank you.

(All energy saver settings are set to "always on", computer power is plugged in and is connected to bluetooth keyboard and touchpad).
When I VNC during the process, the screen goes blank on the remote VNC device but you can still see the top menu bar. When I switch the TV back to the correct source, the screen comes back and the VNC connection is never lost...

  • Why do I drop my personal hotspot from my iphone to ipad whenever my ipad goes to sleep?

OK, so I have the new ipad wifi only. Whenever there isn't a wifi signal around, I turn on my Personal hotspot from my iphone and sync internet via Bluetooth. First, the process to recognize pairing always seems to be sporadic. It takes a long time for my ipad to see my iphone's attempt to establish pairing. Most of the time I have to turn both Bluetooth's settings off and then on to establish pairing. Then, once I do gain a connection, if my ipad goes into Auto-Lock after 2 minutes of inactivity, my pairing is lost and I have to start the proess all over again. It's very annoying. Any suggestions would be great appreciated.

  • Hard drives keep going to sleep too fast

I have trouble with my internal hard drives on my G5 going to sleep within a couple of minutes. I have two internal hard drives and two external connected by firewire. They all have this problem and its a pain to have to wait for them all to spin up every time a take a break for more than a couple of minutes.
It also creates a problem burning disks within the internal writer. If the hard drive goes to sleep while burning a disk, it causes Toast to freeze.
I have tried unchecking "put hard disks to sleep when possible" in the systems preference and set the energy saver not to activate for three hours, but it has no affect.
I am running 10.4.11 on the G5 Gray Tower. Anyone know how to cure this problem?

The only external drive I have connected is the DVD-R drive via firewire. I tried disconnecting that and was able to burn a DVD without the internal drive going to sleep.
Why does having an external drive connected cause this sleep problem?

  • IMac sleeps too soon since Mountain Lion

I have a mid 2011 iMac i5 27'' on which I have installed Mountain Lion.
Everything is working great, except for one thing.
I have my Energy Saver set to the default Sleep of 10 mins of non use. Whenever I was downloading anything under Lion it would always stay awake until the download had finished, even if that was 2 or 3 hours. Since changing to Mountain Lion my iMac sleeps exactly as per Energy Saver settings regardless of the fact that there is network/hard drive activity.
It does this whether downloading to the internal hard drive or an external USB drive.
Is there a setting somewhere which needs tweaking? I have tried checking/unchecking "Wake for Network Access", but that doesn't make any difference.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Stepppy,
I have always used uTorrent on windows for my torrent-downloads. When I got my first Mac 1 month ago, Mac Mini (mid 2011), I was amazed at how Lion handled uTorrent! The Lion slept, while the torrents were downloading. For 2 days I worked like this. When I saw a FREE upgrade possibility for Mountain Lion I did not hesitate and downloaded...... expecting it to be better ofcourse..... I was wrong.
I use the mac solely for downloads and watching movies and shows(hooked up to my Sony LED 46HX820...sweet!).
After some browsing I finally found the caffeinate command to be the best work-around see (h t t p : //apple. stackexchange. com/questions/57951/mountain-lion-sleeps-too-aggressively), that is until the guys at uTorrent update the software, which they promised to do see (h t t p : //forum. utorrent . com / viewtopic . php ? id= 122652)
This is my setup for uTorrent:
My sleep settings for screen and hard disks are set to 1 minute, just because, I don't know, just because!
I open Terminal and use this command everytime I start downloads with uTorrent:
    caffeinate -i open -W -a utorrent.app
(for other apps use that app's name instead of utorrent.app)
This should keep the system awake as long as uTorrent is running and not idle. To prevent any sleep at all, use -s instead of -i.
And I always set my uTorrent to Sleep After Downloads Complete.
I hope this helps you and some others.
Ofcourse, this is not what we want eventually, but I don't find it necessary to go back to Lion for this problem and I just hope the app will get an update!
    Good luck

  • I bought a movie three days ago.  It begins to download from the cloud, then my iPad goes to sleep and when I open it again, it starts downloading from the BEGINNING.  How do I get the WHOLE MOVIE to download?  I have re-booted but that didn't help.

I can't seem to figure out how to download a movie.  It begins to download (and yes, I've checked my download speed and my bandwidth and both should, in theory, be adequate to download a movie!) but then the iPad will go to sleep and when I get back to it, it shows that I have bought the movie but nothing is downloaded.  And when I try to download the next time, nothing is saved and it starts again from the beginning of the download.
I sat down by my iPad while I was working and every few minutes I would swipe to turn it on and it got over half of the movie downloaded.  But then I had to go to leave and now it shows nothing is downloaded.
I can see having it take a few hours to download IF one was able to just start the download and walk away and come back later to watch the movie.  But to have to repeatedly begin from the start of the download is incredibly frustrating.  I would want my money refunded to my iTunes account at this point, if I was able to do that.  It's just not worth the hassle.
Suggestions?  How does one download a movie from iTunes?  It should not have to be this hard!!

See if you can redownload it.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If you can then delete from your iPod if you can and redownload.
If you can't delete from iPod, go to to iTunes>Store>Check for Available Downloads on your computer ,  amd dpwnload and sync

  • My ipad goes on sleeping mood, and no just blank screen appears

while installing icloud ,my ipad 2 stopped working,
screen is blank and looks work in progress for more than 2 hours,
i tried to shut it down, but no responce, neither getting shut down, nor working

perhaps you have to restart your iPad.
Press and hold the Lock button and the Home button  for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Lock button until the Apple logo appears.
    good luck !

  • How do i keep my ipad from disconnecting from wifi when it goes to sleep

I use my iPad mini for grades at school.  Everytime the iPad goes to sleep, it loses the WiFi connection and I have to log in again.  How can I keep the WiFi connected?

Your ipad will always loose connection once it goes to sleep. There is no way to keep it connected. The only suggestion would be to see if whatever application you are using has a "save password" feature.
    hope this helps

  • Why does my iPad lose the network I'm on when it goes to sleep?

I Just moved in with someone and I have to manually join the network every time I turn my iPad on. Now all of a sudden, every time my iPad goes to sleep it loses the connection all together. I've already tried resetting the network and also location in the settings. Any other ideas?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Safari unable to load page after iPad wakes from sleep

I have my WiFi iPad running 4.2.1. Whenever the iPad goes to sleep, when I wake it to access Safari, Safari cannot load a page or reload a page. It says the page cannot be accessed and times out. I always have to go to settings and turn the wifi off and back on. Is there some way to resolve this issue with iPad's Safari?

This is definitely an iOS 4 issue and Apple needs to correct the bug.
Then what do you want from us? We're all users like you. By the way, mine works fine.
LikeSpez: if you read Philly's response to Carol's post you should note that the renew lease solution is a) faster to execute, b) addresses the bug more directly and c) eliminates several unnecessary steps.
We are all seeing the same issue on a variety of routers with the common denominator being the iPad on 4.2.1. My 3GS iPhone running on 4.1 has never needed a renew lease while employing the exact same hnetworks that the iPad is using.
We need an app to do renew lease. We could just tap it instead of wading through the setup screens.
