My ipad has been stolen or lost. How to track it down?

I don't have the Find Me app and the mobile me locator cannot find it. Is there any way to find its location with the serial number or any other way? Anything helps. Man this *****.

    The thief must also have access to your email, so you need to change your email password.  Most likely what is really happening is that the thief is trying to access your itunes account and is entering the wrong password too many times, in which case it will automatically be  reset.

    Yes, I filed police report, but there is nothing they can do until I get back to them on the tracking. It's been offline. I'm sure the whoever took it can find a way around breaking in the ipad..i really was hoping to get my pictures and videos of my kids back

    If you still have the box it should be on it.  Otherwise you might want to try contacting your Cell carrier.  They should have the IMEI that was  registered with them for cellular service on the iPad.

    In order for a lost iPhone to be located you have to have set 'Find My iPhone' up on it before losing it, and it has to be on, not wiped, and able to connect to a network (how else could it transmit its location) - if any of these conditions is not true then locating it is not possible.
