My ipad has losts its sound

I have a first generation iPad, I know I should buy a new one!
IOS 6.1.3
Recently I have lost the use of the toggle switch for turning the sound up and down. I have tried all the usual use slide switch to lock rotation and mute but it doesn't work no matter how I set it.
I know the sound works as I get the usual tones when new messages arrive
Any thoughts or ideas greatly appreciated
Regards
Darren

  • Since my ipad update to iOS 7.0.2 my iPad has lost all sound , can anyone help me ?

Since I updated to ios7.0.2 my iPad 4 has lost all sound. I have no sound on any function or app since I updated. My battery is also draining much faster than before the update. Can anyone help me with a fix for the sound issue?

A number of people have complained of this happening to their iPads. The only recommendation I've seen is to shut down and restart the device. Do this by holding down the power button and "Home" button together for ~ 10 seconds. A red slider will appear asking if you want to shut down. After shutting down the iPad, restart by holding down the power button until you see the Apple logo appear.

  • My iPhone has lost its sound for calls

my Iphone has lost it's sound for calls & notifications??? Help ! Otherwise, it works fine. ????

    Hi,
You could certainly Try a Reset of the Phone...
You will Not Lose Any Data...
    Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
The Apple logo will Appear and then Disappear...
    Usually takes about 10 - 15 Seconds...
    Turn the Phone On...
If that does not help... See Here:

  • My Iphone has lost its sound

About a month ago i lost all sounds from my iphone 3g.
It works perfectly apart from the sounds. No ringing, clicking, ipod, anything with sound does not work.
It all works fine through the headphones.
I have tried removing and replacing the headphones hundreds of times and also blowing into the jack but i'm pretty sure my phone is not stuck in headphone mode as i've done the tests to see.
It happened after an update so i have the most updated version.
I have tried a reset, restore and just about everything i can find on the net forums.
The only other option i have is to take it into the store and send it away to be looked at, but i am reluctant to do this as it is not insured and i am due a new contract next month.
Any ideas of something new i can try???

Try this to verify that it definitely isn't that it's stuck in headphone mode.
For me, when I'm using the iPod app, it remembers the volume last used for both speaker and headphones so if I'm playing something and I pull the headphones out it pauses the song and I can visibly see the volume change without my input. So try setting different volumes for each state and see if yours does the same thing.
Maybe the speaker is simply dead.

  • HT4085 my ipad 3 lost its sound.

I tried both ways (switch the button and unmute) but it still doesnt work. All the sounds including apps, key luck , keyboard, video and etc. are lost. I only get sounds using the headphones. Please HELPP!!

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off".

  • My ipad has lost its sync with my mac.

For some reason my ipad is not recognised by my mac's itunes library.  It wants to delete and resync.  I have back it up manually - but I want to make sure that game settings etc are not lost forever.  If I sync (erase and reinstall) can I then back up manually the game settings / levels?
    Thanks

Yes - you should be able to restore from the backup if needed and that should restore your game data - as long as you perform the manual backup before you erase and install. You may find that even if you select erase and install that everything will be OK anyway - because you are installing your own iTunes library back onto the iPad. It's not like you are syncing to a new computer - you are still syncing to your own iTunes library.
Look at this article - is this what you are experiencing by some chance?
    http://itsmichaelw.com/tutorials/this-computer-has-been-previously-synced-with-a n-iphone-or-another-ios-device/
But have you tried quitting iTunes, rebooting the Mac and restarting the iPad? Sometimes I get weird messages from iTunes and if I restart all devices, things return to normal.

  • ITouch G5 has lost its sound function

My iTouch G 5 has again lost sound.  This happened about 5 weeks ago (the device is 4 months old) and I brought it to
a very reputable Apple reseller.  I was told it was not the device, but probably a software problem---they did fix it.
It has now happened again (I use it to listen to podcasts and newscasts---and to access email; I don't even use it for
music listening, and the number of apps loaded onto it is very minimal).
Is there a way that the sound function could be restored without my having to bring the iTouch in for repairs when this
happens?  (The repair fee wasn't huge, but if this keeps happening, it will add up).   Thanks for any insights.
    (I'm REALLY technically challenged!)

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • My computer has lost its sound

My computer was working fine yesterday, but something has happened that made it silent. I've checked the little speaker icon in the menu bar, and I've checked "System Preferences">Sound, and the settings seem to be in order. Since my computer is only about two weeks old, I have to assume that I must have done something wrong, but what?

    This pops
up from time to time where another app changes the
MIDI sound preferences and as a result, your sound
vanishes. Try opening Garage Band and playing one of
the sample loops. This resets the prefs to the
defaults and if that was the cause of the missing
    sound, you sound will return.
I couldn't find any sample loops, but that's probably because I've never even clicked once before on Garageband. I did manage to play some notes on a keyboard, but that didn't help. Still, your advice sounds good, and I'll fool around with Garageband when I get back from a trip I have to make tomorrow. Thanks for the tip. I hope this isn't a sample of what my MacBook is going to be putting me through in the future. I never had anything like this with my iMac.

  • G4 dual 500 os9.2 has lost its' sound!

No chime, no itunes, no misic. Did clean install.....same result. History: there was this lightning storm and after everything worked then 4hrs. later no sound.???
    thanks in advance, OB

Old bones, welcome, first make sure the computer is not set to Mute, now do you have any external speakers, a microphone or any other device plugged into the ports if so remove them. Also you might try plugging something in them to see if that works.
    Now try resetting the PMU.
Also do you have adequate surge protectors.

  • My ipad has lost it's sound

My ipad has lost it's sound

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.
