My iPad has no sound

My iPad has no sound

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
1. Go to Settings
2. Tap on General
3. Tap on Reset
4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

  • My Ipad has lost sound

So my Ipad, 3rd generation, has lost sound.  The volume controls have dissappeared on the task bar, the mute button is not switched on.  But when I use the side button for volume control, I just get the little messgae sound effects.
When I switch the mute button off and on, it shows full volume, or what ever volume I set it at using the little bar in the settings menu for sound.
I get volume after restating my ipad and entering my password, but then it's gone.  I also get sound, when I ask Siri, and she talks when ask her a question. I have even restored the ipad software, but what ever is causing the problem is being reinstalled when the back up loads.
How can I can fix this?  Is anyone one else having this issue?

There have been a number of people that have talked about this same issue for weeks now. I have no idea what causes it, not have I seen anyone say that something specific fixed it. If you restored from a backup - like you said yourself - you could be restoring whatever glitch in the settings causes this to happen.
Have you tried resetting all settings? Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
I reset all of my settings yesterday because I was trying to fix a really weird issue with my Automatic Time Zone setting. It seemed to fix the issue for me. I don't know of it was just a coincidence or not, but it is working properly again for me now.
You will have to go through all of the settings in the settings app and set everything up all over again. You will have to join your home network again. You will have to allow access to all of the apps in the Privacy setting, enable Siri again, Select your custom wallpaper again, reset your brightness level .... All of that stuff.
If that doesn't work, then the next step would be to restore as new and see if the volume comes back, then start adding all of your content back to the iPad.

  • Hi i have asked for this help before and it was fixed but cant remember how to do it My ipad has lost sound in certain apps and general typing i remember fixing it through the settings can any one please help it not the mute

Hi I have had this problem before butr cant remember how to fix it . What has happened is certain apps have no sound where as others do I also have no sound when typing.I remember when i last asked for help with this problem it was done through settings. It not on mute Please help me.

You can enable keyboard sounds via Settings > General > Sounds . If they are enabled but you can't hear them then have you checked that you haven't got notifications muted (which will also affect most apps) ?
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • IPad has no sound except with headphones?

I've tried all the  suggestions, pushing/pulling the jack in and out, backed up my iPad and then reset to factory setting and restored it, toggled the controller button between orientation and mute, hit the home button twice and closed all the apps running...I'm running out of options.   I am still under hardware warranty.  I bought it from Best Buy, should I take it back there, or to an apple store?

Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. See if better. If not, clean again with toothbrush and small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol. If still problem, faulty part could still be iPhone charging port with attached flex cable.

  • 1st gen iPad with iOS 5.1.1 has no sound!

My iPad has no sound.  I've tinkered with the settings.  I've restored the settings.  I've erased the iPad of all content.  Nothing has helped.  I read somewhere that iOS 5.1.1 upgrade may have caused this.  Is there a solution???  Can I revert back to a previous iOS?

Do you get sounds in any apps e.g. Music and Videos but not others ? If you do get sound in Music and Videos then check what Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), and you can either mute/unmute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
In terms of downgrading the iOS version then no, that is not supported

  • IPad 2 has no sound unless I use headphones???

My iPad has no sound unless I use headphones. Any suggestions? I have checked all settings, etc.

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound. Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon; press home again to exit the taskbar. • IPad video has no sound

why when I am accessing the site www.sportlemon.tv (www.trombar.com) the video has no sound?

    Found the fix.
If the reboot doesn't fix it.
If the headphoens work find, but no external speakers.
If the double-click and page right to the software mute, doesn't show the sound knob - just the brightness
If your pop-up shows "Docking Station"
Then, the problem is very likely a dirty connector.  The iPad/iPhone/iPod connector uses a resistor value to determine if the device is connected to an external 'speaker'.  There are a range of resistances, for a range of products.  This is known as the Connector Pin 21 issue.
Take some windex on a que-tip, or perhaps a Windex paper scrub and rub it on the bottom connector port.  Somehow, "something" has gotten on those contacts, and it is pulling the voltage on pin #21 down - so that the iPad "thinks" it's connected to an external speaker - this will disable the internal speaker circuitry, as well as the internal speaker volume controls.
Do not over-saturate and short out your iPad.  Do not throw it in the sink, do not use the kitchen faucet to flush it out.  A Que-tip with a few drops of Windex (or other gentle cleaner) should work just fine.  Takes all of 30 seconds - and magically, the volume knob appeared and everything worked just fine.

  • My iPad has suddenly lost all sound

My iPad has suddenly lost all sound.

All sounds are gone? Did you check the music or videos app for sound? If they have sound, system sounds are muted.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.
