Can you see your WiFi router from any other computer or device like an iPhone?
Was your iPad ever able to detect WiFi?  If so, what changed?  If it never was able, try Akissgr's suggestion.
The router may be new to you, but could have been sitting in the store or a warehouse for months.  It would be worthwhile to check if there is a firmware update for it..  Perhaps there is some detail in the router's setup that can be changed to make it work.
