My ipad does not appear in Itunes to restore or back up data. Thestatus of my device are:
- updated the latest Itunes version 10.6 .
- tried to restart Apple Mobile Device in Window but it still doesn't work.
- Could not restore in DFU becasue the window doesn't recognize ipad. It appeared cable & itunes disk images but it itunes does not recognize.
- When i pluged the ipad in my laptop, window could not reconize ipad neither.
Please help to solve it!

Let me summary what i have done in the last few days to try to fix the issue taht the new ipad does not appear on itunes 10.6 so that you guys can have an overview to help me :
- removed previous itunes together with Apple Mobile Device and Bonjours
- Reinstall latest version Itunes
- restart computer (for sure the problem not from laptop becasue my other new ipad and iphone4 stil work well with itunes)
- tried using recovery mode when the iPad is connected with computer and iTunes open; Keep the Powerbutton and the Homebutton pressed at the same time until see the Apple logo on iPad screen.Then wait for about 10 minutes (i repeat this step many times). Ipad is turned on but still not connect to itunes or no notice board appeared on itunes to start restore
- I changed the usb cable/port...nothing change
status of device is:
- battery is fully charged
- My laptop (window 7)
- All what i can get is the ipad is charged when i plug in laptop.
- no apple device is recognized on "my computer" window
- no images tab is pop up as usual to copy photo

I had the same problem. found a dozen different solutions in various forums. None worked.
One of the official responses TS1538 came very close and sounded promising. I found that the usb device did not appear in device manager. The ipad appeared only in the imaging devices.
The instructions were to right click on the entry in images and update the driver, pointing at
program files\common files\apple\drivers\usbaapl.inf.
This told me that my device was not found in the driver. date on the files was 2009. date on the files in another pc which worked was 2011.
I had already re-installed itunes, which I thought should install the necessary driver.
Decided to fool it. copied the files in the above folder and then deleted them. Then re-installed itunes again.
Fixed.
So why doesnt itunes installation over-ride the old files?
Why doesnt apple tell us about this fix.
Why did I buy and apple?

Did it ever work? What version of iTunes are you using? (The latest is 10.3.1 as of today.)
You might have a defective cable. I suggest you try carefully disconnecting and reconnecting it to the iPad, to be sure it is making good contact. If you have the iPad 2, there is a slight compatibility problem with the old dock due to the shape of the iPad 2's bottom.

What content are you wanting to copy of the iPad ? You should be able to copy off anything that you've purchased from Apple (films, music, ibooks, apps etc) by connecting the iPad to your computer's iTunes and doing File > Transfer Purchases. If you want to copy off music copied from your own CDs or purchased from other sites then you will need to find a program for your computer that can copy them off – iTunes won't copy them off.
For photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit or saved from emails/websites then you should be able to copy them off via the Windows camera wizard.
For photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.
Content in third-party apps (documents and files etc) then how you copy that content off will depend upon what the apps that they are in support e.g.either via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.

Ipad 1 not appearing in itunes. I am running 10.6.8 and have itunes 10.3.1

I have been given a first generation ipad and it will not appear in itunes. I have 10.6.8 installed with itunes 10.3.1. I connected the cable to the USB port in the back of the computer and when i connect to the ipad there is the audible sound when a connection is made like a "chime" but nothing appears in itunes. I looked at some troubleshooting sites and removed itunes and reinstalled it again but the problem still exists. I can download apps but cant get them to the ipad because "it's not there". Please help. Three frustrated kids and one swearing grown up.

I followed the instructions carefully and it still wouldn't work. Apparently my device was in the "rare circumstances" etc etc. I followed another link on the page which took me to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3540 where I followed the instructions there and voila! problem resolved. IPad does not appear in iTunes Devices list

My MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad are all on the same network, however my iPad frequently does not appear in iTunes Devices when not physically connected by USB. No problem with my iPhone. Anyone else with this problem? Any solution? (Yes, all OS/iTunes softwares are current.)
Further detail, to temporarily fix this issue, I physically connect my iPad via USB to sync it. Temporarily the iPad will be seen in the device list allowing sycing to occur while remotely charging, but at some random time later my iPad is no longer found by iTunes - again without the physical USB link. So, yes there is a work around, but it is annoying to be so up and down with this feature.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Ipad does not appear on itunes 11

My first gen ipad and my iphone 5 do not appear in itunes 11 (even though the computer recognizes the devices when they are plugged in to import photos. Wifi sync does not work either. Any help?

TS1591 iPad will not appear in Itunes

My iPad 2 will not appear in Itunes. I have looked at other apple support pages and no of them have worked for me. It shows that the iPad is charging when I plug it into the computer but it will not show in Itunes.

I had the same problem -- here is what I did to fix it:
I turned my phone off and turned off iTunes. I then turned my phone on and then connected the phone to the computer. It automatically launched iTunes and showed up under the devices.

IPad 4 not appearing in iTunes on PC?

I have been trying to connect my iPad 4 to my PC to sinc my iTunes music. My computer recognizes the iPad, but nothing appears on the iTunes. The 'devices'section doesn't appear. I know my iTunes works correctly... I plugged in my iPod into the same USB port, and the 'devices' section appears.
I have the newest version of iTunes. I looked on the apple site and tried their trouble shooting steps. I restarted the iPad and my PC, I stopped other programs that were running on the PC, I fully charged the iPad.
Any ideas on why iTunes is not working nicely?

Why is my latest iPad backup not appearing in iTunes?

I'm running the iTunes on Windows.
I backed up my iPad last week before updating to iOS.8.0.2 and now I have gone in to restore the iPad it seems my devise is not listed.
I have checked the Mobilesync Backup folder and I am pretty sure the Backup folder is there (date and time of the backup I did) but even when I take them all out and move them all back - as instructed on other threads - the iTunes does not recognise the preferred backup - and nor any previous backups for this iPad 4.
I have the latest iTunes version and the iPad too the upgrade in iOS OK - I'm desperate for a fix! Can anyone help?
My phone and iPod both took the upgrade OK and can be backed up etc as normal - it's just the iPad.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

IPad will not appear in iTunes, nor show "charging" icon

While on a recent road trip, my iPad mysteriously stopped charging when connected to a wall plug. Or so I thought, as the "charging" icon never appeared. However, if left plugged in long enough, the iPad would slowly (very slowly) recharge. The same iPad will no longer appear in iTunes for synching. As I have multiple cables, I don't think my problem is with the cable, which works fine for my iPhone. Suggestions? Ideas?

Im having exactly the same issue with the syncing, but I can plug into the charger in an outlet and the IPAD charges fairly quickly. If I am plugged into my book pro then the IPAD is not detected at all.
I wiped mine thinking it had corrupted but now I only have the icon of the cable and ITUNES logo similar to when first purchased and starting up. Even though plugged in it will not detect. I have 3 cables, all of which work with my iphone 4 when plugged into my book pro.
