My ipad is stuck in landscape mode.  how do i get it to autorotate again?

My ipad is stuck in landscape mode.  I have closed all open apps and rebooted, but still didn't help.  Any suggestions?

Double click the home button, swipe to the right until you see the play controls for music, right next to it is the icon for the screen orientation lock. Tap on it to unlock the screen again, your icon in the right corner will be gone.
tap on the home button to close the multitask bar again.
Troubleshooting Rotation Lock
If your iPad display does not rotate as expected, verify that Rotation Lock is off:
Check the status bar for the Rotation Lock icon.
Toggle the Side Switch to verify that the device is not locked.
Note: Some apps do not rotate to match the current or locked orientation. Use the Home screen to determine Rotation Lock status.
If Rotation Lock is off and you are still unable to rotate the iPad display, restart your iPad:
Hold the Sleep/Wake button until "slide to power off" appears, and then slide to turn off your device. When it is off, press the Sleep/Wake button to turn it back on.

  • My ipad is stuck in landscape mode, can I disable accelerometer and manually rotate?

My iPad is just over 1 year old and has been treated well, but unfortunately it is now stuck in landscape mode.  We went to the Genius Bar today and after testing it they said it is a problem with the accelerometer and not fixable, only replaceable.  Unfortunately, we bought it in the UK and are just out of warranty, and are now in Australia (apparently if we bought it here we'd be covered for around 2 years under their consumer laws).  This means we are now stuck with a fairly new but broken product, which is a shame because we are both still using our iPhone 3GS phones from about 5 years ago with no problems!
Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the accelerometer and manually switch between portrait and landscape?

I had the same problem with my iPad Air that was brand new. After about 30 minutes on the phone with Apple Support (who are always so nice)it still wasn't resolved. We had come to the point where the last solution would have been to revert it to factory settings or send it back. Luckily I had to download the latest version of iTunes, and scheduled a call back. I have a Smart Cover for my iPad and began to wonder if the magnet had somehow caused the gyroscope to jam (since it does snap on back directly where the gyroscope is located). While running the Gyroscope app I took the corner where it snaps and ran it along the edge where the power and volume rockers are, and wellah!!! The gyroscope immediately responded and was back to working perfectly. Won't be using my Smart Cover anymore  though.

To permanently delete, touch Mailboxes, uppper left corner of left sidebar, then the Account and Trash, then Touch Edit upper right of left sidebar, then Delete All lower left, and confirm and they are permanently gone.

  • IPad mini stuck in landscape mode.

I've tried all the usual fixes such as rotational lock (both with side switch and soft switch on screen), closing apps and rebooting. It is still stuck in landscape in all apps. Help!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Do a reset of the iPad. Hold Sleep and Home buttons until the iPad restarts. This will close all the apps, so put the iPad in vertical and see what happens.
If it doesn't work, make an iCloud or iTunes backup and go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings, so everything will be deleted and you will have to set up the iPad again. If this doesn't work, take your iPad to an Apple Store

If you cannot login you will have to go back to single user mode in order to reset a password.
    Follow the instructions here:
    http://www.macyourself.com/2011/08/20/how-to-reset-password-for-mac-os-x-10-7-li on/
    excerpt:
Shut down your Mac and turn it back on while holding down the Command and S keys at the same time until your see a black screen with white text. This is known as Single User mode.
You can skip this step, but it’s recommended that you don’t because it will check the consistency of your hard drive. At the prompt, type fsck -fy and press Enter.
Once the disk check is complete and the prompt returns, type mount -uw / and press Enter.
Type launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.opendirectoryd.plistand press Enter.
Type ls /Users and press Enter. All of the usernames on the computer will be listed, which is helpful if you don’t know or remember what these are.
Type dscl . passwd /Users/username password while replacing username with one of the users displayed in the previous step and replacing password with the new password of your choice. Press Enter. You will likely get an error message about a file or directory not being found – it’s safe to ignore this.
    Type reboot and press Enter.

  • Ipod 5th generation stuck in headphone mode how can you get the ipod out of headphone mode?

    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Unless covered by warranty,
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • I'm stuck in proxy mode, how can I get out?

I seem to be be stuck in proxy mode. Even with a new library and a new clip, it shows a 'missing proxy' label. I can't switch to 'optimized/original media'. FCPX simply doesn't do it. I already tried trashing prefs and reinstalling FCPX. please help?
    Arnoud Kwant
    The Netherlands

What exactly happens when you try to switch by selecting Original/Optimized as in Alchroma's image? Does it still show Proxy as selected?
You may also try Window->Revert to Original Layout.
If reinstalling, it is recommended that you use FCS Remover to make sure that all traces of the application are deleted. And then you'd need to download a fresh copy from the App Store, and also download the additional content from inside the application.
It stays on Proxy. That is the issue.
Revert to original layout didn't help.
I uninstalled using AppCleaner. I deleted all files (except the 1Gb of additional content)
(BTW thanks for Luis and Alchroma for trying to help)

  • HT1414 1phone 4s stuck in recovery mode how do i get it out

hi can anyone help ive got a 1phone 4s stuck in recovery mode can anyone help.

Did you try to restore it via iTunes?

  • IPad 2 stuck in landscape mode since update to iOS5.1, restart doesn't help.

Any suggestions? The problem is definitely related to the update... this pad has been babied (never dropped, etc.), and the issue began immediately after the update. All apps & everything are like this, and the screen never has spun to portrait since. Help!

Is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If so, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
If there isn't a lock symbol then try a reset (or is that what you mean by a restart ?) : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
