My iPad just died...is there a reset switch?

iPad is about a year and a half old.  Never had any problems.  I had been using it all night long and opened the cover.  NOTHING.  Black screen.  Tried the home and hold keys but still nothing.  I know the battery was about 80% charged.  I have tried leaving it on the charger for 8 hours but still nothing.  What is my next step?

Trying that 20 times is futile as you have discovered
Connect to your computer and restore from iTunes
If that doesn't work take it to Apple and ask them to check it out for you

    My iPad just died. The gear symbol came up and then the screen went blank (turned off). It was fully charged so that wan't the issue.

    That is indicating that the device has gone into recovery mode. Press just the Power button until the red Power Off slider appears and slide to turn it off. Then power it back up to see if it has exited Recovery Mode. If it has, then you should be good to go.
    If it has not, then the issue you had that caused the iPad to turn off was one that put your device into Recovery mode requiring that you go through the recovery process (i.e., the reset did not process since the issue required a recovery to resolve). Here is a link that explains what you need to do to get out of Recovery Mode in that case:

  • HT1212 my ipad just died.  When i hook up to my computer on itunes it says cannot connect because it is locked with a passcode.  i know my passcode but nothing is coming on, the screen is just blank and it is was fully charged

    My ipad will not turn on.  It was fully charged before it just died and would not turn back on.  When I hook it up to my computer on itunes it says cannot connect because it is locked with a passcode.  I know my passcode but the screen is just black, no power, so I cannot enter a pass code.

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Hold Sleep/Wake button down and slide to turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTune (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTune and plug.
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTune has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTune.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...

  • My ipad just died.  It was fully charged.  Is it the battery?

    I can't even turn the thing on.  Tried in vain to contact support, but have to pay $29 for a single service question.  According to the warranty, they will only replace a battery with 50% or more power.  Is it worth the $99 service fee or just buy a replacement battery.  Could it be something else?

    Did you try a reset?
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • My ipad just died

    I was using my ipad with about a 75% charge when I sat it down for a minute.  Now it will not respond to anything, the hard reset will not work, itunes will not recognize it and to the best I can tell is just dead.  The charger works fine as my other ipad will charge with it.
    Is my only solution to send it to Apple or find and Apple store?  Seems like it shouldn't be a battery when it was working fine and then a minute later nothing.
    Appreciate any help, but please not a hard reset will not work.

    Try a Restore...
    1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
    2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
    3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

    If this does not help... then take to an Apple Store or AASP and get them to check it for you.

  • Ipad just died.

    So I was watching a video from itunes, when suddenly it decided it wasn't going to work anymore. I've already returned one ipad because of an odd screen issue. If my warrenty has run out by now, will I just have to buy a new one? I'm depressed now.

    You must have taken your iPad to the low charge shutdown previously from your response so you know what that is like. When mine hits that point the shutdown is very fast, little warning except for the nag dialog boxes that keep coming up below 21% charge. Did you get any of those nags before this occured? Have you plugged your iPad into a wall outlet to recharge?
    You may need to do a hard reset: hold both the sleep/poer button and home button until the Apple Logo appears and they unit goes through a restart sequence. If that doesn't work, have you connected to a computer and used iTunes to see what it says about the iPad? If so, what iformation/lack of info did it give?

  • Has anyone had their IPAD just die?

    I picked up my ipad to read a book and it will not turn on. Plugged it in to charge this morning and now it is dead.

    IT's possible that your battery has died. You can make an appointment at your local apple store and have them take a look at it.

  • Hi...my iPad just shut down when in normal use.   It will not switch back on...!   Is there a reset I should try?

    Hi...my iPad judt died whilst working normally...!   I cannot turn it back on...any advice?   Is there a reset I should try?

  • My macbook and time capsule all died within the week.  I can't turn the power on.  any idea?  is there a reset button?

    My time capsule is dead.  When I plug it in, there is no power.
    The macbook just died yesterday before I could get another backup & wifi.  It won't turn the power on any more.  Is there a reset/reboot button hidden somewhere?  Or do I have to bring it in and try to get all my info back?
    Thanks.

    TC die at around 3years.. earlier models generally faster.. so most a dead already.
    There is nothing you can do.. either repair or dispose of it. Apple will not assist unless it is less than 3years old and you have applecare on a computer.
    Even then they will replace with a refurbished of the same model.
    Some of us do not like the throw away model Apple has adopted.. but if it is Gen 1 or even Gen 2 it could be time for update.

    These are seldom worth the expense of repairing. Once they are over 3years.. the cost of parts is a significant percentage of the new items.. the hard drive can be pulled to recover your files. Ask a tech in a repair centre for help doing that.

  • My iPod 5th gen is no longer charging. I've cleaned out lint, switched chargers, and reset the device more times than I can count. I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do to fix it, or if it's a lost cause.

    I've had my iPod touch 5th gen for a little over 2 years now. a few weeks ago, I went to plug my iPod into the charger. After about 20 minutes I went to go get it so I could reply to texts and clear some notifications and I noticed that it was still at 20%. So I tried a different cord, different outlet, cleaned out any lint that might be in there, and reset the iPod more than once. Nothing worked. Eventually the problem corrected itself. But then it happened again a few days later. And then it happened just recently, and now it's happening again. In total it's happened 4 times, the first 3 times its corrected itself, but this time it's not. I'm not sure if there's anything else I can do, or if it's just a lost cause.

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
    Try holding down the sleep and home buttons for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple it's rebooting and just let it do its thing.
  • My iPad 2 just died
    My new iPad 2 (2 months old) just died. I was watching an AirPlay video and 'zap' all went away. Would not start back up. Would not connect (and receive) power from charger. Would not 'link' to computer with USB cable- nada!!
    Went to the forums and found the same issue. One poster suggested a 'hard reset'; power button down with Apple button. Within 15 seconds the iPad woke up........thanks so much for having the forum available with the answers........otherwise I would have had to make a trip to the Apple store; 6 hours aways and that would have been no fun........
    Thanks again,
    Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
    I only have one video project that I ever published to iDisk. It didn't have any music or photo files attatched to it, just a few clips stitched together. I can play these clips right now in the Event Library (so I know the source files are on my computer), but strangely, under the Project Library, the project is not there. I'm almost certain that I didn't store the project on iDisk; I just completed the video and published it to iDisk (as a .mov file I think) for family to see. I've tried to figure out how to get iDisk to stop looking for this project to no avail.
    I don't know if others have experienced this, but if I click on any project and on the menu bar select Share --> Remove From --> Media Browser... it lists iPod, iPhone, iPad, tv, Computer and MobileMe. Why would MobileMe be an option here? This is the case for any video project I select. Didn't iLife '11 and/or OSX 10.8 remove all mention of MobileMe? I wonder if this is part of the problem too.
    Edit: I just removed every project I have from the Media Browser. Still no luck.
    I have the 6500A without plus and it is with a LAN cable connected with my Router.
    First make sure you have the latest printer firmware installed.
    Next restart the printer and the Router.
    I had the same. Problem but it went away after rebooting the Router.
