My iPad keeps dropping my WiFi Connection despite indicating otherwise

I have seen threads that indicate problems with WiFi speed after iOS 4.2.1 was released, but my problem isn't with speed exactly.
In brief, my iPad will essentially go to sleep on its WiFi connection regularly, despite showing a 100% WiFi signal at all times. I can correct the problem temporarily by turning the WiFi off and then on again, but this is quickly becoming a nuisance.
Speedwise, the speed is terrific when it's locked in and working. So I don't have the slowness issues some others are reporting. It's just more of an all-or-nothing deal.
Per some threads I read elsewhere, I tried resetting my network on the iPad, but the problem persists.
Are there any known solutions out there? Do we have any indication that Apple is aware of the problem?

I completely understand, my launch day iPad has this very problem from the start and was fixed with iOS 3.2.1, but with the iOS 4.2.1 update the problem is back. The best work-around for me beyond turning wifi off and then on again is to have the access point set to only one 802.11 protocol, B, G, or N.
My iPad will maintain a solid connection for hours while connected to a WAP that is setup to run just one 802.11 protocol not mixed. I've tested this on three different routers, two (b/g) and one (b/g/n), and the results are reproducible. I've contacted Apple Care about this and they are being made aware of a growing problem among iPad users, so a solution should be three months down the road like the last time they fixed the problem. If that isn't something you can work with, it might be best to return the iPad, because it's clearly a minor hardware fault with a minority of iPads as many of the users in these forums will tell you that there isn't any problem with their iPad. Me, I'm willing to give Apple a chance to fix the bug.
You should still call Apple Care about your problem or at least submit a bug report to apple.com/feedback, they do not read these forums, the forums are user driven.

  • My ipad keeps dropping my wifi connection

My ipad mini keeps dropping my wifi connection at home and requires me to enter my password each and every time. This also happens with a new iphone 4S we have as well. We have a total of 4 other iOS devices and this does not happen any of them ever. I have verified across all my devices that they all have the same settings. I have rebooted everything, updated everything (including the routers firmware and even used the restore network settings on the device. All do not prevent the error from happening repeatidly.

You might consider changing the settings on the router or replacing all together

  • My Ipad keeps dropping its wifi connection. This is a wifi only unit... Please help!

IPad dropping WiFi every few seconds after updating iOs to version 5.x
I have the same problem with my iPad 2. It was working fine when my iOS was v.4.3.3. After updating the iOs to version 5.0.1, I kept dropping my WiFi & Internet signal. I am using WPA2, and my SSID is OFF (does not broadcast).
To solve the problem, I updated iOs to v5.1. Same problem occurred. I tried using the OpenDNS as suggested.. Did not work too. WiFi stays on for 5-10 seconds before saying signal was lost. Tried to log on again - iPad replied that I cannot join the network. Tried soft & hard reset, forgetting network settings, resetting all network Setting, etc - still nothing works.
Finally, out of frustration, I turned ON my router's SSID (broadcasting openly). Guess what? My iPad WiFi is working perfectly without any dropped connection.
Please try this quick solution. It may just fix your problems. I realized that this solution may be effective for some iPad users out there.  But there is a chance it may not work with others (I tried almost all suggestions in other forums - ranging from updating the wireless router firmware, using an OpenDNS, doing a soft & hard reset of the iPad, etc. Still, nothing worked for my iPad - except this simple SSID setting). Hopefully, this additional solution might help someone. Good luck :-)

  • Ipad 2 keeps dropping my wifi connection

I just got an iPad 2.  It keeps dropping my wifi connection.  I updated the software to the most recent available: 6.0.1.  I've tried to reset my network connections.  I rebooted my router.  I've restarted my iPad.  I am still having the same issue.  I can connect to the wireless router with my Samsung Galaxy s3, my wife can also connect without any issues with her Samsung Galaxy S3.  My son was able to connect with his Kindle Fire.  But, the iPad 2 is the only one having a problem.  Any suggestions?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • My 2 gen iPad keeps dropping my AirPlay connection with my 2 gen Apple TV. I just updated to iOS 8.1. Before the worked flawlessly. I love AirPlay. Also my iPhone 5s has the exact same issues with 8.1.

My 02 gen iPad keeps dropping the AirPlay connection after several minutes of play. This happened after updating to iOS 8.1. This worked perfectly on my 2 gen Apple TV before the update. It is also doing the same thing on my iPhone 5s. I use AirPlay all the time. Please help.

    Greetings rdobbins01,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that AirPlay is not working as you would expect on either your iPhone or iPad. In this situation, I would suggest reading over and working through the information located in the attached article to help resolve this issue.

  • My ipad 3 keeps dropping the wifi connection when my android tablet, android phone, and laptop have never had any issues.

I just got a verizon ipad and am having wifi connection problems.  It will connect to my wifi but every 5 or 10 minutes it will drop the connection.  The only way to get it back is to go and manually connect to it again in the wifi settings.
Is anyone else having this problem?  My android tablet and phone and laptop do not have this problem.

It appears hundreds are having this problem.  You must not have done a search for this subject before posting.  Try a search for "wifi connection problem on iPad 3" and you'll get lots of information regarding this problem and a few suggestions you can try.

  • Any idea why my iPhone4 keeps dropping its wifi connection?

I have a new iPhone4 (an upgrade for my iPhone 3GS).  It has been set up for the house's wifi and does connect.  The annoying thing for me is that it seems to keep dropping out of wi fi.  Sometimes it recognizes it within seconds of turning on my phone & other times I need to go into settings, shut off wifi, turn it on again and hope it recongnizes the wifi.  I have no problem with my Apple computer, and no one else in the household has this difficulty, some Apple products, others  not.   I find this frustrating because I never had this problem with my older 3GS phone.  I'm sorry I took the $0.99 upgrade to the iPhone 4.  Should have left well enough alone!!!  Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

  • IPad keeps losing its internet connection since updating to OS 8.1?

Since updating to the latest OS my iPad keeps dropping its internet connection. It has to be shut down and restarted then its back on line, but a while later will drop out again. What is wrong, and what can I do to correct it?

Try freeing up some memory by clearing open apps running in the background. Most people don't know this, but if you have a ton of apps running it can cause a few to crash. Double tap the home button to bring up the bottom. Every app down below is running in the background. Hold your finger down on one till they wiggle. Hit the minus button on all of them. It's good to clear this out of stuff your done using.

  • I keep getting the "connect to itunes" screen and have to restore my ipad.  it will also drop the wifi connection every few mintues.  what can be causing this?

I keep getting the "connect to itunes" screen and have to connect to itunes and do a restore on it.  It will not pick up my ipad so I either have to do a restore or restore to new and it will work fine for a day or so except for dropping the wifi connection.  What can be causing this?  I have had this pad since January of this year and have not had any problems until recently.

If you have to keep restoring your iPad with iTunes repeatedly and there is no change after restoring as a new iPad or not from the iPad's backup, your iPad has a major problem - likely a hardware problem. The iPad includes a one year warranty. You can call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • How do I keep my Ipad from dropping its wireless connection?

How do I keep my Ipad from dropping its wireless connection?
Most of the time, my iPad does not maintain a connection to the interenet via my wifi router. My PC laptop has continuous connection, so I know it is not the internet connection.
Is there a way to trouble shoot this? Can I purchase a dedicated IP Address for my Ipad? This is beyond aggrevating since internet activity is the main reason I purchased the pad.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Poet Margo

I would suggest that you give Apple Tech Support a call and go over your settings under WI-FI and General Settings as well as your router settings etc.. There are all sorts of things I could tell you to try but this forum is not the best place to go over all the numerous settings that could be the issue. Just call them and they will walk you through the proper trouble shooting steps.

  • My ipad keeps dropping my home network wifi signal, what is the problem?

My ipad, iphone and apple tv all keep dropping the wifi signal from our wireless router, i have tried two different router and had our isp here to try to fix the problem with no success, what can be done?

I have an IPad 1 that is dropping the connection multiple times a day.  There are multiple other devices in the house; 4 iPhones, pc and dell laptops, an IPad 2, etc. and they never drop.  Could it be that these devices are not intended to last past two years?  I am going to go to a factory reset.

  • My iMac keeps on losing internet connection. Webpages get stuck after a minute or so. If I check the internet connection via diagnostics it seems to work just fine. Others, like the iPad use the same wifi connection and never fail. What can I do?

Running 10.6.8 on Intel dual core iMac, it keeps on losing internet connection. Webpages get stuck after a minute or so. If I check the internet connection via diagnostics it seems to work just fine. Others, like the iPad use the same wifi connection and never fail. What can I do?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Safari Connectivity keeps dropping via Wifi

My new computer keeps dropping my wifi signal while surfing the web. I keep getting the "not connected to the the internet" message, even though my airport signal in the upper right of the screen shows a full signal. Any suggestions?!
Should I have my firewall set to on or off to maximize security?

In his case keep the firewall off.
Do other computers in the house have the same issues?
Open Safari go to the Safari menu option > Reset Safari > Reset... next go to Safari > Empty Cache > Empty.
Open up a Finder window do as follows:
    -Click on your hard drive.
    -Double click on Library
    -Double click on Caches
-Everything inside of Caches toss it in the trash
If that doesn't work then do this:
In finder go to your Home Folder:
    -/library/preferences/com.apple.safari.plist
    -Pull that into the trash
Shut down the computer and then do a SMC reset and PRAM reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If you are still having issues with Safari, uninstall Safari and reinstall with the Mac OS X Install DVD under the optional installation package.
If that doesn't work you have a weak WiFi signal, try power cycling the router. Log into the router and make sure it is broadcasting as Wireless N and not G. Also make sure the power is on high for the router.
