My mac desktop will not provide sound from internal speakers.  When I go to audio devices window it only shows airplay.  How can I get internal speakers back.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • No sound through internal speakers on HP Pavillion G6

I can get sound through my headphones plugged in through a USB slot but only intermittent sound from the internal speakers. Using Windows 7 home. Thanks!

    Hello!
I had huge problems with my soundblaster sound card in windows7 64bit. Everyone had problems with their products in -64 bit operating system. Do You have windows 7-64 bit sound driver from manufacturer?
There seemed to be very problematic to run the best sound cards on windows 7-64 bit system and those card that work where of porer sound quality. So i had chose to go back to vista or take out my hifi wireles sound card and go with poor soundcard included in the laptop.  (i refused to go back to vista so the extra sound card  (pcmia hifi wireless soundblaster) i gave to my brother)
This whas when windows 7 was RC so maybe now everything ok?
I dont know if this problem still existwith sound cards and windows7-64 bit. Did Your system come with win-64 installed or have  you installed it by yourself?
I should also advice you to uninstall all audio hardware and software on computer, then reboot and install sound drivers and software again. If that not work then maybe something is broken :/
    Hope i helped a bit!
    Have a nice day =)
    B.regards

  • System sounds through internal speakers but other audio through USB Soundcard

    Hi there,
I am having a bit of an odd problem. I have a USB sound card and when using it plugged directly into my Macbook Pro retina's USB slot all audio comes through the sound card however when using the sound card connected to a USB hub almost all sounds except for system sound come through the speakers (e.g. deleting a file in finder noise comes out the internal speakers or sending an email sound etc.). Does anyone have any ideas on how to get all the audio to come through the sound card or as to why this is happening?
I have checked system preferences and it says USB Audio Device is the output. I have tried changing it to internal speakers and back again but this hasn't fixed the issue.
    Thanks
    Ben

Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup; select the desired output device and click on the gear icon at the bottom, select 'Play alerts and sound effects through this device'.

  • No sound through internal speakers

I'm looking for a little advice.  I have an HP G60-442 running Windows 7 64 bit.  Last week my internal speakers stopped working and the HDMI playback device is no longer an option.  My headphone jack still works though.  All audio/video drivers are up to date and the HDMI option is present under the device manager.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Bump
As this seem to be a new problem affecting many users any and all advice/solutions would be greatly appreciated.
I've gone so far as to do a system restore from a restore point over a month ago.  My next step will be a recovery - not something I want to do
    Thanks

Amazing! I'm a dance instructor and am doing the exact same thing as you - and not seeing what I need on my iPad Air ... I can't believe there has been no reply on this! I also can't believe there isn't an easy way of seeing track info in the iPad or iPhone but I've spent hours searching and am not finding anything

  • Sound from internal speakers on iMac not working

I've been having a recurring problem where the internal speakers constantly lose connection. When I go to sound preferences, the internal speakers disappear from the device list in the output tab. I've also noticed that plugging in my own headphones does not solve the problem, sound is still lost and regained.  I have no idea what is causing this. I am currently working on the current software(Version10.9.4).

Here is one that worked for another user it may work for you

Re: internal speakers no soundin response to noondaywitch | This solved my question
Here's what worked for me. It's not a workaround, this acutally solved the problem and I haven't had speaker issues since.
Go to "Activity Monitor" (you can hold "Command" "Shift" and press "U" if you're on the desktop).
    Locate "coreaudiod" under "All Processes"
Right click it and click on "Quit"
After several seconds, "coreaudiod" will restart on it's own and your speakers will return to normal.
I tested this by restarting to see if it was a fluke workaround. Then I turned it off and waited a day (I had things to do so the waiting a day was easy lol). Turned it on, it was fine. I put it on sleep mode, waited 10 mins. and took i off of sleep mode. It was fine. Everything went back to normal for me.
Let me know if this worked for you.
    Good Luck and Cheers

  • No sound through external speakers on my iphone 4s but headphones work fine! When headphones unplugged volume button shows headphones not plugged in! Tried all solutions suggested here to no luck?!??

No sound through external speakers but fine through headphones! Button on left is not on mute and checked all settings and all fine! Tried all solutions here but no luck! Sound gone before I updated the software??

You may have debris in your headphone jack blocking the sensor.  Try blowing hard on the jack, and inserting/removing your headphones quickly multiple times to clear it.

  • No sound from internal speakers in HP Mini

i can't hear any sound from internal speakers although if i connect headphones or external speakers i can hear sound!

    Hello  @Landon3400 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your notebook only has sound, through your headphones.
Try updating the driver with the following download and tell me if it resolves the issue: IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver.
Furthermore, check out this thread that has a lot of great suggestions for issues with no sound: Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time and this document for no sound in Windows 8: No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8)
It would help to know which product and operating system you are using.

  • No sound with internal speakers

My HP dv1660se P/N et732ua laptop does not have internal speakers working?  Head set works but not with DVDs, no sound at all.  I just installed Windows 7 32 bit.

    Hi Kubotaboyz,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The Lenovo K450e does not come with an internal speakers.
All Lenovo Tower PC does not have an internal Speaker and you must connect one either through the back Audio port or at the front on some units.
You can check this K4 Model series Maintenance Manual to verify that the unit does not include speakers internally.
    Hope this helps

  • Very poor sound from internal speakers, very good on headphones.

    Hi,
I hope you can give some advice.
New to all this so apologies if protocols are broken etc
    New 20" imac, running Leopard.
very thin, tinny sound from internal speakers (similar to hearing someone's else's walkman
on the train). when I plug headphones in its great no probs.
Advice please! I don't want to send it back I'm halfway through my assignment.
    Hadders

I just realized I've never heard the internal speakers on my new iMac, I have always used good 2.1 speakers since I got my eMac years ago and the internals really sucked.
I was just curious, have you heard anybody elses built in iMac speakers and did they sound better than yours or the same? Maybe at the Apple Store?
I don't know, I just didn't know if they really improved them. Maybe other iMac users can chime in on internal speaker quality. The only reason I said all this was because you mentioned that headphones sound great, which is the same port that a set of external speakers would go.
Sorry to hear you had to send it back for that. Here's hoping you didn't have to send it in for what the speakers really do sound like.

    Hi,
The functionality of the mute button is provided by the IDT Audio software so the problem may be that Windows 8 has installed a reference driver that does not contain this.  Often, the Windows 7 version works Ok, so I'd try downloading and installing the following IDT driver.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48501-49000/sp48830.exe
After the installation has completed, restart the notebook.

  • No sound on internal speakers but OK on external ones G4 15" 1.75 Ghz

I have no start-up chime or no sound from internal speakers, but do have sound when I plug in an external speaker. Is there a sound board in this unit, or is it a logic board problem? Also have the no wake-up after sleep issue, and have to remove all power - have read about 127 posts on this, and one consensus seems to be that removing the trackpad sensor will solve that problem. Does that not have any effect on the operation of the powerbook, and if not, why is there a trackpad sensor in the first place?

It is good that external speakers work. It effectively narrows down the problem to the switching contacts in the headphone jack, as other faults are very rare. I would insert a plug in and out of the headphone jack many times and wiggle it.
I have no experience with the failure to wake problem.

  • Some apps won't play sound through iPad2 speakers

I've noticed since updating to iOS 5 and 5.0.1, I've got more apps that won't play sound through ipad2 speakers, but will play sound through earphones though.  Using the same app on the iphone plays sound through the iphone speakers as normal.
It seems to be picky with which apps it does this to as Sky News/BBCiplayer/YouTube/Video/ IMDb all play sound through ipad speakers. Apps like FilmOn plus/ FreeAppMagic/ Falling Gems/ Bejeweled2/ FNS Shift2 will only play sound through earphones.  These Apps updating to the new iOS doesn't fix the sound issue either.
I can use an app that plays sound through iPad speakers, then use an app that doesn't play sound through the speakers, then use another app that does play sound through speakers, so the earphone connection actuator doesn't look like the problem to me.  Maybe some sound drivers may have been lost or deleted with new iOS updates over wifi...?
    Any help would be appreciated.

See if perhaps this is the reason why some apps aren't playing sound.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.
