My iPad socket?

I have tried charging and syncing my iPad (#1 generation) but it has suddenly stopped being able to connect. I have tried four different cables, two different wall chargers and a PC and it's just not seeing or charging. How do I check if it's just a hardware issue with my socket on my iPad (boo hoo) or some sort of software problem? It charged ok on Monday in Norway but wouldn't sync yesterday in UK or charge today. I did a software update after the no sync problem to see if that would resolve it but it hasn't.
Only have 4% of battery left now so can't try too many different remedies.......

you did say you were out of warranty? As in more than a year old? My port died when it was a couple of months old. So that may be an issue.
I replilcated the problem with 3 different computer, 2 different chargers and an assortment of different cables. and even when I took it into Best Buy, of course, they had to replicate it as well - not an issue and expected.
You can try resetting it if you haven't already. Hold down the home and sleep keys, past when you see the red power down slider, and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and see if anything changes.
Also, even though mine said 'not charging' it did charge when plugged into the mains....just very slowly. So you can try that, plug it in for a few hours, in sleep mode, and see if you gain any battery power. Might keep you going until your appointment.
You can also try inspecting the connection. I know it's hard to see but if you have access to a can or air or the such, see if any debris has gotten in there that might be impeeding the connection. Don't go digging in there obviously, because if you scratch the contacts that can be held against you when they decide if it's defective or damaged, but something like blowing it out could clear away any bad stuff that could be your issue.

It will only remove correctly if a very well manicured fingernail is inserted between the iPad socket and the cable connection. It pulls apart between the bronze and the white cover.

Perhaps the problem is with the Lightning connector on your iPad and not the cables. Make a Genius Bar appointment and take both items in and have them both looked at. I've not broken any cables on my 7th Gen Nano or my iPhone 5.

Hi, I have Logitech mm50 portable speakers for my iPod touch, and am wondering if I can also connect my iPad to them. Since the IPod touch actually sits on the dock mount, which the iPad obviously can't do, I was wondering if there is a suitable cable.

My daughter has a pair of Blockbox headphones and as I was trying them out, I realised that the-detachable - cable fitted the headphone sockets on both the iPad and Logitech speaker unit.
I connected them, and was able to hear music from the ipad through the speakers.
Would this solution ( from headphone to headphone output ) be of less audio quality than attaching a cable from the 30-pin iPad socket to the Logitech headphone output ?

Not sure from your question how you are trying to charge your iPad. Many users try to charge by connecting the iPad to a USB port on a computer. The best way to charge your iPad is to use the charger that came with it and plug that into a known good wall outlet.
If you are using the charger plugged into the wall and the device is not charging you should
First thing to try is a reboot of your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
Then make absolutely sure the wall outlet is good. If the iPad still won't charge the problem lies in one or more of following:
Charger is faulty.
Cable is faulty.
iPad socket is faulty.
Charging circuit in iPad is faulty.
If you now someone with an iPad ( doesn't matter which model) you can try their charger to eliminate that.
Borrow someone else's lightning cable to eliminate that.
If still no joy, make an appointment at an Apple store to have them look at your iPad, cable, charger, etc.

This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.

What content are you wanting to copy of the iPad ? You should be able to copy off anything that you've purchased from Apple (films, music, ibooks, apps etc) by connecting the iPad to your computer's iTunes and doing File > Transfer Purchases. If you want to copy off music copied from your own CDs or purchased from other sites then you will need to find a program for your computer that can copy them off – iTunes won't copy them off.
For photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit or saved from emails/websites then you should be able to copy them off via the Windows camera wizard.
For photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.
Content in third-party apps (documents and files etc) then how you copy that content off will depend upon what the apps that they are in support e.g.either via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.

Since I updated to 5.0.1 on my iPad2 my Apogee One no longer works correctly. I get loud pops and crackles and my monitoring has changed completely. I can no longer monitor through the Ipad headphone socket

On previous ioS Garageband worked perfectly. The crackles now make it impossible to record with an external mic or with the built-in mic on the One. I used to be able to monitor via headphones plugged into the ipad headphone socket. Now when I plug the Apogee one into the iPad camera port I get sound for 1-2 secs and then nothing. The only way I can monitor then is through the Apogee One headaphone connection but it is loud and distorted.

Minor update: I have multiple PC's in my office. This same iPad and other apple devices properly work and sync with their connection to this other computer. Both computers are running the 64bit iTunes and both have Windows 7 64bit OS running on both machines. I tried deactivating firewalls and even deleted the iTunes with a fresh installation with no avail.

No. She will need to come up with an alternative way to connect. A mobile hotspot perhaps.
Finding some way to connect to these hotspots would be the ideal situation. I know that you realize that. We know nothing about what is happening, but if you can explain in some detail, maybe somebody here can help.

It is normal for me to plug it in overnight and to see no charge whatsoever the next day. I have never had so much trouble using a friggin charger in my life. It just seems to be exceedingly finicky. Charging your iPad should not be problematic. It should be an easy thing to do using the charger provided with your iPad connected to a known good wall outlet.
The charging problem you are experiencing is most like caused by:
1. A faulty charger
2. A faulty cable
3. A bad wall outlet
4. A problem in the iPad.
The first three of these are easiest to eliminate. Try a for ends charger and cable. Make absolutely sure your outlet is good. Try other outlets.
If the charger, cable and outlet a proven to be good then the problem lies in the iPad.
Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

Go to System Preferences>Sound>Output and make sure that you selected the right output. I think if yo use HDMI you might not be abe to select another output.

Please note it did say at the store's discretion, but people have actually been able to return it to the on-line store. (I only saw a couple who tried.)
And given the outcry, I would think Apple might have other Apple stores join in. Just in case, though, if you can, you might bring it in today.
If it's an ARS, my guess is they can stick to their 14 day return. Apple cannot force them to do it. SO if it's not bought directly from Apple, and it's past the 14 day deal, I'd bring it in to the store today if you have one. When I gave people the cnet.com site, I gave it so people could read it and know only Apple had made the decision for Apple. And I suggested to some that an Apple reseller would probably stick with their own return policy.
Because Arnie had just bought his, he should be able to return it to Apple or an ARS because an ARS has to have some kind of full refund or at least return for credit within 7 or 14 days of purchase.

When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

IPad 3rd gen not charging via wall socket

Ok I'm really annoyed right now, my iPad 3rd gen has suddenly decided not to charge when plugged via adapter to the wall socket. I thought it was the cables fault so I went into the currys store and bought an apple charger, came home and I have the same problem. When I plug my iPad to the wire to charge the battery sign flashes between between charging and not charging and then I get a message saying maybe this device is not compatible with the iPad and now I just keep getting the message saying "not charging". So I plugged the wire to my MacBook and yay the iPad charges, but its a little bit inconvinient for me and I prefer charging via the wall socket. I've tried everything resetting etc I've even done the software update (ios7.1). Can someone please tell me what's going on, am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated! Oh I've also ordered the apple 12w adaptor charger, do you think this will solve the problem? Thank you

You, say, " I thought it was the cables fault", but then you say, "I went into the currys store and bought an apple charger". Did you buy a charger or a cable?
The problem could be the charger. If so, the new 12W charger should solve the problem.
