My iPad will not switch on or reset

My iPad was sitting with a 75% charge in standby mode. When I opened the cover it did not restart.
It did not start with the round button and slide nor by pressing the start/stop bar on the side.
Following advice on the Apple set I reset by pressing the two buttons for over 10 seconds, but no joy.
Does anyone have other suggestions?

My ipad is the first edition, it refuses to switch on, its fully charged. I can't access the serial number to tell the apple expert who I spoke to and I am still waiting for a call back. Has it died noting its nearly 4 years old now? I hope not. Can anyone advise?

I plugged the iPad in to charge last night before going to bed. The battery had reached the 10% or less level of charge. When I plugged it in to the iPad charge adapter, it beeped and showed that it was charging. However, in the morning, it would not turn on.
I have tried the reset: hold the power/sleep button and the home button until the Apple logo appers, but this did not work.
I tried plugging it into my 2010 Macbook Pro 15", and that did not help. iTunes does not see the iPad.
What else can I do?

If this problem persists - meaning that the device not respond and it is not recognized in iTunes - you can try restoring the device. You will need to force it into recovery mode if the device is not being recognized by iTunes.

IPad will not switch to "sync to this computer" it keeps jumping back to icloud option

So I got a new iPad3 toady and I am trying to do a sync on my iPad2 to get all my most recent stuff into my PC then sync my new pad to move all the data over. Then I will restore the iPad2 and give it to the wife.
However iTunes has given a "too big for the cloud" error in the past so I know the most recent backup isnt done. But when I click on "Back up to this computer" and then try and apply changes the stupid thing defaults back to "Back up to iCloud" by itself. What could be wrong here ???

I don't fully understand what the System Reset does but I've found that it cures many ills. It's easy, quick and harmless:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default.
Also, you might wish to download the iPad-2 User Guide. Pay special attention to page 162. Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

Have you tried a soft-reset to see if that gets the iPad to turn on and/or to charge ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo will hopefully appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. My iphone 4s wont switch on or reset. i spoke to apple earier and they will replace the phone under warranty. i didnt back up my phone on itunes or icloud. as the phone will not switch on i am unable to do this now. any ideas how i can get these off?

My iphone 4s will not switch on. Supposidly it has been "charging" all day and stll it does not have enough life to switch on. Rang Apple this morning and they will replace the phone under warrenty free of charge. Only problem is with this being my first Apple product i didnt realise my phone did not automatically back up on itunes or icloud as i had to set this up.
Now i am trying desperately to get my phone to switch on so that i can save all of the baby pictures of my 7 month old son and its not working. i have tried to reset the phone but it does nothing!!

You cannot get Applecare plus now.
It is unlikely that they will replace as it is damaged. The only way to find out is to make an appointment at the genius and and see what they say.

I have the same issue on my Ipad Air. Screen will not rotate, I have reset the settings, still only displays in the portrait mode. A couple of interesting things though. a couple of days before it completely locked up into portrait I would have to turn the ipad off and hold it in the orientation I wanted because it would not change orientation after I was in an app.
Also, I just played a Netflix video and it was in landscape mode.
Any ideas?
