My ipad will not turn on; just a black screen with the apple symbol on it.

My nephew was on my IPad then I just frozed on him.  So he tried to reset it but it only shows a black screen and the apple symbol on the front.  The screen has been going off and on, like if it's trying to reset???  Is this a typical problem with the Ipad?  Can the ipad get virus'?

Before taking your iPad to your Apple Store, reboot it:  To reboot, hold the power and home buttons at the same time for at least 10 seconds (keep holding past the swipe to shut down bar if it appears) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will reset.  If that doesn't solve your problem, the next step would be connect to iTunes and restore your iPad.  If that fails, THEN you take it to Apple.
