My iPad won't hold a charge ---any ideas?
My iPad won't hold a charge. It even loses battery while it is on the charge. Any ideas???
Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight. Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A." The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC. Do NOT use an iPhone charger. Do NOT use an iPod charger. Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear). An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem. I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
According to Apple:
Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

Hello I went to wipe my 1st generation iPad and then tried to update the iOS now the iPad won't work at all any ideas what I can do?
You can't update the original iPad beyond iOS 5.1.1 so if you were already running that version, there was no reason to wipe the iPad to try to update.
Won't work at all, doesn't tell me the whole story. Does it power up but not respond to anything? Does it not power up at all? Some detailed information in context would really be helpful.
IF the device will not start up, try a reset. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple Logo appears on the screen. -

You replaced the battery yourself or Apple did it?
If you did it, you messed something up.
If Apple did it, take it back. -
My email was a white blank screen on my ipad. Thinking I needed a software update, I tried to shut it off. Now all I have is a black screen and the "working" logo in the center, but it won't shut off.
Any ideas? When you reset the iPad, wait until the Apple logo appears on the screen before you let go of the buttons.
Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -

TS3274 My ipad won't hold a charge for very long.
Just recently my ipad quit holding a charge. What used to last me all day has turned into only a couple of hours. Is there a setting or something I can change to regain the charge I once had. My I pad is only a couple of months old.
Try turning off the following:
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Push>OFF
Settings>Notifications>Mail>Gmail>Notification Center>OFF
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Fetch New Data>Off -

My iPad 2 is 4 years and 2 mos. old. I have noticed lately that it won't hold a charge. Is it time for a new one?
Batteries eventually fail, and it sounds like that's happened with your iPad. You'll need to take or send it Apple to get the battery replaced. See:

My ipad(2) is plugged into my pc but won't charge-any ideas?
my ipad2 is plugged in but won't charge-any ideas--only 2 weeks old
Your PCs USB port is probably not capable of providing enough power to charge your iPad. It might be charging at a very slow rate and when your iPad is in sleep mode. Use the adapter provided with your iPad.

iPad won't hold charge
A bit more explanation would be good. That's about the same as phoning your garage and saying "my car doesn't go".

my iPad 1 won't hold a charge for very long and will only fully charge when turned off while plugged in. Will a full reset fix this?
maybe but
most likely no
if you have many apps running and using data and localization at the same time yes maybe
but batteries get worse and worse and worse over time until they die a software reset will not change that -
