My Ipad won't open display PDF files.

When I open PDFs on the internet, I just get a gray screen.  I then try to open the PDF in iBooks, but that is unresponsive as well.  I do not think that I have downloaded any applications that would cause this problem.
Thank you for your help.

Some PDFs can be slow to open and a grey screen will appear whilst waiting, and they have to be opened on the website before opening in iBooks.

  • Adober Reader suddenly won't open any PDF files (Mac)

I had an old version, I downloaded the latest one, upgraded to the newest, even tried taking that one out and downloading an older version. It doesn't matter which version I seem to have, it won't open any pdf files from the web.
I use a Mac, and Safari. It used to always load PDF files fine, one random place said I had to update it so I did and since then, lately it'd crash and close all Safari windows when loading a PDF or trying to copy something from a PDF. The smart Mac message I have says it could be related to an Adobe Plug in. However, now it won't even load PDF files at all, it always goes to a white page. Nothing happens.
What do I do?? I can't even save the PDF's as individual files and view then in Preview as an alternative option. It's a link online and normally would work. What happened??
    HELP!
    I have a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8
I've always used Safari, it's Version 5.0.5 (5533.21.1 if that means anything).
Acrobat Reader, currently an old version 9.4.0 download. BUT, I had also the 10.0.1 version which also doesn't work. When I had that 10.0.1 version and checked for updates, there was an update (.3 I think?) and I did that and that also doesn't work!
Why did it suddenly stop working?
What can I do to fix it ASAP?
Only with 9.4.0 version I can go to Help and "Repair Adobe Reader Installation" - I click that and the only box I can select is "Adobe PDFViewer Safari Plugin - View, fill-in and collaborate on Adobe PDFs within Safari"  - I click continue and it tells me there's "No missing components detected. Repairs are not needed." The only option is to click "OK".
With any newer version of Adobe Reader, under Help there is no option to "Repair Adobe Reader Installation". So... I can't even try that with a new version.
I am at a loss for solutions. Hope someone here can help! Thanks!

There are several things you can do. My first step would be to repair permissions. If that doesn't work log on as a different user. If all works properly then you have a corrupt preference file (most likely) or a corrupt user font installed in your user Library (less likely). If that doesn't work download Applejack. Have it repair the disk, remove all system caches and user caches. Then have it check all system and user preference files. Remove any preference files that are corrupt. Reboot and see if your system is working properly.

  • Reader 10.1.1 won't open internet PDF files

I downloaded and installed the free Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.1.1  I am unable to open any PDF files online.  When I click on a PDF file link I get this message:
There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (103:103)
It is not open and I only use it when I have to open a file that is online.  I deleted and reinstalled and still have the same problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    My system:
    Dell Dimension desktop computer
Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3
    DSL internet connection

Have the same problem and, while not a total solution, offer a work-around that might help you temporarily.
And, yes, I'm running XP SP3 as well, so.....
1.) Find the folder where the Reader X lives (on my system - /Windows/Program Files/Adobe/Reader 10.0/Reader).
2.) Locate AcroRd32 - the file with the Adobe icon.
3.) Right click and go to Properties.
    4.) Set Campatibility to *Windows2000*
Reply "OK" to everything and try opening your file(s) again......
Now, you'll still get the Error message initially, and intermittantly, but the PDF window won't close; you can read the document and saving the file still works.
Again, it's not a fix, kinda cludgy, but it got me back on track even tho the message popping up is an annoyance.
Maybe Adobe will fix it as I've seen several folks here with similar experiences.

  • Program won't open most pdf files. Also shuts down internet explorer.  How do I solve this problem?

I installed the trial version of Acrobat XI Pro.  When I tried to open various pdf files they wouldn't open.  Clicking to open the files also caused internet explorer to close.  Any help?

  • My macbook won't open firefox pdf files

About a week ago, my macbook quit opening internet pdf files.  I checked for new software updates but it hasen't worked.  Please help!!!  No error message shows up, just a blank screen.

    Hi...
    Quit Firefox.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen, click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go
Move the Adobe PDF browser plugin (or just PDF browser plugin) from the Internet Plug-Ins folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Firefox. See if that worked...

  • IBooks won't open my PDF files after I did a sync on computer.

I have an IPod Touch 4th generation. My IBooks won't open any of my PDF files after I did a sync on computer. I have updated all software, reset iPod from a previous backup, re sync with itunes on computer, and I have reset all settings, it still won't work. Any suggestions??

Please close all apps from multitasking.
Download the iPad manual from here http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1595/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf
That should be a known good file from Apple. See if you can open that in iBooks.
If you can open the manual the other PDF files are unreadable/corrupt.
If you are unable to open the manual the issue is with iBooks. Delete iBooks and reinstall the app. Make sure you have  backup of your pdf files first.

  • Ibooks won't open my pdf files

When i try to open pdf files from my browser ibooks starts to open them but the file blinks and disappears. I have to close the app and do this process again for about three times for the pdf to open. I have a lot of pdf files in my bookshelf and i am constantly adding new ones as i take classes. It bothers me to have to try so many times to open one when I have tons more to open.

Please close all apps from multitasking.

  • Acrobat Pro won't open a PDF file.

I know this isn't a Mac question but I've been to Adobe and they are no help. I have PDF files that were created by Acrobat Pro that will not open when I click on the file icon yet, if I open the Acrobat program it will open the file. This is annoying. Has any one experienced this and is there a solution?

Thanks, your response helped. I knew Preview was the default for PDF files but I had changed that (using Get Info) but I failed to notice two important items. (1) The "Change All" button and (2) the "lock icon down in the lower right part of the window. Once I reselected Acrobat as the "opening" program, selected "Change All", AND unlocked the window so that changes would be incorporated, and OH, I even threw in a restart, everything works as expected. Picky, Picky, Picky.
    Thanks again.

  • Ipad Dropbox app cannot open some pdf files

my Ipad Dropbox app cannot open some pdf files. The blue download bar appears and when download is complete, the wheel spins and spins and nothing happens.
Some files are password protected. until recently, the password window would open. Now it does not. The wheel just spins and spins and the file does not open.
AN email attachment (pdf) which I opened in Dropbox on my iPhone opens fine.  Files saved in Dropbox from my desktop won't open. This is true for pdf and MSWord files.
    I'm running iOS 7.1.2 (11D257)

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
Should that fail, you might delete and reinstall the app.

  • How to display Pdf file in iPad site

    Hi
How to display Pdf file in web page which can able to view in iPad safari?
    Thanks,
    Arun

    You can't really.
You need to use DHTML in the swf-wrapper HTML file, usually a
division wrapped iFrame, and load the PDF into the iFrame as an
    overlay to the Flash.

Running Windows 7 and have had no trouble with PDF files until few weeks ago.  Now Adobe Reader Xi won't execute and I can't download or open existing PDF files using Adobe.  Interesting that I can open existing PDF files unsit PaintShop Pro X4 but not in Adobe.  Have unistalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader XI several times with no change in problem.

You can try using Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
