  • Ipad won't update past IOS 4.2

When iPad (first gen.) is hooked up to itunes and try to update it says IOS 4.2 is the current version. When we try to restore ipad, we get 'there was a problem downloading the software for the ipad.  The requested resource was not found.'  Running the latest itunes and Lion.  Have tried the ipad on two different macs with same results.  Pretty well stuck.  Please help!

It just says that it has the most up-to-date software.  From what I can tell, when they originally released the 3rd generation iPod Touch, the 16 gb one still used the 2nd generation hardware.  At the time, it was still called 3rd generation.  As recently as last summer when iOS 4 was released, it was still refered to as 3rd generation (the iOS 4 release information had asterisks on the 3rd gen iPod Touch to say that various features like multitasking wouldn't work with the 16 gb model).  Now Apple seems to have retroactively decided to just call it 2nd generation.  I'm not very happy since it was sold to me as 3rd generation...

  • TS3274 iPad won't update apps...

I'm having trouble with my iPad - Won't update Apps...

Many people are having this problem for the last couple of days. This is a problem that Apple has to fix. If you look around the forum, you will see many, many discusssions about this and they have been going on for a few days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this is a workaround - for the time being.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
    1. Go to App Store
    2. Select Purchased
    3. Select All
    4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
    5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store.

  • My iPod 3rd gen won't update past 4.2.1

As stated, my 3rd gen iPod won't update past 4.2.1, is this the cap for iOS on 3rd gen, or can it go higher?

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
    Identifying iPod models
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

  • TS3694 My iPad won't update software saying it can 't connect to the Internet which is not true as you can see from me being able to write this. there is no error code. It just says unable to verify, try again later. Any suggestions?

My iPad won't update iOS 7.0.4 software saying it is unable to verify because it can 't connect to the Internet and to try again later.  It doesn't display an error message number. Obviously I can connect otherwise you wouldn't be reading this. Any suggestions? Many thanks for your help.

You didn't specify which way you are trying to update - using the Software Update setting on the iPad or by using iTunes. I will assume that you are using iTunes because the kb article that linkd you to here was the one about iTunes error codes.
Quit iTunes, reset your iPad, restart your computer and try again. Disable your firewall and antivirus software of you are using it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    Hello jwludwick,
Does the screen on your iPad look like this?
If so, that indicates your iPad is in recovery mode and needs to be restored using iTunes.  Please follow the article below for further steps.

  • Ipad won't load past apple screen

My Ipad won't load or shut down.  When the cover is opened the screen w/apple is there..desktop sometimes comes on, but as soon as screen is touched it returns to apple screen. I backed up the ipad with itunes on computer and attempted to restore it but it  won't
restore until "find my ipad" is turned off, which I can't do since the ipad won't load the settings.
Updated to ios7 two days ago and was working okay.  I'm not sure if this has something to do with the update.

    Have you tried rebooting?
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Ipad won't update apps

Thought I'd post this in case anyone else is running into the same issue...
My iPad kept showing that there were lots of Apps to update (72 in my case!).  I used the Update All in the App Store, but my iPad never finished updating despite waiting hours and even days later it still wasn't updated.  Worse was that all the Apps that iOS was trying to update showing an empty progress bar on the App icon (instead of the blue progress bar through the app as it updates).
The word "INSTALLING" was greyed out on all the items in the App Store Updates section.  Ugh, what to do?  Didn't want to do a restore and lose all the data.
Here's the slow but sure way to fix this issue (hit like if it works to keep this post active for others):
    - Goto the "App Store" and Choose the "Updates" tab.  Look at how many apps need updating and write down which apps have the greyed out "INSTALLING" .  DO NOT HIT UPDATE ALL, this will only add more backed up apps to the update queue.
    - Hit your Apple Home button to go back to the main App screens.  Start with the first of page of Apps on you iPad.  Look for any App icon that has an empty progress bar in it, and double click it to interrupt the update.  The iPad should pause for a second before delivering a message that the update was not applied and then show the original icon of the App.  If you get a WHITE blank icon it means the App has been corrupted and you'll need to hold down on the icon until the little X shows up to delete the App (write down the name so you can go back to the App store and install it again).  You'll need to go through the entire list until you've stopped the update process of all apps.
    - Go back to the App Store and into the Update section and verify each App has a normal selecrtable "UPDATE" button available.  DO NOT HIT THE "UPDATE ALL" button in the upper left corner or you'll just recreate the problem again.  One by one hit the UPDATE button next to the App that needs updating.  Do not update the next app until the previous App is finished.  You are looking for which App's update button is going to stop the update process and get stuck!  Watch the blue bar on each App until it completes.  When it is successful the "UPDATE" button switches to an "OPEN" button.  Once you find the App where the blue bar doesn't progress at all you'll find the culprit that caused your Update train wreck.
    - You'll need to go back out to the main desktop, find the page and possbily folder that the App is in and hold your finger down on it until it gives you the option to delete it (the X in the upper left of the app icon).  Once you delete this app you can go back to update the apps several at a time until you are finished.  You will then want to plug your iPad into your Mac/PC with iTunes, or do an iCloud sync to backup your iPad.
Take the time to go back to the app store and flag the offending App to let other users know this App was the cause of your update probelms.  Sometimes these issues are noted in the App's release notes with text saying, Users will need to manually delete the previous version and reinstall the App in order to get the latest update.
Hope this helps!  Hit like if it does, it something else worked please hit reply and share.

I have the same problem as the OP. Wife clicked on UPDATE ALL in her iPad mini w/iOS 6.1.3, and the iPad tried to update 20 or 30 apps. All ended up with a darkened icon with an empty progress bar, and "Waiting..." displayed instead of the app's title.
Before finding this thread, I powered the iPad off then on a couple of times, and also performed a hard reset. Neither intervention had any effect.
I tried to follow the recipe above. Unfortunately, double-tapping on one of the stuck apps doesn't work as described:
"The iPad should pause for a second before delivering a message that the update was not applied and then show the original icon of the App".
Instead, the icon goes very dark for a second, then returns to its previous state (Waiting...).
I've deleted most of the affected apps, but a few have large amounts of associated data that I am loathe to erese. Fortunately, the iPad was backed up this morning, so in theory I should be able to restore it from the backup.

  • HT1414 My generation 1 iPad won't update even when I try manually with iTunes.  What am I doing wrong?

So I have tried updating in settings and iTunes and nothing any suggestions?

If you have the 1st gen iPad you cannot update via the settings unless you have iOS 5 on it and that is as high as you can go anyway - actually 5.1.1 is the limit.

  • Macbook won't update past 10.5.5

I have a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8, (Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory: 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM) I cannot get it to update past 10.5.5. When I go to update it, it says "Software Update doesn’t have any new software for your computer at this time." However, my itunes it on 10.6.3 which my computer says is the current version?? But itunes is on 11.3.... Please help! I want to not only update my computer but update my iTunes as well. My iphone will not sync with my Macbook or iTunes.

I think they told us everything except the Mac model:
(Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory: 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM)
That's sufficient to know they can upgrade to 10.7.5.
It could be MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro.
Also depending on the age it may or may not be able to upgrade to 10.8 or later.
Regardless, this tip should help determine if to go to 10.6.8, 10.7.5, or 10.8 or later:
Upgrading to 10.7 and above, don't forget Rosetta!
