You cannot remove or change the old ID. This is Find My iPhone Activation Lock. You need to recover the credentials for the Apple ID originally used to activate the iPad.
Check your spam and junk folders.

1. Does anyone know of a (free) mail notifier tool,

used to use AIM for this in windows
The built in email program does sound an alert for new messages.
2. Anyone know of a good (free, again) IRC client?
iChat works well.
3. I noticed earlier that my screen was flickering,
it seems to have subsided for now, but is that normal
to encounter in a new display? It wasn't really bad
flicker, but I could see it.

You could set the iMac to go to sleep after non use. My Macs are
always sleeping when not in use, waking them up takes seconds.
Unlike windoze, never knew if it would be locked up or not.
5. Should I get the extended warranty? I'm usually
against them, but I am expecting this computer to
last me at least 3 years (for $1300 it better!)
before I upgrade, as I got that much out of a Dell
and from what I understand, Mac's do not age nearly
as fast as Windows pc's.
It is well worth the cost. Never know what might happen. Also
it is good insurance for future upgrades. I traded in my G4 tower
purchased two years ago for 75% of what I paid for it. Apple care
transfers, giving the buyer the remainder of your warranty.

Help - how can I remove text in the background?

I am translating a text from English into Portuguese in a document created in Germany (as .mif 7).
After I inserted the Portuguese text, a ruler and the words "498 Entwurf 15.06.2011" in red and "Abstand" in sky blue started to appear in the background, as well as some kind of a grid (please see attached image). I need them to disappear when the document is printed, but I haven't been able to make them disappear so far. The words in red indicate the name of the document (498) and the date when it was originally created. I need the document to have a white background only with the letters in black and images (just like the original, but in Portuguese - no words in sky blue and red and no grid).
This is probably easy to solve and I may sound really silly, but I've already lost 3 hours and I'm getting desperate because I need to deliver the document as soon as possible.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I think the converter you are using to convert it to portuguese is a free converter and it has been noticed that when you use the free or trial version of any converter ,it generally puts its name in the PDF document and you have to buy that product to get rid of it.If thats true then we would not be able to remove that text.

I have converted/copied my itunes oto mp3 format to play on my PC. unfortunatly I didi not specify a different folder fro the mp3's. I therefore have itunes side by side with my mp3's all in the same folder. How can I remove the mp3's into another folder.

Click on 'Music' in the iTunes sidebar. Look to see whether you have a 'Kind' column:

Exporting a library will create a duplicate of the exported library items. Usually you do this to work on a partial library on another computer and later merge the changed images back. Splitting the library is not the primary purpose of exporting.
If you want to remove the library items that you exported, select them in the source list of the library inspector and delete them (File > Delete Original Images and all Versions). Then empty the Aperture Trash, after checking that you did not trash more than you wanted.
But check, if the backup of your Aperture library is in working condition, and check the exported library carefully, before you do such a massive delete.

You should still have your profile folder, so when you install 3. you will get your bookmarks and other user data back.

I have a BT Infinity router plugged into the Time Capsule, not sure where the radio settings are?
They are able to use the network settings of the TC i.e. they can connect to the internet via the wifi through the TC but when they try and connect to the AirPort Disk this is where it is not allowing a connection.
I don;t have the drive shared out at all at the moment, is this necessary? How do I do this if so?

Transferred info from my Mac Pro desktop computer (using target mode) and there were folder icons on the Mac Pro Finder sidebar that are now on the MacBook Finder sidebar, even though these folders do not exist on the MacBook. Tried to drag them off, which is the usual way to get rid of folders that the user adds to the sidebar (as opposed to those that can be added via the Customize Toolbar dropdown menu) but was unsuccessful. I then unchecked all of the Customize Toolbar menu items and the folder icons still remained. What else can I do?

Did you hold the Command (Apple) key while dragging them off the sidebar? That usually makes them go *poof*.

Only way to get iMac starting again was to re-install 10.4.4 from DVD, and then update it into 10.4.6. For a while it worked perfectly, just as before.
Then I tried to print to CD with my EPSON Stylus Photo 950 from Adobe Photoshop Elements (2.0). It didn't print anything, but printer started flashing all lights. The print job was not performed, so I did remove it from the Printer Utility. After that the iMac started "ticking" again, same noise than before, after 10.4.7 installation. I did re-boot iMac. It never started, it does stuck on gray screen (gray block running clockwise). HW test from DVD didn't find any problems (extended search looping 3 times). But Disk Utility found hard drive to have inaccurate node structure, it could not fix it.
Apple support recommended to use DiskWarrior. However, it does not support (yet) Intel Macs. I haven't got TechTool Pro 4.5.1 anywhere. iMac does start on to FireWire mode (T at boot), but I cannot see the disk from 10.2.8 iMac.
So, obvisously the problem is not 10.4.7. I believe it to be ESPON printer driver compatibility on Mac OSX. This does not suprise me, EPSON printers *****, I shall never purchase one again. However, disk catalog structure should not get messed by one faulty printer driver!
