My iPad2 Playlists "Drop" Songs

Using an iPad 2, whenever I connect to my PC (note: not syncing or using sync for music or playlists) iTunes and/or my iPad automatically "deletes duplicate" tracks from my playlists, even though the tracks aren't duplicates. It deletes the same songs over and over, very frustrating when I create a playlist of 85-100 tracks, add one song to my iPad, and have the playlist cut down to 20 tracks. Is there any known way to fix this, or to turn off the deleting duplicates function?

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
On your iPad go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings and see if that enables you to connect.
If none of the above suggestions work, look at this link.

  • Why cannot I drag and drop songs from one playlist to another?

Actually I have two questions.  I just updated from Leopard to snow leopard.  Now when I import songs, it says "Do you want to import to burn playlist?"  I click "yes".  Then when it is finished copying, I go to "playlists" on the top of the screen and click on the "burn playlist" and it says there are no items.  Where did the songs go.  I would like to burn a playlist that I imported this way.  I haven't tried arranging songs in the order I want them yet, but now see that is an issue also.  I also used to see a list of my playlists on the left side of the screen and the songs within each of those playlists when I clicked on them and easily could drag and drop songs from one playlist to another.  How do I do the same functions that I used to do before I updated? Does this update make it impossible to do the same functions as before?  Where can I find a "manual" of sorts to direct me to explain this new format?  If there is no way to do these things, I will have to say that I want my old iTunes back.  Can I do so???  Actually, the only reason I updated was so that I could play pix and movies from my camera into iPhoto.  When I did so, it said I had to update other programs to get iPhoto to work.  I am trying very hard not to be very frustrated.  PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After poking around for a while figured how to do things in this new iTunes.  Not as intuitive as the old one.  Sorry I don't have time to tell what I figured out.  Maybe some other time.

  • Why Can I no longer drag and drop songs into Itunes playlists?

Why can I no longer drag and drop songs into itunes playlists.  Was working fine then just stopped???

    found solution, thanx everyone

  • I can't drag and drop songs from library to playlists

Unable to drag and drop songs from library into playlists, however I can drop them above or below playlists. That is no help in editing playlists! Seems to be after last iTunes up date.
    Tkank you

My mistake totally!!! I confused a new playlist folder with a new playlist.
Just wanted to pass that along.

  • ITunes won't allow me to drag and drop songs into playlists

    Running OS X 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.4 (80).
I cannot drag and drop songs within iTunes to create playlists or move songswithin playlists.
    Here's what I've already tried:
    -Reset iTunes Store cahce
-Log out & in of iTunes Store
    -Quit & Restart itunes
-Rebuilt iTunes library (by moving iTunes Library.xml file and getting rid of .itl file)
-Checked info on iTunes folders so that permissions are both read & write
    -Restart computer
-dug through a discussion of this problem on MacRumors and none of those solutions worked.
Getting frustrated and hate that I have to dig around in discussions and wait for the community to figure this out instead of Apple answering and solving the problem when their software doesn't work.
Has anyone figured out how to fix this? Aaaarrgh!

No, I haven't had any solution to this problem. None of the myriad of possible solutions work. Doesn't someone from Apple monitor these boards? I've given up in getting it fixed and am seriously ****** at the lack of response on Apple's part without me paying for an answer. This is a ridiculous way to support software, where I have to troll around a discussion board hoping someone stumbled upon a solution and will actually reply to this thread.
Considering the amount of Apple products that I own, you'd think I could get a freakin' response. Here's are the amount of apple products in my house, all bought within the past 3 years-
    Mac Pro Quad Core
    15" MacBook Pro
    13" Macbook Air
    3 Mac Minis
    Three iPad's
    2 iPhone 4's
    2 iPod Touch's
But because it's on my Mac Pro, which is 1 1/2 years old, I can't get an answer to this! ***.

  • Can't drag and drop songs into a new playlist

I can't seem to drag and drop songs from my itunes library into a new playlist in order to burn a cd.  Any suggestions?  I've tried closing out and restarting but that didn't work.  thanks!

You may have clicked one of the categories that reordered your sonds (ie Name or Artist). This make is override any drag and drop. To allow drag & drop within a playlist:
Look near the top at the Title of your playlist
Click on the far left hand column (probably has numbers in it). This organinzed songs by the numbers listed there instead of by Name or Artist or whatever....
Now you should be able to drag & drop.
    Hope this helps. Blessings!

Why can't I drag and drop songs within my playlist?

Are you automatically updating your iPod?
Are you talking about dragging and dropping in iTunes?

  • Why can't I drag and drop songs from one playlist to another?

All of a sudden I can no longer drag and drop songs from one playlist to another.  The only way I can do it now is by selecting the song[s], right click on them, and then choose "Move to playlist...."  Any thoughts?

Yes! This is really annoying. I don't know why they couldn't keep the functionality from the old version. The more I use the new iTunes the less I like it.

  • Can't drag and drop songs into playlists

Does anyone know why I can't seem to drag and drop a song into a playlist I have created........I can drop songs into the untitled playlist but none of the others. Please help! Thanks.

Almost certainly, the reason no one understands your issues is because you haven't explained them well enough.

I can hear alarm bells. It really isn't good.

So you haven't fixed it yourself, despite saying that you have.
Okay, stop with those negative waves.
Have you checked to make sure that the Playlist you are trying to add to is a Regular Playlist...
    and not a Smart Playlist...
    or a Playlist Folder...
In addition to all of this, the original question was asked 18 months ago, before iTunes 11. So is your problem that you cannot work out how to create a new playlist? For example, at which point do you get stuck with this new Playlist, creating it, or adding to it?

  • Can't drag n drop songs.  Can't reorder playlists.

I can no longer drag n drop songs into playlists, nor can I reorder my playlists.  I've checked forums online and the common solutions are:
    1. make sure your playlists or not smart playlists.
    and
    2. click the numbers column and make sure shuffle is off.
The playlists I'm trying to affect are definitely not smart playlists.  And, Shuffle is definitely off.  I've tried everything I can think of.  I cannot drag songs to reorder a playlist. And I cannot even drag a song from my library into a playlist.  I have to right click the song, and then click Add to Playlist and Choose the Playlist from the popup menu,  which is very frustrating, especially considering I've had iTunes for years and could always drag n drop and reorder.  What happened?  Please help.

I'm having the exact same issue on my iMac after updating to 10.5. The first issue was getting the message "iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. I googled the solution below and it got my library back.
    ====
"Go to C:\Users\(your username)\Music\iTunes and rename the file iTunes Library.itl to iTunes Library.OLD
..... then Open iTunes, go to "Help" --> "Check For Updates". Once you update iTunes, go back to "C:\Users\(your username)\Music\iTunes" rename newly created "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library.NEW" and your old file, "iTunes Library.OLD" rename back to "iTunes Library.itl". You will be able to open your iTunes and all Libraries with in."

I thought I was in the clear until I tried making a new playlist today. Discovered that I can't drag and drop songs anymore. Have to right click on each song individually to Add to Playlist. Ugh! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • New iTunes doesn't let me fill a new playlist with songs off an iPod

THIS USED TO WORK ON OLDER VERSIONS OF ITUNES. I own an ipod Shuffle. Sometimes iTunes Autofills my Shuffle with a cool mix of songs from my iTunes library. I want to make that new set of songs into a new playlist in my iTunes. I used to be able to do this by simply: (1) create a new playlist in iTunes, (2) select all the songs on my Shuffle, (3) drag the songs from my Shuffle on to the new playlist's icon.
Sometimes, I won't use the Autofill feature and I will manually drop songs from my Library into my Shuffle. I'll drop a couple songs on to my Shuffle each day. Over the course of a month, I will have slowly built up a set of songs of all my current favorites on my ipod shuffle. Well, of course, I'd like to make all those songs on my Shuffle into a new playlist in iTunes, so I can "preserve" the set of songs I spent weeks building up. Again, I used to be able to do this very easily, but for some reason, in the latest version of iTunes, I can not drag and drop songs from my Shuffle into a playlist.
Let me make clear, I own all this music and all the songs on my Shuffle are already in my Library on my Macbook. This is a matter of creating PLAYLISTS from whatever songs are on my Shuffle at any given time. PLEASE BRING BACK THIS CAPABILITY.

Turn your phone off, then force it into recovery mode & restore it:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.

  • Can't drag and drop songs...

So I just got my daughter her first iPod (shuffle), and wanted to put some songs onto it. However, when I go to populate a new playlist for her shuffle to autofill from, I find that I cannot drag and drop songs at all. I have done this as recently as last week with a nano and iPod touch, but now it doesn't work at all. I can't even change the order of songs in my playlists that have already been created. I've checked for updates and it looks like I have the most recent version of everything. I've tried restarting, etc, and the same thing keeps happening. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    HI Andy,
If you haven't already done so, check the manual that came with her iPod and Reset the iPod.
And here's a link that will provide you with all the information you need:

  • Can't drag playlists or songs in itunes

I can drag songs or playlists in itunes to manually load my ipod in pc, but not in mac ..... wanting to load up new ipod with existing playlists

I was adding songs to my iPod playlist and not even 2 minutes in to the task I could no longer drag and drop songs into ANY of my playlists. I could just as easily right-click and the songs would go without problem.
I've just got off the phone with Apple Support and all he had me do was download the most recent security update. I believe the only reason I was asked to do with was so my Macbook would not just restart, but also refresh all of the apps as well.
    So far so good. KMFC.

  • CAN'T DRAG & DROP SONGS TO IPHONE

I just bought a new iPhone and I can't drag and drop any of my songs. However, i'm able to drag and drop songs with my 30 gb iPod. Help!!!!

    Hi jasondechert!
First, make sure that iTunes sees the device. When you click on the device it'll bring you to the device summary tab where it lists basic information about your device. You should see other tabs, one of which is entitled "Music."
Click on the Music tab and you'll presented with the following options:
    1. Sync Music (with a checkbox)
    2. All songs and playlists (with a radio box)
    3. Selected playlists (with a radio box)
    4. A listing of the playlists in iTunes (each with a checkbox)
    5. Include music videos (with a checkbox)
Keep in mind that everything will be grayed out if you don't have the first checkbox (Sync music) checked. Once you check that first box you can then choose to sync all of your music (the entire library) or specific playlists. If you select "selected playlists" it will then allow you to choose the specific playlists you want to sync.

  • Drag & drop songs into iTunes?

I used to be able to drag and drop songs into my iTunes, but I cannot any longer.  I'm using a PC and running the latest version of iTunes.  Can anyone help me figure out how? Is there some setting change?  Thanks!

You can't reorder songs in the library using drag and drop, that only works in a playlist. You can only arrange the library by clicking at the head of any particular column which gives you an alpha numeric sort option. Try this, I found that it works for me. Right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose **Track Number** from the list. Click at the top of this new column to sort it and after that click on the Album column. If you like you can then click on Artist which is how I prefer mine ordered, it will continue to hold the track order as well. Afterwards anything you import should follow this arrangement Artist>Album>Track Number within Album (you can hide the track number column when you've done if you don't want it cluttering up the view)
