My iPad2 won't charge.

my iPad2 won't charge today. Turning it on and off hasn't helped, it won't charge from the mains adaptor or from my iMac. Any ideas?

Make sure the 30-pin connector is fully seated in the side of the iPad. Also make sure there's no dust in the connector.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. My ipad2 won't charge, it's been on 1% all day now. It's plugged in and keeps shutting off. The cord works fine, it's charging my husbands iPad. Any suggestions?

Is this with the power adaptor that was included with your iPad 2 purchase?
The same power adaptor and USB dock connector cable charges your husband's iPad?
If so, sounds like a hardware problem with the battery or something else. Have you tried powering the iPad off and on and/or a reset which is similar to a computer restart?
If so with no change, make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • IPad2 won't charge with 10w wall charger, but will via USB port

    Hi all,
My iPad2 recently stopped charging at all with the 10W wall charger  -- the iPad does not even recognize that the charger is attached (no change in the battery icon).  Meanwhile, charging from a USB port works as otherwise expected. Here is what I have done so far to debug the problem, using tips found on this forum:
    I replaced the wall charger, including the USB cable, with a new 10W charger from Apple -- no change;
I verified that both the new and old wall charger will charge a borrowed iPad3.
    I verified that the same USB cable used with the wall charger will charge my iPad fine when connected to my Mac Mini or a borrowed MBA;
    When connected to a powered USB port on a Lenovo ThinkPad, I get the expected "Not Charging" message, but eventually (12 hours) the iPad will charge;
I have performed a hard reboot of the iPad several times, with no change in behavior.
What I have not done yet:
    6.  Restore to factory settings -- trying to avoid this painful step if possible:
    7.  Visited the Apple Store -- not logistically convenient at this time.
Any tips from the community what else I might try? I find it curious that the iPad won't recognize a closed charging circuit from the wall charger, but will from a laptop USB port.
Thanks in advance for your time and advice.

Take it into the apple store.
I've had a 30 pin port go bad on my iPad. Said it was 'not charging' even though it was trickle charging, didn't wnat to sync, ,etc.
You very possibly have something internal wrong with your port and it'd be in your best interest to take it in. Especially if it's still under warranty because, barring any obvious signs of abuse or neglect, the 30 pin would fall under manufacturer's defects.

  • My iPad2 won't charge when plugged into an outlet.

My iPad 2 won't charge when plugged into an outlet. I've tried 12W and 10W original Apple iPad chargers as well as iPhone 4 chargers. It charges (very slowly) when I plug it into my laptop but I've tried every outlet in my house and at work with no success. So I am stumped as to why it won't work in two completely different locations when plugged into the outlet - because it's obviously not the charger, cable or the iPad batter.
I've tried blowing out dust from the port, resetting my iPad (holding down the home and power buttons at the same time) and jiggling the cable.
Note: I am still on iOS 6 so upgrading my OS isn't the issue.
I would appreciate any assistance with this as it's very frustrating!

If it will charge when connected to the computer, but very slowly, typical of a low power USB port, but will not charge with the chargers you have tried, the issue is then most likely with the chargers.  However, to be sure, take the iPad and charger and cable to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians test them to see where the problem is occuring.

  • My ipad2 won't Charge but the charger works on an Iphone? It is also in Restore Mode?

My Ipad2 wont charge but the charger works on an iphone, the ipad is in restore mode and its telling me to connect it to itunes every few minutes. When I connect it to itunes it works for a minute or two but then turns itself back to the screen with low battery (saying it needs to be on charge). But then it says it need to be connected to itunes again! Help? How can I fix this?

If you connect by WiFi, put the charger in the iPad.
If you connect by cable, try an other USB port, and/or use another cable.

  • Since downloading ios8 iPad 2 won't charge or turn on! help!

    Hi guys,
i updated to ios8 last week, since then my ipad2 has done nothing but run terribly slow, two nights ago my battery went low and cut out all together. I put the iPad on charge aand it just won't charge up or turn on at all now.
I Have tried pressing the two buttons together many times. It's been on charge for two days straight, I've plugged it into my laptop to see if the greater power source could boot it up. None of this worked
Tonight i went went to the Trafford centre Apple store and got no help at all. qued for half an hour to get my iPad plugged into a laptop and forgotten about, felt like because I wasn't buying anything they didn't want to know! So going into a store hasn't helped me either.
I Was just wondering has this happened to anyone else? I don't know what to do about it and am lost without it! If anyone has any advice please help!!

    1. The most efficient way to charge an iPad is with the charger that came with the iPad and having that plugged into a wall outlet. Trying to charge while connected to a laptop often doesn't work because the USB port may not provide enough power.
    2. Once an iPad battery has completely drained it may take an hour or more on the wall charger before the iPad responds. So after an hour on the charger reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.
    3. If the iPad still does not start up make an appt at the Apple store. It will be far better if you have an appointment rather than just walking in because those with appointments will be taken care of before you are.

My Ipad2 won't turn off.  I have tried the reset method by holding both buttons down for at least 10 seconds, but this doesn't work.  I can't get onto the internet via wi-fi either (don't have a 3G card fitted).  All other functions seem to be working OK including charging. Not had this problem before, but I recently upgraded software to 5.1.1 so is there a bug in there somewhere?

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

  • My ipad(2) is plugged into my pc but won't charge-any ideas?

    my ipad2 is plugged in but won't charge-any ideas--only 2 weeks old

Your PCs USB port is probably not capable of providing enough power to charge your iPad. It might be charging at a very slow rate and when your iPad is in sleep mode. Use the adapter provided with your iPad.

  • IPad 2 won't charge when plugged into the wall or computer. Please Help!

Hi, I'm really hoping someone can help me??
My other half took my iPad 2 to Ireland (and took the official Apple wall charger). One night when he was charging the iPad it came up with the message 'this accessory is not compatible with this device'  but he left it as he knew it was the correct charger and had the lightning bolt over the battery meter. Plus we have other Apple devices (iPhones, iPod Touch and iPod video and nano) that have displayed this message before and been okay.
Since he has been back, whenever the iPad is plugged into charge, either via wall mains or via USB on my laptop it won't charge. It doesn't even recognise that it is plugged in (no lightning bolt over the battery meter, no noise or vibration to show that it has been plugged in).
I've spoke to Apple Support today and found that it is 36 days out of warranty and will cost me over £210 to repair . The operator did suggest that I back up the iPad and then restore it to its factory settings but when I plug it in to my laptop with iTunes on it does not recognise it is there! So how can I do this?
Please can someone help? I've tried googling all sorts of resolutions but none work, you guys are my last hope as I cannot afford to repair it!
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Leanne

So, today I was able to connect my ipad to the computer and completely restore to factory settings, first I backed it up to icloud, then through itunes I was able to erase my ipad2 completely then disconnect from the computer and through icloud, restore my system. It worked... the first time I restored my ipad I didn't do it through itunes so the system didn't get erased, so you have to go through itunes.
back up your ipad on icloud first...
    connect ipad.. do not sync.
click on ipad icon in your itunes program.
    go to summary
    version
    restore
once restored disconnect and get your back up from icloud,.
    worked for me!!

  • Ipad 2 won't charge after ios 7.0.3 update

After the ios 7.0.3 update, I had to restore my ipad2. Now, it won't charge. I have tried different plugs and outlets. I have also reset it and restored it, again. Nothing worked. Has anyone had this problem and any luck fixing it?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

  • After downloading ISO8 my USB Ports on my IMAC arnt working and now my iPad2 will not charge?

after downloading ISO8 my USB Ports on my IMAC arnt working and now my iPad2 will not charge? even tried to use 240v charger? both my iMac and iPad have been updated, my mini iPad is working on old iso7 so that won't be updated in a hurry, any help would be great.

First is the most USB ports do not provide enough power to charge an iPad. Do not try and charge your iPad from such USB ports.
There is no 240v charger. There is one charger that will work with US voltages and European voltages. If your iPad is not charger with the charger, make certain that is an iPad charger, not an iPhone charger. If the charger does not work try swapping the cable as the cable may be bad. If that does not work try another charger. All simple steps that should be attempted before pinning the problem on IOS 8.

  • My 4th gen iPod Touch won't charge

    Hi, folks:
Suddenly, my 4th generation iPod Touch won't charge. I don't mean it won't hold a charge; I mean it WON'T charge. There's no (peep!) when I attach it to a Mac, a Windows box, or to the wall. I've tried not only at my place but at my doctor's office, too, on his computer. Rats.
It fell three feet onto a concrete floor a week before this happened, so I'm unsure of cause/effect there. However, chances are most excellent that I touched it while filled with static electicity (my bed is exceedingly staticky). Maybe I touched the charging port? I have no idea, but I kinda sorta have a memory of having gotten a shock while touching my pod and wondering whether that was bad.
It'll be a couple more days before I can get to a Genius Bar (but thank cow I'm in New York City and have my pick of them!). In the meantime, can anyone calm me down about my situation? Do you imagine it's doomed (it IS still operable provided I keep it plugged in, though iTunes can't see it since it won't mount), or do you spose the installation of a new battery might bring my precious baby back to me? It IS freshly backed up (again, thank cow!), but I'm not in a position to buy a new one right now, and unfortunately, I don't know what to do with my eyeballs without a Touch in front of them.
Oh, how I hope someone can tell me that this has happened to him, and an Apple Genius merely did something magical and handed it back intact and amazing again so Ican cry happy tears. It's been four days and I'm just sick without it (and having to look at this gigantic Mac, with its large and beautiful text in many windows, means I can't RECLINE! WAAAAH!).
Thanks for any soothing words you have, and if you have sad ones, well, I'll vag up and read them, as I've prepared for the worst anyway (sob!). Just please deliver them gently.
    I appreciate it!

Wow, Kevin; that's a tantalizing theory! I don't like it (I *never* like to think about logic board damage for any piece of hardware), but it's tantalizing, as it would explain my pod seemingly charging out of thin air, and it'd also explain why my pod doesn't just DIE altogether from a dead battery.
I feel like an idiot: I have iTunes set to never sync automatically with my pod, so it never automatically recognizes the pod. I'll bet I could sync it if I clicked to "apply," as I've been downloading new apps since 2/21 (the last time I backed the pod up, mere minutes before it failed), but I don't want to risk not having a connection that's 100% and bollixing up what's on the pod now. (I'll be in the hospital for a day and will need something to read the whole time; I'll need an intact pod!)
Thanks for sticking with me, Kevin; I always like figgering things out, and your theory's interesting. I'll mention it to the Genius. It doesn't give me any hope, but not having any hope, I can always be pleasantly surprised, whereas if I go in all hopeful, someone can dash my dreams. This way, I'll prolly just have my expectations met.
I appreciate your talking it out with me a lot!

  • My iphone 5 won't charge :(

My iphone 5 won't charge with the cable I bought, I don't know if its because maybe it isn't an apple product? Can somone please help me! thank you

If you did buy a 3rd party product, that could be a reason. Can you check with an original Apple USB cable?
To ensure the best possible experience, Apple has created special compatibility requirements for accessory manufacturers. Products that are engineered and certified to be compatible have a "Made for" label on their package. To ensure compatibility when purchasing third-party accessories for use with your device, look for accessories that are authorized to use the "Made for" label associated with your device (see below).
