This doesn't have anything to do with your problem, but it will likely cause other issues with your e-mail.
Here's my standard recommendation concerting the use of A-V software to deal with potentially infected messages:
Never use ClamXav (or any other A-V software) to move (quarantine) or delete e-mail. It will corrupt the mailbox index which could cause loss of other e-mail and other issues with functions such as searching. It may also leave the original e-mail on your ISP's e-mail server and will be re-downloaded to your hard drive the next time you check for new mail.
So, if you choose to "Scan e-mail content for malware and phishing" in the General Preferences, make sure you do not elect to either Quarantine or Delete infected files.

Select "Reveal In Finder" from the pop-up menu.

If you disagree and choose to retain the message, return to ClamXav and choose "Exclude From Future Scans" from the pop-up menu.
If this is a g-mail account and those messages continue to show up after you have deleted them in the above manner, you may need to log in to webmail using your browser, go to the "All Mail" folder, find the message(s) and use the delete button there to permanently delete them from the server.
To fix the corrupted mailbox index(es), highlight each one that was corrupted and choose Rebuild from the appropriate menu.

45 Watt vs 65 Watt Power Adapter

Does anyone out there know if you can use a 65 watt power adapter with a 800MHz iBook in place of the intended 45 watt power adapter without damaging the computer?
I know the specs are 24 volts and 1.875 amps for the 45 watt adapter versus 24.5 volts and 2.65 amps for the 65 watt version.

I had to replace my 45w adapter and was told by Apple that a 65w one would work. Since using it, the battery icon has been slowly reducing in percentage. At first it was around 57% and although I only use the computer when connected to the mains, it now sits at 1% where it has remained for the last several days. It doesn't affect the battery. You can use your MacBook Pro plugged in all the time without damaging the battery. You only have to be sure that you unplug it and run a battery cycle (drain the battery without letting the Mac turn off and charge it fully) at least once a month to keep the battery life.

Absolutely no problem. The device will draw only as much energy as it can safely absorb. The 12W rating for the charger is maximum available power.

MagSafe Power Adapter will not power my computer.

This just happened today. June 2nd.
My power adapter the thing you plug into the wall to give you macbook power
just gave out. It is not feeding my computer power.
I am not sure why but it now working.
It is almost a year old.

My wife's Macbook (white 13") just had this same issue. Started last night. Her battery got low, she plugged in the computer and it wouldn't charge (light turned green on the power adapter). The battery icon in the upper right bar shows an X through it.

I was hoping the issue was with the battery, so I shut down the computer, removed the battery and swapped batteries with my White 13" Macbook. I plugged in both machines and my mac (with her "bad" battery) started charging, while her mac (with my good battery) refused to charge and still showed the icon with the X.
Now I'm worried there's a bigger issue here, such as with the logic board.
Her mac is at 10.4.11 and has the 1.3 battery update installed.
I'm going to make an appointment at the Apple store today. The warranty on this machine expired on Friday.
I just love how this problem keeps happening almost right after the warranty runs out.

Mac Book Pro 17" 85W Power Adapter too Hot to handle while charging/using

I bought a Mac Book Pro 17". What's up with my Power Adapter when I am using the computer at the same time charging it. The Power Adapter gets so hot that it is too hot to handle...very very hot! Is this normal ?
Any advise is most welcome on the matter.

The adapter should get warm, but not hot
The first thing i'd do is try it in a different power socket
If it still heats up like you say regardless of where you plug it in, then its a fault in the adapter
return it to apple or an apple reseller and get another one
i wouldn't use it any more as it could be dangerous to your computer and become a fire hazzard

Had Power Adapter replaced, battery icon not showing charge

Hello, hoping you guys can help me out. Recently, my power adapter had burned out (wouldn't show charge/light up at all). I've had it replaced as of today and is working fine (Whoo!), but now a new problem's come up.
I admit I used my battery to it's limit while waiting for the new adapter, and while the light on the adapter is green, the battery icon on my screen is showing 0%. Pressing the button on the battery only gives me one green light.

Re-calibrating the battery is typically done with a new battery, where you charge it all the way up, then run it all the way down a couple of times. This calibrates the battery's internal electronics to the actual capacity of the battery. Not a concern here.
Looking at your battery stats, is your battery fairly new? It is showing 56 charge/discharge cycles, does that sound about right? Reason for asking is, if the battery is old, like maybe the original battery that came with the system, sometimes a dying lithium battery throws up screwy stats. If it is an older battery, that may be why it's not charging ... it's dead. However, if it is a newer battery ....
There's only 4 components to the charging circuit - power adapter, dc-in card, battery, and logic board. You have a new power adapter, and the system is seeing the 65 watt power adapter, so the power adapter and dc-in card appear to be OK. That leaves either a battery issue or a logic board issue. Do you have another battery you can swap in, or a friend with the same model PowerBook, or an Apple store nearby? If you swap another battery in, and it starts charging, and the current batter is an older one, then replace the battery. I would stay away from batteries sold on ebay, as there have been a number of people very disappointed with the lack of quality in the battery they bought.
If another battery won't charge, that would point to a logic board issue. We just had that on one of our PowerBooks, where it would charge, and it wasn't a power adapter, dc-in, or battery problem. The Apple store sent it off to the Apple Depot, for around $350, and they replaced the logic board as well as the battery. If they do more work, like replacing a dented case, the price goes up. If the Apple store replaces the logic board in the store, it costs around $750 or more.

Power adapter intermittent charging

I have a late 2006 17" Mac Pro for which I recently replaced the power adapter. As recommended by Apple, I purchased the 85W MagSafe adapter with the "L" style connector. The original adapter had a "T" style connector.
About two weeks ago, the adapter began to function intermittently: sometimes it would charge the laptop and sometimes it would not. Whether or not it was charging was clearly indicated by the small light on the connector. I took the laptop and adapter to my local Apple Service Provider to explain the situation and, of course, it functioned perfectly while at the shop. The technician ran a diagnostic on the computer and adapter and confirmed that everything was working properly.
Nonetheless, the intermittent behavior continued. After a little troubleshooting on my own, I determined a pattern to this problem. Here's what I found:
1. If the computer is plugged in before it is booted up, the adapter charges.
2. If the computer is running or asleep when the power adapter is plugged in, it does not charge.
3. If the computer is plugged in (and not charging), and is then shut down completely and turned back on, the power adapter will begin to charge as soon as it boots up.
4. If the computer is plugged in (and not charging) and restarted without shutting down completely, the adapter will not charge.
Any ideas on how to remedy this situation? Resetting the Power Management Unit maybe?

The argument that you will need to make to Apple is that the condition resulted from faulty manufacturing and not from user abuse. I think these situations are decided on a case by case basis. I think the earlier models also had a flimsier strain relief than the later ones, and these earlier ones were more prone to failure. If that's what you have, you may be able to make a case for replacement.

All of a sudden even using the power adapter its only at 57% after 8 hours

I have my powerbook 1.67ghz, its plugged in and i have a couple of adapters so i dont think it is the power adapter.
it has been plugged in and only records 57% power. What does anyone think? it fluctuates between GREEN and AMBER light on the power adapter.
On the back of the computer itself i see some green lights but i dont know what they mean.

Not when you ran System Profiler and got the results you quoted above, you weren't — at least not if System Profiler can be believed. Set the 50W adapter aside and don't use it with the Powerbook. If your alleged 65W adapter is identified by SP as a 50W adapter, it needs to be replaced with a proper one.
If you "really never use it unplugged," that may explain why your Powerbook is misbehaving. Powerbook batteries want to be used. If you don't completely discharge and recharge your battery every two to four weeks, its charge-level calibration will become very inaccurate, and it may lose capacity faster than it should.

If the plug on the 65W adapter fits your iBook (i.e., if it's an iBook G4 rather than a G3), test the 65W adapter to make sure it charges the iBook battery properly. (This will do neither the adapter nor the iBook any harm.) If it does, it's almost certainly not at fault. The other three components of the Powerbook's charging system are the battery, the logic board, and the DC-in/Sound card. Plug the 65W adapter into a wall socket that you know is reliable and not switched. Reset your Powerbook's Power Management Unit, following the instructions in this article for your particular model. Connect the adapter to the Powerbook and let it charge for twelve hours without turning it on. Post back to let us know the results.
Other questions:
How old is your battery?
Was this battery supplied to you under Apple's replacement program for original PB batteries within a certain serial-number range? Many of the replacement batteries issued under that program seem to have been defective. They lose capacity very rapidly and prematurely (which yours hasn't done) and/or they refuse to charge even when they appear to be in good health (which yours may be doing). If your battery was supplied under the replacement program, it falls under greater suspicion.

Inspire 2.1 2500 system power adapter

I got and Inspire 2.1 2500 speaker set from someone but there wasn't a power adapter. The specs say that it uses a 12VAC, 2.9A adapter. Does anyone know if a regular 2VAC adapter from Radio Shack will work? Lofton

I face a similar problem with my Inspire 2.1 3300. My right speaker--well, the speaker I put in the right speaker port in the subwoofer--has shorted out recently. I've had the system for around 2-3 years, and while I expect this to happen I would like to attempt repair anyway. I checked the connections at least fourty times, and yet this speaker is functional, breaking up, or very very quiet. I've moved the speaker cord around and found I can get some signal. I'm assuming this problem is in the speaker itself, after inspecting the woofer.
Until my friend looks at it, I can't help you except agree on the situation. I'll get another post in here soon.
