My iphone 3 GS shows mirror image i.e backward/reversed text when switched on or woken up ?  Any explanations or solutions?

Hi, my i-phone 3GS suddenly started showing all text in reverse or mirror image when it wakes or is switched on.  By toggling the on/off swtich it may revert to normal eventually but it takes time.   Problem is recurrent for 3 days and makes the phone unusable in a hurry.   Any explanations or solutions.

Add me to the list of disgruntled users who have had this same problem since upgrading to 3.1. After restarting the phone, it works for about 30-40 minutes and after that, no calls, no texts, no voicemails, no 3G web browsing or email (wi-fi still works).
The tech at the Genius Bar (at the 3rd St. Santa Monica, CA store) seemed as though he had no idea what the problem was. Since my phone is out of warranty, he told me that if the phone needed to be replaced, it would be at my expense, which p*ssed me off, since it was obvious (to me) that the OS update was at fault.
I did a half-dozen restores before I realized that there was no way to roll back to a previous version of the OS and that outside of that, it didn't really matter what I did.
I just read the tip on this thread about turning off 3G. It works fine so far. We'll see if it continues to work after the dreaded 40-minute mark.
Thanks, everyone, for the help. Hopefully, Apple will put out a fix quickly, before they have a revolt on their hands.

    Try This...
    Close All Open Apps...  Perform a Reset... Try again...

  • Re: Slide Show Mirror Image

    I have recently upgraded to iWeb 08. I was hoping to be able to control the use or nonuse of the Mirror Image in the slideshow mode. There is not a way to disallow
    this mirror imaging. Any way this can be done simply??

    Look at Inspector -> Photos -> Slideshow tab -> Appearance -> Show reflection.

  • Acrobat Pro Extended 9.1.3 shows mirror image for second pdf

    When I open a second PDF using Acrobat Pro Extended 9.1.3 the second file is shown as an enlarged text "mirror image." Has anyone else experienced this behavior?

    One of our users is having a similar problem.    He always leaves Elements open in the background so I'm wondering if this is causing problems when he downloads and opens pdfs using Acrobat Standard 9.  He also seeing the images stretch to the point of seeing a bunch of horizontal lines.  Has anyone offered any solutions?

  • IPhone 5 Showing incorrect Time. Unable to send text messages.

    Ok here's my problem. My time on my iPhone is incorrect. I check my settings it's on automatic and it is set to my Hawaii time zone. I am unable to send text messages because I believe the time is not the same as the server. When I try to send a text it says Go to Date & time settings. This happens at least once a day. My time would be incorrect for 10 mins then go back to correct time. This happens on LTE and on WiFi. I also have rebooted the iPhone. One last thing. I check my battery usage. It's says 4,294,967,278 days on Standby. I guess the time is messing up my stats. Anyone have the same problem? Please help. If not I hope new ios update fix this.

      My house is in an area that is covered by 3G.  But I work in an area that is 4G-LTE.  (Actually, my house is right on the border of these coverages because I notice it switching from 3G to LTE periodically.)
    Anyway, what I notice is that when I switch from the LTE to 3G network, my iPhone 5 clock gets corrupted.  It's 2h22m off.  Weird.  It doesn't do it right away, but after I'm home for awhile, I'll notice that the clock has been changed.  I know this corruption causes errors in my iMessage app because I've gotten an error message about it.  It may cause errors in others.
    Once I leave my house and go back into stable LTE coverage, I can do one of the following to correct the clock (because it won't autocorrect):
    - turn the phone off and then back on
    - go to Settings => General => Date&Time and switch "Set Automatically" off and then back on
    These fixes will also work if I stay in 3G coverage.
    This has happened every day since I got the phone so I know it's a real bug.  I'm sending a support request to Apple today.  Otherwise, however, I love my iPhone 5 and LTE speed makes all the difference.

  • Lightroom (Vista):  Reversed/Mirrored Images in Preview!

    New user to Lightroom 1.2 here using a Vista PC.
    When I connected the camera (Canon G9 or Canon SD870is) to my PC via the USB, Lightroom was already opened (as recommended by the Kelby Lightroom book). At this point, a pop up dialog box opens up and there is a small check box at the bottom LEFT corner that says "Preview", which I checked because I WOULD like to see/preview the images. Oddly, the pictures showing up (to the right side of this dialog box which expanded after I checked the "Preview" box) are MIRROR images or at least REVERSED!
    May I know why that is the case and whether or not there are user changeable settings? It seems to me that it is not desirable to have reversed preview images!
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi Jay & Rob,
    Thx for your comments/advice.
    Today, I used my Sandisk Extreme III's included MicroMate USB card reader (very small, more like a wide-looking flash drive with a little slot for the SDHC to go into. It worked. The previewed images are no long mirror images.
    Does this basically mean that there is no hope for the Canon G9 to ever change? I was informed in the Canon forum of dpreview by some folks that Canon, as a general rule, does NOT issue new firmware upgrades UNLESS there is a serious issue. That is to say, they don't issue firmware upgrades just for the sake of new functionalities, only if they HAVE to due to some defect. Actually, this IS a "defect", in my view. Not being able to work properly with one of the most popular and respected programs in the photography world IS a problem/defect.
    What to do now?
    On the other hand, as annoying as this is, I should only see the Preview thumbnails briefly, just to identify which pictures to "check mark".
    I wonder why it is considered so "bad" to connect the G9 directly to the PC? I like it more because it decreases the possibility of breaking the little flimsy door of the battery/SDHC card compartment (less opening/closing = less chance of breakage). I don't find the speed to be that horrible. The 10 pictures or so I downloaded using the MicroMate card reader (given free with my Extreme III card) took just about as long as it would have from the G9, but then again, 10 pictures is not much...should it have been 150 pictures, it might have made a more substantial and noticeable difference.
    any comments please? thx in advance!

  • Mirror Image on front camera

    I feel like it hasn't always been like this. When I take picture before my front facing camera on iPhone and iPad, it auto mirrors the image. Is there any way to undo this setting?
    Thanks In advance.

    You're used to seeing yourself in the mirror. That's a true mirror image. What you're seeing when the picture is taken is what somone would see if they were standing in front of you. Yeah, it's kinda weird.

  • Showing an image in a JPanel

    Hi all!
    I'm developing an applet that shows an image in a JPanel when it is clicked. The problem is that when the code that shows the image is placed in the mouseClicked() method, nothing happens...
    Any idea would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Applet's code:
    package test;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.applet.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.image.*;
    import javax.imageio.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class ImageMouseClick extends JApplet implements MouseListener{
      private boolean isStandalone = false;
      JPanel jPanel1 = new JPanel();
      JPanel jPanel2 = new JPanel();
      GridBagLayout gridBagLayout1 = new GridBagLayout();
      BufferedImage bufi;
      //Get a parameter value
      public String getParameter(String key, String def) {
        return isStandalone ? System.getProperty(key, def) :
          (getParameter(key) != null ? getParameter(key) : def);
      //Construct the applet
      public ImageMouseClick() {
      //Initialize the applet
      public void init() {
        try {
          jbInit();
        catch(Exception e) {
          e.printStackTrace();
      //Component initialization
      private void jbInit() throws Exception {
        this.getContentPane().setBackground(Color.white);
        this.setSize(new Dimension(400,300));
        jPanel1.setLayout(gridBagLayout1);
        jPanel2.setBackground(Color.white);
        this.getContentPane().add(jPanel1, BorderLayout.CENTER);
        jPanel1.add(jPanel2,  new GridBagConstraints(0, 0, 1, 1, 1.0, 1.0
                ,GridBagConstraints.CENTER, GridBagConstraints.BOTH, new Insets(72, 82, 81, 100), 208, 137));
        jPanel2.addMouseListener(this);
        File f = new File("/home/***/myimage.gif");
        try {
          bufi = ImageIO.read(f);
        } catch (IOException ioe){
          System.out.println("IO Error");
      public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent me) {
        //Add image to JPanel2
         JLabel showWorld = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(bufi));
        jPanel2.add(showWorld);
        jPanel2.setVisible(true);
        System.out.println("Click!");
      public void mousePressed(MouseEvent me) {
      public void mouseExited(MouseEvent me) {
      public void mouseEntered(MouseEvent me) {
      public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent me) {
      //Get Applet information
      public String getAppletInfo() {
        return "Applet Information";
      //Get parameter info
      public String[][] getParameterInfo() {
        return null;
      //static initializer for setting look & feel
      static {
        try {
          //UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName());
          //UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getCrossPlatformLookAndFeelClassName());
        catch(Exception e) {
    }

    In the event loop (handling the mouse click) redrawing is not done.
    You could try to add a showWorld.repaint(100L); for a later repaint.
    A more general solution is SwingUtilities.invokeLater(...);; for that better read the javadoc.

  • Really need to show an image in this applet...

    Hi,
    I need to display an image in my applet as a sort of "Start Screen" like you get on games.
    But I'm damned if I can get it to work, my tutor provided the unifinished shell of a program, and it seems that I need to display this image before any... panels.. or whatever it is... are initiated. So I could either create a new one, just to show this image, then make it go away when the image does, or, have it popup as part of a message box, or something.
    I stumbled on a splash screen feature, found in Java 1.6, but although I'm using 1.6, my university still uses 1.5, so it's a no go.
    Ideally, it would be a popup window I think, more like a fancy about box than a title screen. But I don't know how to do that either, so any help would be greatly appreciated ^^
    Thanks

    Look into addNotify() and MediaTracker.

  • What software besides iGlasses can reverse the mirror image in iChat?

    I'm trying to use iChat to stream video of multiple animators and artists around the country looking at each others drawings, instructions, & messages and settings on their computer screens. The iSight cam's mirrored image produces everything backwards - eCamm.com's software, iGlasses, thankfully, reverses the mirror image making it possible for our artists to read each other's instructions. Unfortunately, the iSight cam's quality is not good enough to read the small type on their computer screens. We can use more expensive video camera's with firewire connections, but iGlasses isn't compatible. Is there any other software we can use besides iChat so we can read each others screens and data using more expensive cams and not having to read everything backwards? Probably a unique need but any help much appreciated.
    Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Thanks, Bill. This is a very cool alternative that I never knew about. We'll try it out for sure. We're also trying Apple Remote Access and other VNC software to acccess the various computer screens, as hosts and clients, but so far haven't succeeded. • • Also, we need to see video streams of the artists drawing on paper while they're drawing. So we still need a high quality video conference set up for fine detail. Again, Thanks!

  • Why does my Iphone 3gs show "other" taking up almost 40% of my memory?

    My Iphone 3gs shows I have only 400mb of available memory, when I have only about 30 apps, and none are really all that large.  Also, I have no videos nor no music.  It is 8GB.
    Can anyone help?

    Delete the content that is filling it up. Text messages, iMessages, SMS, emails, Safari Cache; essentially all data for all of the built in apps. If that doesn't clear it up, which if it says it's 8GB I don't think it will, then restoring from a backup or restoring to factory default settings will clear that up.
