My iPhone 3G USB Connector is Torn!

There is a small tear on the dock connector end of my iPhone 3G cord. A few days after i got my iPhone, i noticed a bulge in the cord just past the thick part on the end that connects to the phone. In a couple weeks this bulge has turned into a hole or a tear in the rubber. I'm going to take it back to the Apple store tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced this?

this cord wasn't messed up when i got it. repeated stress caused by the cord bending the same way over and over again made it tear. i wasn't abusing it or doing anything that you would think could hurt it. i think the repetitive bending occurred while I was charging my iPhone and using it at the same time. what I'm worried about is that the rubber used to make these things is weak. after months of use will they all inevitably start tearing like mine? im sitting here comparing the rubber in my MacBook's magsafe cord and the iPhone cord. the magsafe rubber is much more durable. the iPhone cord is soft and pliable.

  • My iPhone 4S went into lock-up with a screen display image of USB connector pointing to iTunes logo. I took it to a Verizon store and they said I have a brick lock and that only an Apple retail store 50 miles away could clear it

My iPhone 4S went into lockup with a screen displaying an image of the USB connector pointing to the iTunes logo. I was traveling and took the phone to the closest Verizon store. The store informed me that I had a brick lock and that only an Apple retail store could unlock the phone. The Verizon store explained that they have seen this problem with SEVERAL other 4S users who had upgraded to the new iOS7 operating system and that to their knowledge it is too demanding to work on pre-iPhone 5S phones having a far less capable processor. The closest Apple store was 50 miles away in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. I went to that store three days later (today) to reset the phone before flying out of Philadelphia Intl. Airport. The Apple store personnel were overloaded and not sensitive to my plight. They told me that I would have to make a reservation for a time 2 hours later for tech support. I couldn't do that without missing my flight - out of luck until I get back to Los Angeles. If the Verizon store explanation is true, Apple needs to accommodate 4S and earlier generation users and not force them to upgrade to a $459 iPhone 5S!

The salesperson at Verizon has no clue what their saying.
My 4S and many of my friends works perfectly fine on IOS 7.3, no issue as all.

  • HT4623 on upgrading iPhone 4 to ios 6 using itunes it returned an unknown error then froze completely.  It has the iTunes and USB connector on the screen.  Reset is not working, I get the same frozen screen.

On upgrading iPhone 4 to ios 6 using iTunes, it returned an unknown error then froze completely with the iTunes icon and USB connector on the screen.  Reset didn't work.  iTunes doesn't recognize the devise anymore.

if your computer is not recognizing it, try using a different USB port or different usb cable. if that doesnt work you will need to uninstall and reinstall itunes.

iPhone 4 frozen with screen image of usb connector with arrow to iTunes logo.  iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone message says in recovery mode must restore.  Try to restore and get - 1 error.  What do I do now??

    Hi there beee19,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Check USB connections
    Related errors: 13, 14, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response,” and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.

  • IPhone displays a USB connector image and asks to be connected to iTunes?

    Hi
On three occasions now when I have turned my iPhone on it has displayed a USB connector image on screen and asks to be connected to itunes? If I turn it off and then on again it works normally but I get a message "iPhone activated".
Is this something I am doing wrong or is this a 'glitch'?
    Phil Tyler

I think it is a glitch of some sort. That happens to me every once in a while and it goes away after I reboot my phone.. I have 2.1 still on my phone.. Hope this helps.

  • How to Output Digital Audio to Male Mini USB Connector?

I would like to input digital audio from my iPhone 5 to my headphone DAC/amplifier. The latter has a mini USB female connector for digital signal input. I envisage the following options, listed in the order of preference:
    1. A cable with a male Lightning connector to a male Mini USB connector. This would be the most elegant solution but does such a cable exist?
    2. Apple Lighting to female Micro USB adapter plus a male Micro USB to male Mini USB cable. Does this pass audio?
    3. Apple Lightning to male USB connector (the cable which came with the phone) plus a female USB to male Mini USB connector. This should work technically because the Apple stock cable does output audio from the phone to my car audio system.
    4. Any other ideas?
Which of the above options would be best to send digital audio from my iPhone 5 to my headphone DAC/amplifier? Thank you.

I believe you are not correct. You likely have not read my question entirely because I said that:
"This should work technically because Apple stock cable does output audio from the phone to my car audio system".
In other words, I connect my iPhone 5 using the supplied Lightning charging cable to the USB input of the car audio system and the music plays just fine.
However, I need a cable that has a Mini USB male connector, not a regular USB connector. Is there such a thing, or should I go with Options 2 or 3?
    Thanks.

  • My iPod display shows an iTunes icon and a USB connector. I cannot get anything to start or charge. What next?

My son's iPod Touch is displaying the iTunes icon and a USB connector image. He cannot charge or connect. We have tried a different USB cord. We have tried  reset his iPod. No luck. Any suggestions?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPhone adaptor/USB

Did anyone had a problem with the adaptor/usb cord?  My adaptor is stuck and will not come out of my laptop!!!  Never did I have this problem.  I had iPod classic, iTouch & Nano and did not have problems with the usb cord. I took my laptop to Apple store and all t anhey said was we can't help you because I have a PC and not MAC.    Mind you, the usb cord should work with PC or Mac.  They can't help me because they will be liable if my computer break.  They try pluging another usb cord in the other usb port and it almost got stuck on a different usb port.  What is going on???  Was the usb end of the adaptor redesigned too?
The usb still stuck and I end up buying another usb cord and not dare plug on my Acer laptop.  Any suggestions????
    Thank you.

Do you have a very thin piece of plastic that you can use on top or bottom of the USB connector?  Use something that you can hold securely such that you don't get anything else stuck, and such that you can move the "tool" freely about until you can release the USB connector.  Some folks have had to take their laptop or notebook computer attached to their iPhone Cable into the Apple Store.  As of yesterday, or carrier did not have any replacement Lightning to USB cables, however I did receive my purchased extra cable from the Apple Store on Monday of this week.

  • Is there any differences between a iPod nano 1st gen usb cable and a iPhone 3G  usb cable? thanks

Is there any differences between a iPod nano 1st gen usb cable and a iPhone 3G  usb cable? thanks

Yes you have a one year warranty from the date of purchase from Apple. Go to this link and on the bottom right hand side it will ask you to enter your serial number and will tell you if you are still under warranty. http://www.apple.com/support/
If you are you can take it to a Apple store, or request service online here http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
If it is out of warranty you can google a third party service provider and get it serviced out of warranty. There are two that I know of that provide free diagnostic service. You only pay for shipping and they will tell you what is wrong and what it will cost to fix. They are ifixipodsfast.com and ipodmods.com but there are others also (I just have no experience with them) Good luck and as was stated it should charge from your usb. and just for grins, look at the docking connector on your ipod and see if there is any obstruction that is obvious.

  • Frozen iPhone in USB ****

My attempt to upgrade my 3G iPhone went very badly. During the download my USB hub reported that the iPhone was drawing excessive power. I disconnected it and plugged it into a different (non-hub) port. iTunes recognized it and prepared the phone for the download. Now all the phone does is to display a picture of a USB connector on the front, and the computer won't recognize it. If I plug it into another USB port, the system looks for a driver (which it can't find). I've tried rebooting and reloading iTunes. What next ... role up my sleeves and crawl into the registry? Is there at least some way to restore the phone while I sort out the USB problem?

The iPhone presents a different USB ID in recovery mode than it does in normal operation. The USB hub overload that occured during the upgrade caused the computer lose its ability to recognize the recovery mode ID. I was able to verify this by plugging another iPhone into this computer (the normal USB ID of which was recognized) and plugging this iPhone into a different computer to complete the upgrade (which proceeded normally). Until I resolve the underlying problem in the Windows Registry, I'm not going to be able to use the original computer to apply any further upgrades. I haven't tried syncing the iPhone with the original computer yet, and I'm not sure how well that is going to go.
Although this is a Windows problem, I have to fault Apple for the behavior of the iPhone. The current consumed by the iPhone shouldn't exceed the capacity of a powered USB hub. They should at least provide a separate recovery-mode USB driver file that those of us stuck in this situation can use to recover. In the mean time, does anyone know how to search the Windows Registry for the key associated with the iPhone in recovery mode, and how to clear it?
