First of all im from Estonia so im sorry about my bad english. The thing is that i wanted to sell my iphone 3gs, but when i erased all content and settings my battery went so low it shut down. I having the same issue about the and iTunes says "The iPhone cannot be restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.". I've had the iPhone 3GS since it came out. It was working fine until I just tried to update it. It has never been hacked or jailbroken. We and a few others are having the same issue then it is more than likely that this is an update issue. I took mine to the Apple store and the tech tried to update it and he came to the same problem and told me he couldn't update it. My assumption is that we are not the only one's with this issue and that if there was a way to update it to the update before this last one it might be a solution. I don't know how to get the previous update. Apple probably is aware of the problem, and hasn't come up with a solution yet. Or, enough people haven't complained yet. The tech suggested that there might be something wrong with the phone itself, but that couldn't be since it was working perfectly before I updated it and others are having the same issue. It is highly unlikely that a lot of people are not having the same hardware issue all of a sudden at the same time.

I have an problem in my iphone 3GS. It couldn't boot up to lockscreen and always stuck in apple logo but it able to sync to the itunes. I try many times in restoring to latest firmware 4.3.5 in DFU and recovery mode and also uses different PC, the problem still not resolved. Anyone can advise?

I would try forcing into recovery mode and then restoring again to see if this helps. If not then it would need to be serviced by repair or replacing the device which will not be covered under the warranty due to the liquid.

Resolution
Follow the appropriate steps for the symptom you're experiencing.
If the device is unresponsive or certain controls aren't working as expected, try restarting
To turn off the device, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Slide your finger across the slider to turn off the device.
To turn on the device, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), try resetting Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds. If there is no video, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on
Ensure the iPhone is connected to the Power Adapter it came with.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.

Tried to reset iPhone, but screen is frozen at Apple logo. Repeated attempts to reset unsuccessful.

See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

In trying to include what information all that I could I should have specified I DON'T KNOW THAT IT WAS DEFINATELY JAILBROKEN when I took it to the apple store they told me there's no way for them to tell if it was jail broken or not. I'm only going by what ppl have told me COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO THE PHONE. With that said the only thing I know for sure is that the apple tech at the Genius Bar told me that someone took control of my root menu in February & I've had no control of my phone since. I asked him how to regain control & how he knew his exact words were "oh that is out of our scope of capabilities here at this level & you would need an apple engineer to fix it". I said ok then how do I get an apple eng then? He laughed & said you can't!!!! To which I was furious I came home & called apple requesting to speak w/the fraud dept to file a report they said we don't have a fraud dept!! So after a 45 mn phone call again I left w/no answers.

I DON'T HAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO SPEND HIRING AN ATTORNEY & Although I appreciate your suggestion I fail to how an attorney would be able to facilitate in any way since there's no suspect. I cannot prove that it's him doing it so I certainly can't pursue legal action w/no proof & no money. :'((

I was looking more for a TECHNICAL way to avoid this happening w/a new phone should I buy one or trying to get them out of my phone now! Such as installing some kind of software protection?? Someway to clear out the entire phone (other than factory reset which was done 10 x's w/no success, etc. if this person got in then there HAS TO BE A WAY OF GETTING HIM OUT, right????

I have done lots of reading on th einternet ref this, i have now got as far as the Safe mode reboot, Boot the Iphone up in Safe mode, but now iTunes ask if i want to restore the iphone back to factory setting, which i want to do Please!!!!
as soon as it starts it then checks for any new software for the phone, at this stage it others me the new os5 software, but it drops out saying error 3194 again, it just keeps going around in a loop.

I have reset the phone, full firmware restore, even downgraded back from firmware 4.2.1 to .3.1.3 official by using dfu mode and still doesnt fix.
(i correctly got out of dfu mode after the downgrade)
i can enter dfu mode and recovery, and update through itunes with no problem, but it doesnt fix the problem,
i have searched and found no answer to this problem, every option availible to try that i know of i have tried and failed. i dont care about preserving my content i just want a fix. i have a good understanding how to operate software on a computer and shouldnt be too confused by any advice given, so plz even if the answer is very complex i wish to try anything, please help me to get my iphone working.

Unknown "source"? Do you mean unknown "error" followed by a number?

Follow the instructions in the article. When you connect your phone again, you may have to press both the home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo reappears, then continue pressing the home button until iTunes detects the phone in recovery mode.

I run both Mac and a PC and have iTunes on both, which has previously recognised my iPhone. I had updated my Mac with the new iTunes software with iCloud and updated my iPad2 just yesterday. I then wanted to do the same with my iPhone today, but my Mac wouldn't recognise the device so I tried it on my PC, which recognised the phone but told me I needed to update my iTunes and this in turn wanted to update my iPhone software. After completing all this and restarting, my iPhone now shows the iTunes icon with the USB plug pointing towards it, obviously wanting me to plug it in to my computer to re-connect with iTunes, but now neither of my computers recognise my iPhone and my PC states an 'Unknown Device'. My Mac doesn't even see it. Can anyone help as I really need to get my phone working?? Thanks

How do I setup my son's Iphone 3gs to hit my apple itunes store acct when he needs to buy music? Right now when he is trying to purchase from Itunes it is defaulting to his apple ID which is his gmail account. I've looked through settings but when I get to where I can change it to my apple id it prompts for a new password including a number. My apple id does not have a number in it. I must be in the wrong place. Help?

To change the Apple ID for purchases, go to Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID show, sign out, sign back in using the ID you want to use.
