My iPhone 3GS has blank screen, won't turn on

I updated to iTunes 9.2 (on Vista); went fine. Backed up iPhone; went fine. Then, attempted to update to new phone OS. It downloaded the whole OS then started the install. In the middle, iTunes displayed an unknown error message telling me it couldn't finish the Update. Now, my phone is black and will not go into DFU mode. I have restarted my computer, done a repair install of iTunes 9.2. Tried all the different USB ports on my computer. Nothing works. Is there any solution?

Also tried completely removing everything Apple (posted from on a similar thread): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Still no DFU.

    Try this First...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

  • Apple iPhone 3GS 8GB Blank Screen While Updating to IOS4.3.3

Hi have iPhone 3GS 8GB. This phone I got as replacement from Apple for my Previous iPhone which got stuck in recovery. This replacement phone was working on IOS 4.2.1.
A few days back Apple has released IOS 4.3.3 and while updating my iPhone via iTunes, there was some error message.
I tried it again and different different errors keep on coming. Now my Phone is totally blank. When I plug the Phone in Computer I can listen to USB Plugin sound coming from computer but nothing is coming on screen. It seems iPhone is stuck in DFU Mode.
Also when I plug the phone in computer iTunes POPs up and says phone is in recovery mode and when I restore the phone error 1600 keeps on coming.
I am 100% sure there is some software issues with the phone as computer responds when I plug in and Plug out the phone (USB Sound). Can any wise person on this Group help me out with the same.
    Regards,
    Anshuman

are you able to see the apps on the home screen? If so, it's most likely an issue with your carrier
This is also an issue that can appear on devices that have been modified in an unauthorized manner (not judging, just saying)

  • IPhone 3GS - out of storage won't turn on.

My iPhone 3GS read that I was running out of storage then shut off and won't turn back on. I think the storage issue was related to iCloud back up and not connecting to wi-fi often enough. Is it not turning on because the storage is full? Is there anything I can do to clear it? I've tried connecting it to my laptop and it will pop up as external storage. I try to delete photos but it usually shuts back off and tries to restart before I can get anything deleted.

In case anyone comes across this and has the same problem, here is how I fixed it.
I plugged the phone into my laptop and turned off iTunes when it opened automatically. When the phone showed up as an external storage device I opened the DCIM folder and deleted photos one at a time. At first, I could only delete one or two before the phone would disconnect and reboot itself. But, after a while I was able to delete more photos each time. Eventually, I began deleting video files because they are larger. Once I got about 120MB or so free, my phone started up. I immediately turned on wi-fi and ran iCloud backup. Then, I cleared more space on the phone and synced it with iTunes.
    So far, so good.

  • IPhone 3GS not responding and won't turn on

    Hi everyone,
my iPhone is just absolutely dead. I was literally using it one second, put it in my pocket and pulled it out again 5 seconds later and the screen wouldn't turn on. It's not just the screen because I've had my friend call it and there is no activity. I have put it on a charger, plugged it to my computer, tried resetting by holding the top button, but nothing happens. I didn't do anything to warrent it dying like this like dropping it or spilling liquid on it. What can I do??
    Thanks,
    Carl

I don't know how, but my phone has started taking a charge for some reason, and it was not by rebooting. I left it over night hooked up to my computer (even though it was asleep) when I turned on my computer this morning the iPhone indicated that it was being charged by the computer, which is the first sign of life I've seen from it since I've had this problem. And as for your solution, I tried rebooting, and it didn't work. Thanks for your help though.

  • IPhone 3GS shows blank screen after OS5 installation

    Hello,
After the installation of the new OS 5 on my 3 GS everything seems to work fine. I am just facing the following problem:
    - When I turn on the iPhone i often see a blank, white screen. The touchpad is not responding. I have to press the ON/OFF button a few times to get the "normal" unlock screen.
    - The same behaviour happend when I received a call. I just saw a white sceen and was not able to awnser the call (no button available).
Has anyone had the same problem?
    Regards,
    Tobias

  • When battery is empty my iphone 3GS shuts down and won't turn on for a day!

Hi, I desperately need your help!
When the battery on my iphone runs out, the device, naturally, turns off. But even though I plug it into my charger - nothing happens; the screen is blank and stays like that for some hours, even a day long. I then, of course, try everything - plug it into different sockets, laptop, try taking out the sim card - anything - just to wake it up somehow, but it doesn't react. Then miraculosly, it starts charging as usual - never on its own, but only when I re-plug it! And then it's as if nothing happened!
Has anyone had this problem? Is there a reasonable explanation or should I reclaim my iphone?
    Thanxxx!

Standard troubleshooting steps in the following order:
    1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off.
    If no change, continue:
    2. Restore your phone from a backup, note: if the problem is related to corrupt data, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
    If no change, continue:
    3. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store.

  • My iPhone is on but screen won't turn on! What do I do?

I Have already tried resetting it by holding down lock button and home button at the same time!

    Hi Jessicagomez97,
If your display is staying black, please check out the Display section of this article:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Display has no backlight or dark screen
Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
If the low-battery screen appears, charge the iPhone.
Note it says to have the iPhone connected to power when trying the reset.

  • Is my iPod dead? (blank screen, won't turn on)

    or can I fix it
So I'm scrolling through to pick out some tunes for the car ride, I plug my 'Pod into a Griffin iTrip (plugs into the car's 9v jack and transmits your music over the radio), and then everything goes wrong. My screen is showing black and then showing the Apple logo. I notice the brightness of the Apple logo is changing, as if electricity is surging unchecked through my iPod so I unplug it, but it is too late. The Apple logo shows for a few more seconds, then nothing. No sign of life.
Attempted resuscitation was unsuccessful (recharge, reset, etc. including everything from Google and the Apple website).
The screen is blank. My computer doesn't recognize the 'Pod when it is plugged in (suggesting it is fried?). Has this happened to anyone before? Any ideas?
    I am sad. Please help.

this is what i'm afraid of, except for 2 things (based on 2 assumptions, which may be totally unfounded):
    1. wouldn't the iPod have died instantly, like a blown fuse?
    2. shouldn't the iPod, an expensive bundle of electronics, have some sort of voltage regulator to prevent this?

  • I dropped my iphone 3gs and the screen has gone blank now showing a white screen with no icons can anyone advise me how to fix it?

I dropped my iphone 3gs and the screen has gone blank now showing a white screen with no icons can anyone advise me how to fix it?

    Tim is correct.
But, first step with 3GS white screen and most iPhone problems is Reset, hold both home and power buttons until iPhone begins to restart itself, usually about 10 seconds of holding both buttons. If still white screen.
Next step would be Restore the iPhone Firmware with iTunes on your computer. If still white screen.
Next step would be to follow Tim's advice, if you had not already.
