My iPhone 3gs locked when I was updating to iOS 6.0.1.

My iPhone 3gs locked when I was updating to iOS 6.0.1.
I begun updating by the iPhone itself, then it asked to connect to iTunes, but at the end  - after tried to restore the firmware it does not restore (id error 29). I've just replaced the battery, there is something linked with this?
Why do I unlocked my iPhone?
Thanks,
Miguel

See if this helps:

How did you replace the battery? Did you take the back off
and replace it yourself?

  • I have an iPhone 3GS and I want to update to iOS 4.2.1.  In my settings I don't even have the ability to "update software."  What should I do?

I have an iPhone 3GS. I want to update to iOS 4.2.1.  In settings, general, I do not have a software update option.  What to do?

You won't see this until you update to iOS 5.  You'll have to update using iTunes by going to the Summary tab of your sync settings and clicking on Check for Update (you will probably be prompted that there is an update available when you connect your phone and open iTunes).

  • Iphone 3gs locked up trying to update to os4

tonight i tried to update my iphone 3gs to the os4 and right before it was finished an error came up and now my iphone is locked with the connect to itunes screen ive tried holding down the power and home buttons forever and nothing is happening, my computer or itunes is not reconizing it when i plug it in. What The French Toast?????? this thing ****** me off, sometimes i wish i wouldve never bought this stupid thing. last time i updtaed i had the same problem but i accidently closed the window before i could see what the error code was

If happened last time too, could be you are not using a USB 2.0 port or using one on a hub which the manual says you should avoid. That or virus protection hosing things up.

HELP GUY I NEED YOUR PROFESSIONAL OPINION

Take it to an Apple Store and have it checked out. You could have a hardware issue there if the SIM is not being recognized.

  • My iPhone 3GS will not activate following update to iOS 6.0.1

    Hi guys,
My mate has just been given a new iPhone 3GS, which is locked to the Vodafone network. He has bought a $2 Vodafone SIM to ensure a smooth transition.
The issue we are having is that following an update of the iPhone to iOS 6, the iPhone would reach a screen where the following error message appears:
"Your iPhone could not be actived because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes. If the problem persists, contact Apple Support at apple.com/support"
I plugged in the phone to iTunes, and received the following error message
"We are unable to continue with your activation at this time. Please try again later, or contact customer care."
I contacted the carrier, Vodafone, and was sent through various stages of the support team who confirmed what I though: I have to restore the iPhone. I completed the restore, and even upgraded the iPhone to iOS 6.0.1 in the process.
Upon the iPhone restoring itself, the exact same problem reoccurred. My mate is pretty confident that the iPhone has not been jailbroken, so I am seeking the support of someone here in Apple who may have some idea.
Can anybody please offer their assistance regarding this issue? From what I've read of the forums, it would appear that this is not an uncommon occurence, so hopefully somebody knows what the issue is.
Looking forward to hearing a response.
    Kris.

LOL! - you poor bugger, Ognyan!
I'm starting to serihously think this phone has been jailbroken... I've got a senior technical support advisor at Apple who is working on the case. He has gone through everything he can possibly think of, but won't take "no" for an answer.
At the moment, he has logged everything with the Engineering Department, who is going to look into it further using the IMEI number and see what they come up with. If worse comes to worse, Apple will apparently replace the phone for a fee. The problem is that it is 800+ days out of warranty...
Anyway, we'll see how we go. If anybody has got any ideas about this, please continue to provide answers. I appreciate all responses

  • IPhone 3Gs: Error (-1) after attemped update to iOS 5

After attempting to update to iOS 5 on my 3Gs, my iphone becomes bricked and enters recovery mode. The update proceeded as normal without issue untill it asked me to for a restore. Now, after every attempt to restore I receive the message: unknown error (-1).
    theiphonewiki.com lists error (-1) as:
"Error occurs when one uses the "last ditch" method for preventing baseband updates on the iPhone 4. The baseband does not get updated using this method. Use TinyUmbrella to kick it out of recovery mode."
My 3Gs is not jailbroken and I am unsure of thrid party software when it comes to my apple devices. Also error (-1) shows to be an error message for the iPhone 4, which is not the case in my situation.
    I have attempted these procedures:
Removed the sim card, attempted recovery without sim card (x1): No change.
Reinstalled the sim card, attempted recovery (x1): No change.
Rebooted computer, attempted recovery (x5): No change.
Switched USB ports, attempted recovery (x4): No change.
Attempted recovery on multipule computers (x6): No change.
Reinstalled iTunes, rebooted, attempted recovery (x1): No change
Has anyone else experienced this issue? If so, has any procedure that I haven't tried worked for you? Any insight or recommendations would be very helpful.
    Thanks in advance!

Here's what fixed it for me. Pretty simple mistake I overlooked.
I turned off the firewall that was running in the back ground through my virus protection control panel. I then proceeded to make another attempt and it finished as it should have. I did loose all my settings, pictures and videos although, I still have the 2 notes I made in the Notes app. I would have gladly sacrificed the measurements I took for the gutters on my house for the pictures I took of my nephew the day he was born. This is a wake up call to import my photos more offten and/or before another update. Win some, loose some I guess. At least I can make phone calls now. >.<
I hope this will work for anyone else having the same issues.
    Good luck!

  • HT4972 i have a iphone 3gs and i want to update my IOS but havent got software update on my settings?

can anyone please help me to update the OIS on my iphone?

The ability to update from the iphone itself is only available with iod 5 and above.
As you have ios 4, you will hae to update as always.
    Turn on computer.
    Open itunes
    Connect iphone
From teh article you linked from:
If you are attempting to update using a Mac or PC with which you normally sync
You may see the following iTunes message:
Follow these recommended steps before updating your iOS device:
    Transfer purchases3 to your computer.
Back up your device by syncing it with your Mac or PC first."

  • I have the iphone 3GS and when I recently updated the software to 5.0, the phone has been slower and is messing up now, how do I fix this?

I have synced it several times and nothing changes. I'm afraid to restore it because last time it deleted everything on there, even when I updated it, Everything was deleted and I always back it up. But now the internet is slow and it just loads and loads and it froze a one point, I've turned it off then back on, still nothing.

There are several ways to get iOS on your phone.
In iOS 5.0+, go to Settings<General<Software Update
Connect your phone to iTunes and select "Check for Update". It should prompt you for 5.1
Google for a direct copy of iOS 5.1 for your phone and download it to your computer (it is downloaded from Apple servers, so don't worry about voiding warranty). Restore your phone as normal and hold down Shift (Windows) or Alt (Mac) when clicking restore to specifiy which iOS build you're putting on your phone. You would want to use the 5.1 file you downloaded)
Can you specify the error given?

  • I have an unlocked iPhone 3GS and ever since I updated to iOs 6 I can't send/receive MMS

This is absolutely about to make me have to leave iphone if I can't figure this out. I can recieve picture messages when im in iMessage but is useless for people without iPhones. I can't recieve any media messages out of iMessage just texts. This problem first started occuring when I updated, never had any problems before.

I am having the same problem but cannot get anything but the actual phone to work.  I have a unlocked 3GS running 6.0 (what was I thinking?).  No data whatsoever, no texting, no visual voicemail.  I simply cannot access the APN settings.  I have tried sim swap, I have tried APN changers.  I have been on the phone with ST tech support for hours and hours.  I have tried to get the answers from a "genius".  I am stuck and looking at Android devices, but would really like to keep using the iphone with Straight Talk.
