My iphone 3gs will not connect to itunes and it says that I need to do a system restore. It also says that I need to enter my password on the iphone to connect to itunes but I can not do this because the phone is in emergency phone call mode only.
Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.
Unfortunately, the data on your phone is already gone if you're seeing the connect to iTunes logo. -

DeanoHi gofroggy08,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
It's possible that the iTunes software didn't update properly. Try the specific steps below for the iPhone first:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If the issue is not resolved, you may need to uninstall iTunes and all of it's components, and reinstall the latest version as explained in this article:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
I hope this information helps ....

How do I get a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS out of (connect to iTunes) mode?
How do I get a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS out of recovery (connect to itunes) mode?
Once the iPhone 3GS is in DFU mode and plugged into iTunes, the restore and update process begins. The restores process are as followed:
Extracting software > Preparing iPhone for restore (blank screen) > Preparing iPhone software for restore > Restoring iPhone software > Verifying iPhone restore > Restoring iPhone firmware > The iPhone cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (1).
I clicked on the more information tab and was taken to a website with some troubleshooting. I did what they suggested (based on the error #) and still no luck. I’ve tried to restore and update about 10 times now but the same message keeps coming up at the end. What should I do now?
P.S: I have the latest version of iTunes (11), my windows is up to date etc ...CDiiva wrote:

This Error message is indicative of a Hardware issue. The device may need Service. -
IPhone 3GS stuck on "connect to itunes" screen
I've just reset my old iPhone 3GS so that I can use it as a PAYG phone for my dad. It cleared everything down ok and set itself up as a new clean iPhone install with the PAYG sim card and worked fine. In iTunes I logged in to an account I set up for him and all was good - it found the phone, recognised it as my old one and gave me the option to set it up as a new one which I did, again all fine.
Then I went to update the iOS to the latest version, but after it tried to to install it there was an error and the iPhone is now stuck on the "connect to itunes" screen. However, neither iTunes nor my PC will recognise the phone for me to restore it or do anything else with it. I've tried the holding down the home button whilst connecting it to USB idea but no luck.
Any tips?Sorry, I can't remember what the error was, I don't remember there being an error number. It was along the lines that iTunes had been unable to update the OS. I only noticed that the iphone had frozen after clicking OK.
The phone is stuck on the "connect to iTunes" screen. Even trying the restore options above, I don't get a red swipe and trying the alternatives still doesn't help. I've rebooted my computer and you can hear the USB recognising it's got a new item plugged in, but iTunes still won't find it. -
Iphone 3gs stuck on connect to Itunes screen. HELP
Hello. Okay well I just bought an Iphone 3gs from a woman on Craig's list. She told me the phone was working perfectly fine. And when I tested it out, it was.
HERE'S THE PROBLEM
I got the phone home and while looking through it to make sure it was totally empty it shut off and now will not turn back on. The only screen it goes to it the connect to Itunes screen. I have tried to restore the phone many many times. I get error 28, 29, or 2009 every single time. I have read at least 50 post and other people's fixes for this and nothing has worked. My question is does anyone know if there is a way to get this phone to work again or should I sell it on Ebay for parts? Any thoughts would be very appreciated. Thanks.Try recovery mode > iOS: Unable to update or restore
I have read at least 50 post and other people's fixes for this and nothing has worked.
That doesn't give us much to go on since we have no way of knowing what you have tried that didn't work. -
Iphone 3gs won't connect to itunes
I've tried everything, but my iphone won't connect to itunes. Does anyone have some advice? I'm desperate right now.
If you computer recognizes your iPhone but iTunes doesnt try uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes. If your computer doesnt recognize your iPhone try a different cable and different USB ports, if it still doesnt connect try connecting your 3GS to another computer. If it connects to another computer fine then their is something wrong with the usb ports on your computer.

Iphone 3gs reboots when connected to itunes
Hi Guys,
I was on ios 4.3.3, i decided to update to 6.1, after installing the phone reboots and gives me the welcome screen, setup your phone etc.
After entering country, wifi details it then prompts me to connect to itunes, when i do this, itunes sees the iphone but has a swirling circle next to it where its trying to connect, the phone then restarts and all this happens again, and again, and again....
Any ideas?
i've attempted a restore in DFU mode and normal, same result.duh.... my bad.
someone suggested I select it and give it a name... which I did and it worked.

IPhone 3gs can't connect to itunes
I got my Iphone on last Thursday n I still failed to connect it to the itunes. Today I tried it again, itunes got no response. Later it showed "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800006B)" What was that mean?
This usually happens if the phone has been Hacked / Jailbroken / Modified...
Unauthorized modification of iOS

If this is the case...You will need to look elsewhere
Sorry... But...

I actually have the phone now in recovery mode, it's got the screen up, and I have it plugged in, and nothing's happening. I know the cable isn't screwed, because I use it to charge all the time.

Received an authorized unlock code from apple/AT&T for my off-contract 3GS (8GB). Per the “Completing Authorized iPhone Unlock” instructions, I connected to iTunes to back up and restore so my iPhone can be unlocked! But after the restore my iPhone is stuck at the activation screen, it will not activate saying “Your iPhone cannot be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable”. I tried this again and again for countless times, no way! I have my old AT&T simcard and other carrier’s simcard. Both will not help. Please help me to activate and start using my phone.
Hello,
I got like the same problem, last days I get message to restore my iPhone, so I did it yesterday and it work very well. In the afternoon I saw that at top in the left corner show invaild sim card or so (only knew the german version). so I restore it again but now it won`t activate after I enter SIM-PIN and it accept it, it shows "No Service".
