Every time i connect it to itunes all it says is "There is no SIM card installed in the iphone you are attempting to activate." Even thought there is a sim card connected in my phone.

Is the SIM from a supported carrier?
Is the device carrier locked, officially unlocked, or hacked to be unlocked?
Has the SIM been reseated? If not, try that.
Also, basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore. Has any of that been tried?

I am also on my forth hard drive on the same model.
When I unpacked the computer, the hard drive did not include OS X either. Actually, it was completely blank. Did not even have a partition table! I have also had random problems with the machine not charging.
I have replaced the drive myself with an SSD after figuring the Apple Certified technicians were incompetent. Now even the SSD is starting to fail

That and when I plug the shuffle in to the comp iTunes doesn't reconize that the shuffle is pluged in.

I'm having the same problem! My good-for-nothing brother has formatted iPod shuffle through "My Computer" and now it won't work. Neither iTunes nor iPod software updater recognise the thing. Today I updated my stock iphone 3gs to IOS 5.01 from 4.3.5. All went well until I noticed that my apps had not be restored. I attempted to restore my phone in iTunes but now all I get is "There is a problem with your iphone" message appear in iTunes and on my device.
What can I do to restore the phone to working condition? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

IPhone 3gs upgrades to ios 5 and now crashed

I have spent the whole day upgrading the families iphones, ipods and ipad. The 32gb iphone 3gs has now crashed and is stuck in a loop of shwoing the Apple logo, then goes into the connect to itunes screen adn then back ot the apple logo. It will not power off, will not hard or soft reset and will not go into recovery mode.
I have trried all resets by being both connected to itunes and not. I have installed all latest itunes. I am using windows 7. I have also tried on another computer using viats, but no difference.
What now?

Yes, you will be able to use it provided that the 16GB version of 3GS is either factory unlocked or locked to AT&T network (in case of a carrier locked phone).

Itunes closed after iphone restore and now wont open..what to do???

i was having some problems out of my iphone and had no choice but to do a "system restore" on my iphone 3G. As soon as the restore was done itunes closed and now it will not open. i have tried shuttin down and restarting my computer. I dont want to uninstall itunes because when my iphone restored it erased everything out of my phone and i need to put contacts pictures etc. back onto my phone because thats where i backed it up at!!! someone please help me!!! what do i do?!

Sounds like your iPhone was previously hacked/modified/jailbroken and the
update relocked it to the original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that
wireless carrier can unlock it.
Where did you get this iPhone?
What wireless carrier are you attempting to use it with?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?

Possible causes:
1. Your antivirus is blocking access to gs.apple.com.
2. Your phone is jailbroken.
3. Your computer has been used at some time in the past to jaibreak some iOS device (not necessarily the phone with the problem), and its network database was corrupted by the hacking software that was used.
4. Apple's activation servers are down (very rare, and never for more than an hour or so).
For 1. try disabling your antivirus.
For 2. & 3. you need to go somewhere other than an apple forum for help. Although you can try deleting lines containing gs.apple.com from your "hosts" file on your computer.

My iphone cut off while using itunes and now it wont work. it cuts on and off and it wont restore.

If I downloaded a free app in the past(iphone), lost everything in a restore, and now that free app isn't free anymore, if i try and re-download it, will it be free, or will I have to pay whatever price the app is now?

Lost it all in the restore, have been redownloading the ones I bought just fine.. it's the ones I snagged when they were free I am worried about. Will it prompt me that I have already "purchased" this before.. or will it just go ahead and assume I am buying it if I click "buy". Can I go into itunes and into the purchase history and download all the apps that are there and even though the ones i got when they were free cost money...will they download for free?? Can't find any info on this anywhere, thanks a bunch!!!!

If you Go to the app store on your phone, then go to updates you should have a purchased icon at the top.
Click on that and it will show the apps you have downloaded before as they are stored on the icloud.
Then you should be able to click on the app and redownload it, not sure if it will charge but its worth a try.

The phone was hacked to unlock it form the original carrier it was locked to. When you upgraded the iOS the phone relocked to the orginal carrier. You now need a sim card from the carrier to which it has locked to activate the phone and hten it can only be used with that carrier. If you do not know the carrier then you no longer have a phone, you have a brick
