My iPhone 3GS vibrates when I put the silent switch in ring mode.
What I remember the silent switch doing is when I put it in silent mode, an indicator icon would show on the screen indicating that sound is off and the phone would also vibrate.
Now, the indicator icons are still correct (no sound in silent mode, sound in ring mode), but the vibrating is switched. It vibrates when I put it in ring mode and doesn't when I put it in silent mode.
Nope, not jailbreak. On 4.3.3 firmware also.
Problem was in settings; vibrate on silent was turned off. Turned it back on and problem is fixed.

my iPhone 4 ring will not work - it just vibrates. When I toggle the silent switch no bell comes up. Have restored.
Dude you have a jailbroken phone as stated in your first post, no need to do a second post.
As per the forum term of service you can't get help here. Use google.

IPhone 3GS vibrates when touched when in vibrate mode?
If i touch the screen when my iPhone 3GS is on vibrate , it vibrates everytime! Do i take it into apple ? Or is there an easy solution?
Cannot return it because when it first happened I panicked about losing all the data on the phone and disassembled it to disconnect the battery and hopefully reset whatever mode it was stuck in, which didn't help. I don't really care that much about getting it replaced because the new iPhone is coming out soon enough, just want to know if there's anything I can do to make this 3GS reliable again until then.

My Contracted SIM is for an android phone, but when i put the sim in an iphone my 3g no longer works?.. Is it because my 3g is only active on the android os and not the ios platform? Texts, Calls and Wifi work fine but the 3g doesn't work. My phone only shows 'GPRS' in the top left corner. Also I get a message come up saying "Could not activate mobile data network. You are not subscribed to a mobile data service".

I have tried to restore my old iPhone 3, but when i tried the itunes logo and a pic of a USB cable have come up on my phone and now i cant do anything with my phone.Any ideas how i can fix this? Iphone 3GS- How do you get the pictures to show up larger when someone calls? I know this seems trivial but I have difficulty seeing, so one of the reasons I actually purchased this phone was for this feature. When the photos do come up they come up in the top right corner in small boxes / windows. I already google'd this topic and they suggested importing the photos - to itunes and than directly on to the iphone, I did this and it didn't work. Additionally I took a few test photos from the iphone and tried setting them to contacts. This didnt work either. I looked in settings and could not find anything that discussed this issue. Although I do believe I have seen iphones that ring with large pictures. Am i Crazy?
You aren't crazy.
Adding the photo to contacts on the computer gets you the smaller pix when people call.
Assign the photo on the phone itself and you get full-size pix.
Additionally I took a few test photos from the iphone and tried setting them to contacts. This didnt work either.
So, that certainly should work. Try it again? Try it with a brand new contact, maybe it is not overwriting a previously existing picture.
I suppose there is a small possibility that Apple thought this differing behavior was a bug instead of a feature and "fixed" it with a recent update, but I doubt it. -
My iPhone has a protective cover on it and I carry it in my pocket a lot. Quite often when I take it out of my pocket the silent/ring switch is off and I am sure it was on when I put the phone in my pocket. How can this be happening?
Protective cover as in screen protector? This would have nothing to do with the silent switch.
If you're referring to an actual case though... take the case off and see if the problem continues.
It may be as simple as the silent switch being lose, which will require a device replacement to resolve. -
I bought an IPhone 3gs and tried to reset the APN through Strait Talk Wireless but when I click on settings then "General" tab they tell me to click on the "Network" tab but there is not a "Network" tab? After Network, I was supposed to go to Cellular Data Settings but I can't find the Network tab under the General tab. I watched videos and every IPhone I saw had the Network tab but mine don't, can anyone please help this old man fix this new technology, so I can use the Internes and MSM?Thanks, jerry b <><

Just to make sure... you have the phone in ringer mode right? Sometimes the switch on the side gets bumped (especially if you don't have a case on the iPhone) and goes into silent. If you see a orange line on the switch - it's on silent.
If the switch is fine (and isn't loose or anything) try restoring the iPhone in iTunes. -

I too have a BBCurve 8520 and I am also experiencing the same problem; it is driving me MAD! I have tried the given solutions provided in this string to no avail. It STILL changes profiles to vibrate on its own. HOWEVER (and do let me know if it's just me going insane...) I have noticed two things:
I put the face of the phone inward, so the battery cover is facing outside the holster; in this way:
1- SOMETIMES, if I put the bottom part of the phone (the where the keyboard is) in the holster FIRST, then the top part (where the screen is), the phone does go into vibrate mode. If I do it evently, it will not. Doesn't always work, though.
2- If I put the phone in QUICKLY, it will not go into vibrate mode. If I do it slowly, chances are, it will.
Maybe I'm already insane, but this situation is certainly driving me absolutely MAD!
I sure wish there was a setting to keep it on "normal" ALL THE TIME, EVEN WHEN IN THE HOLSTER. PLEASE, post a solution?
