I've only had my phone for about 2 weeks and hoped the last two updates would fix the problem, I can't stand the face-mute, face-hold anymore

If you have a case on the iphone, remove and see if that helps.
If reset, restore do not solve, then make an appointment at the genius bar or call Apple Support to arrange for a replacement.

I´am experiencieng a problem that many other iphone users may either.
The proximity sensor doesn´t work. When i answer a phone call, the display doesn´t turn off, and everytime i keep dialing numbers, endind calls and a lot of other little things that are getting on my nerves.
It seems apple couldn´r care less for those problems we are having, and nothing has been told or done. Thats good for us to see how much apple is concerned with customers.
Anyway, is there a way to fix this annoying thing???

this could be a few reasons,
1. try and update the device to the latest firmware via itunes, to check you on are on 4.3 go to settings>general>about and under version, if is lower than 4.3, update the device
2. if this fails remove any cases or screen protecters (silly, i know) that may block the sensor
3. if that fails, take to the nearest apple store, and describe your problem, they will either replace a=or repair

Try removing your case. If still an issue, take it in to Apple. You have a 1 year warranty.

Proximity sensor doesn't work correctly after 4.3 update

The proximity sensor disables the screen when I place the phone near my face when in a call, that's fine.
However, it never re-enables it when I move it away. This happened prior to the 4.3 update, however I could press the home button and it would light the screen up.
That doesn't happen anymore, so I can not hang up a phone call once the screen goes off.
This is a major defect

I have the same issue with a 2 month old Galaxy S4 and I noticed it after the last push from Verizon whihc may have been the 4.3 update. Proximity sensor won't light up the screen again when you move it away from your face. Verizon told me to do a factory reset, Samsung told me to do a soft reset then clear the cache. Did all and still have same problem. Had a call yesterday and person on other end did not hang up so I had no way to hand up on my end. Am turning off the proximity senson durring calls for now but it will use up more of the battery with the screen lit more. They need to fist it.

N97 Proximity Sensor doesn't work quite as well?

I just recently updated my phone and it seems like the switch from portrait and landscape doesn't work quite as well. The angle at which I have to put it on landscape is steeper and it's really annoying. Anyone else have this problem?
edit: I know the firmware went through coz the lock bug isn't there anymore. but when I connect via USB it still tells me "charging" . Just saying

hey there, what you are referring to isn't the proximity sensor lol. the proximity sensor is basically used to detect when your face is close enough to the phone (i.e. when pressing your ear against earpiece), so that the display switches off to stop accidental presses of the screen, and to conserve power by turning the backlight off. anyways what you are referring to are the sensor settings for the accelerometer in your phone. i don't have a N97 so can't vouch for what you're saying, although it may not exactly be a bug, rather a tweak of the accelerometer settings. from memory, the N97 charges via USB, does it not? this behaviour will be automatic upon plugging the cable into your PC. i doubt that there is an option to turn it off, though i am not exactly 100% sure about this. this behaviour may be changed in future firmware updates or it may not, as the phone relies on USB charging as its sole charging method. but its not really a bug as such.

My proximity sensor doesn't work after call waiting

My proximity sensor works fine during calls. Until someone calls in while I'm on the call. Whether I answer or not, when I pull it away from my face it activates the screen as it should, but it never turns it back off when I continue the conversation. This ONLY happens with call waiting. once i press on the home button and unlock the phone it works fine, knowing that i had a replacement for the phone for the same fault and now and i don't know what to do as my brother's phone is exactly the same however it works fine.
I have an iPhone 6 running 8.2

The sensor it self works just fine, I checked them via internal check + few external apps.I already reseted my phone to factory settings. Hi, I have the same problem, proximity sensor not working. My phone is in mint condition, not even scratches. This happened just after the latest update, every time I get a call the screen won't turn off. I followed the repair instructions using the PC Companion Software, I errased all the data and restored the phone. I still have the same problem, I tried Safe Mode and the problem remains. I emailed support and they said I can't go back to the previous software version that actually worked just fine. Is very frustrating to run out of options on a "High End" product from sony. I used to love this phone and even convinced some friends to buy it. Now every time I need to make a call I just want to throw it against the wall. I had the same problem. Kept getting message of waiting for activation or check network connections. I also tried every solution out there and nothing worked. This did though: I download the newest version of itunes (through Internet Explorer - Google Chrome wouldn't work). It pulled in my entire library thank goodness and then I plugged my iphone 4s into the computer. I let itunes find it, did a complete backup in icloud, then did a restore. Entire process took a couple of hours, but I now have imessage and facetime back. I was about ready to give up on Apple and go get a different phone ~

Yes, I'm fully aware of the numerous threads about this issue. However, I want to share my experience as I may stumbled onto something new.
Long story short, I've purchased about 7 white iphone 4's for my company and found that the proximity sensor did NOT work for some of them once the PureGear screen protector was applied (which was purchased at a Verizon store).
Now here's the interesting part...for the ones that it DID work for (about 3 or 4), they worked fine. However for these units only, if pressure was applied to the top left hand corner of the unit (basically pinch the corner between your thumb and index finger) the screen would shut off while on a call regardless of how far away from the sensor you were. I only noticed this because there was a gap on one unit between the white plastic and the metal band and when I squeezed it the screen shut off while on a call.
So here's my take: some units are more tightly assembled than others. The tighter ones HAVE the screen protector incompatiblilty issue, while the others do NOT but the screen will go dark when that corner is squeezed while on a call (while not near face or anything else that woud activate prox sensor).
Anyone else find this?

Well, it can be fixed, however it is in a very difficult spot, and it may cost me more to replace than what I can get out of it. I don't care to pay for a replacement since my warranty is up, because I already have an iPhone 5. I want to sell the iPhone4, and not for $75 either because you can't make a phone call unless its on speaker. I didn't know what other people had to say, so I just wanted some feedback on my options. I'm sorry that I am not an expert on the iPhone hardware componets, because I actually work for a living. I don't have time to sit here and play on forums. Thanks for all you're help.

I have put up with it for months, until june 7 when I decided it has been long enough, and I got a replacement. I told the genius bar what happened, and I already did the so called "steps" that apple reccommended on the site, which was reset network settings, restore iPhone. The genius bar gave me a replacement phone, so I was expecting that the problem would be over, but it isn't. It seems that it's iOS 6.1.3 which is the case of most public complaints on apple iPhone products. Not even 3 weeks after I got the phone replaced, it is doing it again, so I suspect I'm just going to get a replacement again? Unfortunately I only have until 5th of july 2013 until my 1 year warranty is up. After that, any issue I have, I have to purchase apple care. People are expecting this problem to be fixed but I don't see it being solved any time soon. This is horrible and really low, because I have been a good customer, when I talk to the people at the genius bar, I show the utmost respect I can to them for the work they put into their job, but somewhere there is a problem where something has gone wrong. Because of that, people that only have a one year warranty (which i received because I purchased my apple iPhone at an Optus outlet, once that one year warranty is up, I have to pay for a problem that isn't even my fault? Apple does not use the term "factory unlocked" at all.
You can not activate it without a SIM at all. You will NOT be able to use that phone on any CDMA carrier, including Sprint and Boost Mobile. If you want to use a CDMA carrier, you must purchase a phone made for their network.
If you want to use that phone (assuming it's legitimately unlocked) you will have to use a GSM carrier like AT&T or T-Mobile.

If you can find out what country your iPhone was officially sold in, you could take it there (or if originally sold in the EU, take it to any EU country where Apple officially sells the iPhone) or you could send the iPhone to someone you know in that country who could get it serviced and then ship it back to you. Apple Support does not accept shipments from other countries, and will not ship a serviced iPhone to another country.
This, though, presumes that the iPhone has not been modified as your service provider claimed. If it has, Apple will not provide service for it in any country.
You may be able to find out what country your iPhone was officially sold in by calling Apple Support:

and giving them the serial number.
