My iPhone 4 (about 2 years old now), won't charge or turn on, please help!

Could it be, is my battery finally completely dead? Does Apple schedule your device to die a month or so before their next iPhone launch date? :/ I wanted to wait to upgrade to the next iPhone but mine just seemed to die out of nowhere. Here's the background:
It's about 2 years old now. I did replace the screen about 8 months ago when it shattered, that was through a third party. I think ever since I did that, the touch sensors were a little wacky (i.e. when I made phone calls, my cheek would still press buttons on the device even though the touch senssors should be off when you have it up to your cheek). But overall, it was "ok". I knew I was due for an upgrade but it was fine for the time being.
So last night I left my iphone charging and when I woke up, it was dead. I tried charing it but it was not responding. I've held down the power button and home button at the same time for at least a minute at a time while the phone is charging through a wall socket. Still nothing.
Question one: Is it fixable and if so, how?
Question 2: If it's not fixable, can I still get my information (i.e. contacts and whatever else) off the device?
Thank you for any help!!

1.  you may have to take it in to Apple and get an out of warranty iphone for $199.
2.  you can get your information from a backup of your phone.  you do have a backup of your phone right either in iTunes or icloud.  If you don't then your answer will be no.

  • My I phone 4s (I think) won't charge or turn on  Please help!

I have tried holding the 2 buttons to reset and nothing happens. The phone was on charge all night and only showed 1% battery so I turned it off and now it is non responsive. Please help!

Attempt to perform a hardware restart on the device while it is plugged into the wall charger. To perform a hardware restart hold down the sleep/wake button on top of the device and also the home button underneath the touch screen until you get the Apple logo on the screen. Be sure to let go of the buttons once you see the Apple logo so the device does not enter DFU mode. If the device does not power on then most likely your device needs repair/replacement in which you may want to visit an Apple Retail Store or contact AppleCare at 1-800-692-7753. Hope this helps.

  • 1 Year old Battery Won't Charge

    Hello,
I've had this battery for about a year and it has been working great until now. I think the battery is still good, but the computer is having a problem charging it. The light is green after chargeing for a few minutes. At the moment, the battery is at 2% but won't charge longer than 10 minutes. I thought this might be a battery calibration issue, but after running the battery down, it still won't charge longer than 10 minutes. Does anyone else have this problem and is there anything I can do to fix it.
    Thanks

If you had asked the question about whether you can use your iBook without a battery HERE instead of at the store, you would get a different story. It is different from the one you had and different from the one the Genius gave you.
The official Apple line has always been that iBooks and PowerBooks depend on the battery to buffer fluctuations in voltages. These fluctuations are common on power lines, and can also be caused by problems in the AC Adapter, such as fraying of the cord (which is very common). Because the battery is an integral part of this buffering, Apple does not recommend using an iBook or PowerBook [or probably a MacBook either, but I have not experience with those] without the battery in place.
From a practical perspective, most will run for short periods without the battery. That may be OK for bench testing and fixing up a broken iBook. The longer you run your iBook with no battery in place, the higher the likelihood that it will suffer damage from not having a battery to help buffer fluctuations in power.

  • Since downloading ios8 iPad 2 won't charge or turn on! help!

    Hi guys,
i updated to ios8 last week, since then my ipad2 has done nothing but run terribly slow, two nights ago my battery went low and cut out all together. I put the iPad on charge aand it just won't charge up or turn on at all now.
I Have tried pressing the two buttons together many times. It's been on charge for two days straight, I've plugged it into my laptop to see if the greater power source could boot it up. None of this worked
Tonight i went went to the Trafford centre Apple store and got no help at all. qued for half an hour to get my iPad plugged into a laptop and forgotten about, felt like because I wasn't buying anything they didn't want to know! So going into a store hasn't helped me either.
I Was just wondering has this happened to anyone else? I don't know what to do about it and am lost without it! If anyone has any advice please help!!

    1. The most efficient way to charge an iPad is with the charger that came with the iPad and having that plugged into a wall outlet. Trying to charge while connected to a laptop often doesn't work because the USB port may not provide enough power.
    2. Once an iPad battery has completely drained it may take an hour or more on the wall charger before the iPad responds. So after an hour on the charger reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.
    3. If the iPad still does not start up make an appt at the Apple store. It will be far better if you have an appointment rather than just walking in because those with appointments will be taken care of before you are.

  • Iphone 4 stopped working and won't charge or turn back on.

I have had my IPhone 4 for about 5 months and today it stopped working.  It will not turn on and will not take a charge.  I assume that something has gone seriously wrong.  Has anyone had same issue?

Finally, mine is working now! what I did is I hocked it to the charger and pressed the power button and the home button at the same time for 10 seconds then it turned on and worked just fine!

  • My iPhone 4s is completely dead.  Won't charge or turn on. Help!

My phone has been draining the battery irregularly, but just now it won't turn on or charge or anything!  iTunes won't respond either.  Help!

Did you try using the wall plug to charge?
Charge it at least 15 minutes then
Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears)

  • Ipod said needed charging, got SUPER hot, now won't charge or turn on, no response from Itunes plug-in

It was working fine less than 10 hours ago, but went to work, came back, turned it on, worked for about two minutes then suddenly turned itself off, said red zone battery (swear it was more than 50% when I left and it wasn't used while I was at work) tried to charge it, had icon of charger insert and red zone battery (weird pattern, had never seen like 'checkered or bands' on the red battery icon before this) then it refused to charge.  (I'm using the same iPhone 5s charger for the RED iPod 64gb which still works on the phone.)   Had it since Nov, 30, 2012. Is this as long as the battery lasts in this stuff? I only play pocket frogs, and hay day at most 4 hours on a weekend (in between letting it sit idle). Maybe in the entire time I have owned it, would listen to music on it for 5 hours a total of 7 times if that.  Wasn't really used for much else, oh except for pictures or video, but can't have more than 1000 between both as I would move them off or delete regularly.  Never let it go dead, would recharge when it said "low battery" every time,  but noticed lately it was running down after 50% faster.  Was that a 'sign'?
Does this mean I need to give up and buy a new one or do they replace the battery  (heard any data I have will be erased on this device- does that me I can' transfer the games and stuff over to a new one? Last Computer back up was about a month ago when they did yet another "update".
    any suggestions, comments, advice?

If your problem is due to interference, you might be able to improve things by changing the channel.  An AirPort base station that old is probably an 802.11b/g model, which suggests that the best choices for channel are 1, 6, and 11.

  • My macbook pro is just over 3 years old now and off and on during this time the screen will just go all black.  Lately this blackout is lasting longer and I was wondering what is causing this.  I am afraid that this will not come back on in the future.

My MacBook pro is just over 3 years old now and the screen has totally blacked out for a few seconds at a time.  It will come back on in a few seconds with the exception this past month it has stayed black for a longer period of time like one minute.  It scares me to think that one of these times it won't come back on.  I have noticed it happens more often when I am using just the battery power.  Does anyone have any idea what causes this?  just to mention my battery was not low when this happens.

    jmckl,
if your MacBook Pro is a 15-inch Mid 2010 model (“MacBookPro6,2”), then it might be exhibiting the defect that is documented on this Apple Support page. If your black screen is due to this defect, then that page states that Apple will service this problem on this specific model of MacBook Pro gratis, for three years from the date of purchase. However, some commenters here have noted that sometimes the servicing is done gratis without having proof of the date of purchase. If you have an Apple Store near you, you might consider bringing your MacBook Pro there to have them check for the presence of this defect.
It is only the 15-inch Mid 2010 model that has this problem; no other model suffers from it.

Apple Does Not recommend that. Please Read.

    From that article
    "Portables with built-in batteries"
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Apple recommend calibrating the battery when you buy a new Macbook and then every few months, or monthly if it used on mains all the time. This, as Apple says is to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency. When the battery discharges and shuts the macbook down, it still has reserve power for a good number of hours. There is also a logic board battery to hold various settings.
I rather think I will take Apples advice on using their equipment not yours, but I would be intrigued to discover what is it you know that Apple doesnt about its batteries?

  • I Just updated the software of my iphone 4s thru phone, now the photo application won't open... Please help me what to do?

Hi! I'm Ralph.. Just updated my iphone 4s from 6.1.2- 6.1.3. ... Now the photo application won't open... Please help me what to do

Why would this be covered under warranty?  There is nothing wrong with the device, it simply needs to be restored.
As already stated twice in this thread, disable ALL security software on the computer and restore the device.

  • My baby bit down on my iphone 4. It now won't turn on. There is no visible damage. It won't trigger itunes or restore with the usual hold/home technique. Any ideas?

My baby bit down on my iphone 4. It now won't turn on. I tried charging it, using the hold/home technique, and plugging into itunes. itunes won't recognise it and nothing is working. Any ideas?

    Try this:
    Your phone is off...correct?
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you(hopefully) see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button.
If that doesn't work...it's a trip to the Apple store. An out of warranty replacement is US $149 if a hardware issue.

It sounds like the LifeProof case may have leaked.  Did you pay for the Waterproof protection?  If so, you can file a claim with lifeproof, pay the deductable, and get a replacement.
If you didn't purchase the Waterproof guarantee, if you have Applecare Plus, $79.00 will get you a replacement.  If you don't have AppleCare Plus, then this is a $269.00 replacement lesson.

The charger is covered by the same one-year from date of purchase warranty as the iPhone...take it to an Apple store genius bar for examination and replacement.
