My iphone 4 brought in apple store , but now SIM-free

I have brought an iphone 4 in London Apple Store .And i have discovered my iphone 4 have a frequent problem when i came back to Edinburgh ,so i went the apple store in Glasgow and the staff in there have returned a new one to me .BUT the one they have returned,is Locked (the SIM card only available in UK).Now i am in China , and my iphone doesn't work for three months.
The promise that Apple Online Store have made is SIM- free. I want to know what can i do when i get back to Edinburgh. And what Apple Store can do for me by the mistake of the staff have done?

My iPhone 4 from the Apple store. Now changing provider and it appears locked. Should it be?

I bought my iPhone 4 from an Apple store a couple of years ago and understood it to be unlocked. Now I am changing provider and it appears to be locked. I have tried the new SIM card with other phones and it is okay. Originally I was with Vodafone and have recently moved to GiffGaff as I reached the end of my contract. The iPhone won't start up instead it says "Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier's store to receive a replacement SIM card."Although my number has been ported across I place the old SIM back in the iPhone and it starts up. Can anyone offer any advice?

If you are in UK
Apple sell unlocked but they will also sell an iPhone with a contract
especially back in iPhone 4 days
If you purchased fron an Apple Retail store ( Apple owned) and paid
full price it should be unlocked as your Apple receipt should show
If not , it is locked but (if in UK ) Vodafone do offer unlocking .
Do a deep search of their site and you will find guidance not easy to find

You are quite correct. However I think it's a pretty strong "may" given that Apple is marketing the unlocked version as "When you travel internationally, you can also use a micro-SIM card from a local GSM carrier.". During travel there's no less opportune a time for your phone to go down. Apple understands this. While my 3G (carrier unlocked) has never required service. On other iOS devices Apple has been more than accommodating to the point of honoring their 30 days return policy in another country but pleading with me to save them the paperwork and sending it back to the US as a return myself. The fact they knew the paperwork routine suggests they would have accommodated me had I insisted.

Since upgrading to iOS8 iTunes no longer recognizes my iPhone5 when I connect to SYNC or BACKUP my iPhone5. Thus, these features are no longer available. When I click on the DEVICES tab, the window is dim, and will therefore not allow me to SYNC or BACKUP my iPhone5 on my iMac. I use iTune 11.4 and iOS8.

After the first install of iOS8 my iPhone5 locked up with a picture of a cord connected to a device linking to iTunes. After taking my iPhone5 to the Apple Store, an Expert was able to get my phone operational again. However, when I returned home I found I no longer had options in iTunes to SYNC or BACKUP my iPhone5. Screen protectors are for protection against scratches, not for protection against the iPod being dropped. As to the case, you may wish to take this issue up with the case manufacturer, though again, most claim protection only against scratches and mars, not against being dropped. Either way, such damage is not covered by the devices. warranty.
As to cost, Apple does not repair iPods, but will replace the entire iPod for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here (as also mentioned by Limnos):

There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair". Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPod serviced by an unauthorized shop, all further warranty will be void.

Go back to the store and ask them to exchange it. If you mean you bought it online, either find a local Apple Store, or call your country's AppleCare line for help.
What SIM card are you trying to insert? Are you sure it's the right size? Iphone 6 takes nano SIM size.

Hi Chris.
It's asking you for my apple id password. not going to give that out, sorry.
However I did try this projector on my mother in laws iphone 4 and on my old iphone 3. ipico software isn't needed. plug and play any video through standard movie player or camera saved video.
I tried on my girls iphone 5 with the adapter. The ipico software and projector doesn't work on this phone.
Hope this helped you. Better to buy a used iphone 3 or 4 and use it for video storage.
I also found that the battery on these projectors are a joke (30-60mins max). I rigged a longer lasting battery on the outside and keep it plugged in while using. This doesn't charge the phone though so I replaced the battery in the old iphone 3 and now get at least a full length movie from it. Great in bed projected onto the ceiling.

The lock button on my iphone 5 is broken and I want to replace it at an apple store but I haven't paid my phone bill for AT&T so my phone has no service. Can i still replace my iPhone 5 whether or not i have to activate my phone with AT&T? Help please

Earlier i meantioned that my lock screen was broken. That was a mistake its my lock button i apologize. But do i still have to pay for my phone bill and activate my AT&T account in order to replace my iPhone 5 at an apple store?? Or not because of the one-year warranty??

The lock button on my iPhone5 has also started acting up. Extremely annoying. I have to get it replaced, but I've dropped my phone once and there is a scratch on the top left corner of the phone, so I'm not sure what the warranty says about this situation.

My 3 week old iphone 5 has fallen on to a rug and the screen is cracked! I have an appointment at the apple store but i have to travel a bit to get to it. Will the replace the phone or send it away? I don't want to travel for nothing.

If you are in the US ,some Apple genius bars are replacing screens at this time if your local store isn't offering that service or you are not in the US there will be an out of warranty exchange unit for $229
make sure you back up everything as if you exchange your iPhone will go and the Genius bar do not provide a backup service

You CANNOT legitmately unlock the AT&T iphone at all.
AT&T does NOT unlocl any iphones at all.
They clearly state this on their website.
