My iPhone 4 died and won't turn back on. It's been on the charger for 17 hours.

Last night my phone went completely dead while I was doing something for school. I put it on the charger as soon as I got into the car, maybe 30 minutes after it went dead. It's been charging for 17 hours and still shows an empty battery with a flash underneath.
I've tried everything. I've attempted a hard reset multiple times, the screen goes black for maybe two seconds and then the empty battery comes back. Tried restarting my computer while my phone was plugged into it. Tried pressing the home button while plugging it into my computer. My computer isn't recognizing it when I plug the phone in.
I am desperate. I don't have the money to buy a new phone. Please help.
It hasn't been dropped. No water damage. I've never broken an iPhone before.

Your only chance is connecting in recovery mode, as explained in this article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
iTunes has to tell you that it found an iPhone in recovery mode, otherwise you can't be sure that you put it into recovery mode.

  • My iPhone 4 died and won't turn back on?

Today I was out and had my phone in my bag. It was already 23% when I left the house, and I didn't really look at it while I was out. About two hours later, I think I got a call cause my phone was vibrating, but when I checked, the screen was black and wouldnt show anything??? I figured the battery was dying or something so I just left it alone. Then when I got home, I went to charge it but nothing is happening. It's been charging for like an hour now and nothing has showed up. What can I do? I tried the home+power button but my home button is kinda messed up (I used assistive touch), so I'm not sure if it's even effective. Help please!

    Time for a new phone.
    Christmas is early for you.

sometimes if the battery drains completely you will need to leave it plugged into a charger for 10-15 minutes before you get any activity at all.  this is normal

There is a thread or two about the home button and how to fix it at least temporally.  It sounds like some people have found it to be a rather permanent fix.  Do search on something like "Home button won't work".  It has something to do with putting the charging cable into the phone and applying a little extra pressure upward on the key.  Don't take my word for it though look for the thread/s.  You said originally that your "Power" button was broken and the thread I have seen is about the Home Button.

  • IPhone went dead and won't turn back on

My iPhone 5 was a refurbished phone that I received under warranty in November. However, it worked fine until last week when it started turning off at 50% and below (which is the same reason why I had to get this refurbished phone in the first place). But because it immediately turned back on, I thought nothing of it and ignored it. However, my phone went dead two days ago and won't turn back on. I've used two chargers that worked the day of, but it wouldn't charge with either of those and those wouldn't even connect my phone to my laptop. So, thinking and hoping it was both of the cords malfunctioning, I went out and bought another cord. My phone still won't turn on, Apple Support refuses to help in any way because my warranty out, and I'm lost.

Plug it in to a wall outlet so it has power, then do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.

  • IPhone shut down and won't turn back on

    Hello everyone,
I've been enjoying my iPhone for quite some time and recently used the iPod function and docked the iPhone to my iPod Hi-Fi sound system...suddenly the screen goes all white and the phone shuts down. I tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't budge, i've attached it to the charger for about 4 hours now and still nothing. I've tried the home and power button reset but that didn't do anything...If anyone knows what's going on here, please let me know. Thanks for lookin!

If you have charged it directly to the USB on your computer, and not on a hub the only thing that I can surmise is that it is down beyond repair.
You cannot reset since there is no lock.
I suggest you take it to the nearest Apple Store or AT&T Store, wherever you bought the phone and see where that leads. Of course you can also call AppleCare.

  • My iPhone 5 just died, and won't turn back on..

Hard boot doesn't help, could it be the battery that is dead? I had to charge it 5 times a day for some weeks before it died..
It won't charge, or connect to iTunes, and since it had to be charged 5 times a day for it to make it through ONE day, I'm thinking that it might be that the battery is just 100% dead..
Could it be something like that?
I have tried hard Boot by holding the home and powerbutton for 15 sec and more, and tried charging it in the wall for 1 hour and tried again, still nothing..

    Its the integrated charging circuit..
but before jumping conclusions change the battery..only takes 2 minutes need a pentalobe scredriver for the two bottom screws phillips microdriver and a 10dollar battery, the screwdrivers are like 5 dollars and in some cases they will come with the battery (ebay)!

  • IPhone Shut off and won't turn back on

My iPhone 3GS just shut down and won't do anything. I've tried pressing the top button, toggling the top and bottom button, plugging in to charge it, and syncing it, but it just stays black and non-responsive. Any suggestions?

Home + Sleep does not restore. It simply resets you need to put your iPhone in recovery mode (hopefully you backup your phone frequently):
    1. Open iTunes.
    2. Connect iPhone to Computer.
    3. Press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously.
    4. As soon as the screen goes black release the Sleep/Wake button BUT continue holding the home button until you see a pop up a message in iTunes telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
    5. Sync and restore.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if it does not so I can provide more help.

  • Iphone4s just died and won't turn back on, what should I do?

Checking out apps on iPhone 4S and was about 50% battery then it just shuts down. I haven't been able to turn it back on. What should I do?

Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears? Put it on the charger for about 10 minutes first.

  • Macbook Pro died and won't turn back on

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro 13' (it's about 1.5 years old). I was on it a couple of hours ago when I got the running on reserve battery indicator. Before I could plug the charger in, it died. I have had the charger in for over 2 hours now and it still won't turn on. The green light is on on the charger. When I unplug the charger the first battery strength light flashes on twice but that is it. When it is plugged in the battery strength lights do not go on at all. I have been searching for an answer for over an hour but can't seem to find one. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

It's a possibility, magsafes are known to do all sorts of strange things (I've had tons of replacements), but more than likely it's your battery. Does a friend or family member have another charger you could try? That's how you'll know if it's the battery or charger. If not I would say take it to an apple store to try it out!

  • My iPhone had charge but turned off and won't turn on even when it is in the charger

My iphone 4 turned off still with charge, I have tried to charge and connect to I tunes and nothing is happening HELP

    Hello Samoens,
I would be concerned too if my iPhone wasn't powering on.  I found some steps you can take to address issues like this:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • My iphone 5 was working this morning fine with a full charge but switched off and won't turn back on. I have held the buttons to switch it back on and tried to plug it in iTunes but nothing. Any help?

    Please read title

Plug your device into the original charger & block in a wall outlet and leave it alone for a couple of hours. Then, while it is still plugged in, restart it by holding down the home button and the power button for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple, then let go.

  • When i try to open my ipad.It says it needs more charging when its been on the charger for 3 hours already. Then every 3 minutes the apple logo would show up, then my lockscreen would flash then turn off.

    pleaase help me

Try a reset: hold down the home button along with the power button until you see the Apple, then let go.
