My Iphone 4 has a section of the screen not responding to touch - it's where i have to enter my pincode so won't unlock - what can I do?

Hi I have a strip across the middle of my Iphone 4 screen that is not repsonding to touch at all.  One minute it was working the next it wasn't.  It's right across where I need to input my pincode to unlock, so I can;t do anything with the phone at all. I've tried soft resetting it etc but no joy.  What else can I do - phone is only 6 or 7 weeks old

well recomend to see if ur iPhone is under warranty.. but sounds like a hareware issue! you can try it but i dont think it would work but to see if its a software issue put device it Recover mode or known has DFU mode an force restore (you will lose all content on the iPhone) an install 6.1.3 fresh on it but to me sounds like a LCD & Digitizer problem might need a new Assembly...

    Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.

To rule out a software issue, set it back to factory settings without using the latest backup.

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Hey Nadia232,
Thanks for the question, and great troubleshooting so far. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your iPhone 4S multi-touch display. The following resource may provide a solution:

    Resolution
If your device is experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, try the following steps:
    1. Restart your device
              - Hold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
              - If you can't restart your device, reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    2. Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
    3. Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.
    4. If you have a protective case, or if you are using a plastic sheet or film on the display, try removing them and testing the device without it.
If the steps above don't resolve your issue, please schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store for evaluation. If an Apple Retail store is not an option, contact Apple to find out your best service option or see the Service FAQ for your product.
If your issue is not resolved, please follow the last steps for seeking service options.

  • My brand new IPhone has a line down the screen.

Nothing has happened to it, I was just using it set it down, picked it back up a few minutes later and boom this line is there?? It also affects the use of the phone. I don't get what could be wrong?

Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons for about 10 seconds until iPhone begins to restart itself, ignore the "slide to power off", let the iPhone restart itself. See if better, if still problem, Restore the iPhone with current iTunes on your computer. See if fixed. If still problem make Genius reservation or set up Service and take or send to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

  • My NEW iphone has just frozen. The screen is blank and the only thing showing is a loading sign that is also frozen. What happened? How do I fix this?

    Help!

Kristen, is the "loading" sign a bar which moves( or should move) across the home screen?  Also, have you "activated" it, either via iCloud or iTunes?

  • Home button no longer working, screen not responding half the time, very slow functioning and random crashing?? What is going on?

I got my IPhone 4 (GSM) a couple of years back, and had never had any trouble with it. As soon as the new updates came out (this past summer), the phone has been glitching out (randomly screen going black, or closing an app by itself, super slow functioning, screen not responding to touch and home button not working anymore).
Help anyone? Makes no sense why it would just stop working.. ??

it depends. i had an iPhone 3GS that was not good in the first place, but functionable. when i got iOS6 it just acted weird like yours. Have you ever dropped your phone or anything? Or maybe you should try closing your apps. For the home button. Go to Settings:General:Accsessibility:Scroll down;Assistive Touch: On. That part is hard to explain but self explanatory,
    i hope this helps!

  • Hu, my iPad has a frozen screen, was working fine then would not respond to touch, any ideas?

    Hi,
Has anyone had a problem with their ipad screen not responding to touch? I can't close it down properly or entre the password to start it up again, the screen does not respond to touch...any ideas?
    Thanks
    Rob

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Screen Not Responding

I've had my iPhone 4S since 5/12. Never had any major problems with it - a few sound distortions here and there that were easily fixed by shutting it off for a few seconds. Yesterday, a small portion of the screen quit responding to touch. I can't text unless I turn the phone sideways and even the, the R, 4 and most of the punctuation marks don't work. I can't open any of the apps in that area and can't dial numbers or access my contacts in that area. The woman I spoke with at Apple said it can't be repaired and it will cost $200 to replace because it's after 90 days. Many of my friends have said that that shouldn't matter as long as it's insured with Verizon (which it is) and that they've gotten free replacements immediately if they took it to the Apple store. Can someone tell me which is right? I leave for Texas in a week and really would like to take a working phone.

hi mate have u checked that you are up to date with the latest Nokia system app updates from the Store, along with the latest firmware? also try performing a soft reset after doing the above.

  • Screen does not respond to touch

I cannot get the screen to respond to touch at all.  The buttons work correctly so I have done a restart several times to see if that corrected it and it did not.  I was going to try the webOS Doctor but since I can't use the touch screen I can't tell it to work as a USB device for my computer.  Any advice?
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Yes you can still try webOS doctor by holding the volume up and the power buttons while you connect your USB cable. Go to this following web site to get the webOS doctor and follow the steps on the web page.

  • I was synching my iphone 4 and unplugged it. It's now stuck on a screen that has the chord and the music note that says itunes under it. I have tried to reboot and have even cancelled my last synching process. My phone is froze

I was synching my iphone 4 and unplugged it. It's now stuck on a screen that has the chord and the music note that says itunes under it. I have tried to reboot and have even cancelled my last synching process. My phone is froze. I need help.

You probably have to go through a restore of the phone.
Plug the phone in and launch iTunes, then select your phone from the left side of the menu.
There will be an option to restore the phone and click that button.
That will erase and restore the phone.  After it's done, it will ask you to restore from a recent backup, and you can choose to go ahead and restore.
You should be back up and running from there, but may have to do some minor tweeks to get yourself back up exactly as you left off.  Some things like your visual voicemail password and email passwords may have to be entered again, but you'll be in good shape.
