I have an iphone 4 from verizon. Ive had for little over a year now. i put a password on it and i forgot it and at i first i didnt want to reset my iphone because nothing was backed up but then i decided if i had to reset my iphone then i guess that is whats going to have to be done and then when i tried to reset it it keeps telling me to enter my apple id and password i used to set up the iphone but i forgot my apple id so now i dont know what to do please help me

You may be able to recover your Apple ID at https://iforgot.apple.com.
You're going to have to remember the Apple ID. If you can't, the only option you have is to take the phone along with the original proof of purchase to Apple and see if they can help you. They have been known to do so, but ONLY for the original purchaser of the phone with a valid proof of purchase.

Of course a new AppleID won't work. You need to use the one it asks for.
You must have a record of your AppleID and password somewhere... Are you not signed into the iTunes Store in iTunes on your computer?
Do you not keep important usernames and passwords stored safely somewhere you can get them if needed?

Sorry, without knowing the Apple ID/Password that was originally used to activate this phone, then there is no way to re-activate it, as you've found out.
Apple can't/won't help you. Your choice is to get this info, or you simply won't be able to re-activate this phone.
If you ex won't give it to you, then consult a lawyer.

Hi If you use a new Apple ID when setting up new iPhone Any music or Apps you have paid for will be lost. If you want to use your Apple ID that you have go to apple/support/id/apple.com. Cheers Brian

Your password was sent to your emergency email address. Perhaps you have an email you never use? I use the free email from my cable TV account as my emergency email.
Your Apple account and cloud account are separate. You could even have completely different user and password. Most of us use the same user ID and password, but they are not the same thing, don't mix them up.
If you can't retrieve emergency email, you will have to call apple support.

Try using these steps to stop Lost Mode from iCloud.com:
Stop Lost Mode or change your contact info
Sign in to icloud.com/#find with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud).If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices, then select the device that’s in Lost Mode.
Click Lost Mode, then change the information or click Stop Lost Mode.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.
