Hi, my iphone 4 is locked and it doesnt work anymore. I just get the screen after set up 'this sim is not supported by your carrier, please put a valid sim with no code to activate. What should I do next? I already tried rebooting..

ONLY the carrier to which an iphone is locked can unlock it AND ONLY if they offer this service.
You will need to contact the carrier to which it is locked and ask them if they unlock iphones.
Ask whomever sold you the iphone to which carrier it is locked

Sorry, downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple, thus there is no official way to do so. Your phone was re-locked to the carrier it was originally locked to because you hacked it to unlock it. Apple's servers detected such & re-locked your phone. You need to contact the carrier your phone is locked to if you want to get it officially unlocked.

So, I unlock the iPhone by entering the "passcode" before I plug it into the MBP and still iPhoto does nothing. At least it doesn't issue the error message above.
I've checked both iPhoto preferences and those for Photos and Camera in the Settings on the iPhone. There doesn't seem to be anything to change this lack of connectivity.
What next please?

An hour-long phone discussion with Apple Support yesterday solved this question and sorted a couple of others.
As for this one, do not ignore any messages which pop up when you plug in your iPhone and ask "Trust this computer?". The correct reply is "Yes", not "Cancel".
OK, you cancelled like I did, thinking "What on earth is this for?". Mistake. You can force the issue by having iTunes open when you next plug in your iPhone. Tell the iPhone that it can trust its old friend, your computer and voila! Your photos can download into iPhoto again.

We've an article that provides the following troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize your iPhone.

The ONLY place can unlock an iphone is the carrrier to which it is locked and ONLY if they offer that service.
For example, AT&T in the U.S. does not unlock any iphones at all.
You can buy an unlocked iphone from the Apple Store now, but you cannot get a locked phone unlocked in the U.S.

If it was officially unlocked by AT&T, it will remain unlocked during an upgrade of the iOS. If it was hacked to provide unlocking, it will most likely lock to the original carrier.

The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required
If you do not have that information you will not be able to use the Device.

Every time i connect it to itunes all it says is "There is no SIM card installed in the iphone you are attempting to activate." Even thought there is a sim card connected in my phone.

Is the SIM from a supported carrier?
Is the device carrier locked, officially unlocked, or hacked to be unlocked?
Has the SIM been reseated? If not, try that.
Also, basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore. Has any of that been tried?

Previously I have ios 5.0.1 on iPhone 4, recently I upgrades to iOS 5.1.1 . After some hours I noticed that my phone is just vibrating, not ringing. I checked the orange button, tried all cleaning procedures. No music, no lock sounds, nothing from the internal speakers. But, when I connected to earphones I can hear music normally. Without earphones just no sounds. I restore lot of times, but no sound again. I think the problem with iOS 5.1.1. Guys plzzzzzz solve this......... Have you checked your apps so that there is no apps overriding the output audio like lock sound etc.
Om my 4S, if I forget quiting spotify and it is running without sound in the background it will disable lock sound etc.
This is just an example and spotify do not disable important sounds like ringing and alarms etc.
But maybe a app is malfunctioning after upgrading to ios 5.1.1
Also you could try restoring the phone like sugested by others in iTunes.

The phone will only show it's location if it is connected to cellular network or Wi-Fi. If those options are switched off, you can't locate the phone.

Sounds like your phone was hacked to work with any network. Doing the update re-locked it to the original carrier. All you can do now is contact the carrier it is locked to to see if they have an unlocking policy. Note that if it's AT&T they do not offer unlocking. otherwise find an un-activated sim for the original carrier and you can use it as an iPod.
