My iphone 4 says call failed and message failed?
It was locked to orange but just had it unlocked to work on my T-mobile sim. Had this issue even before I got it unlocked. I have just bought this off of somebody and it keeps saying call failed/call ended just after I have dialled and then when I try to send a message it says message failed, however, I can get onto the internet using my signal alone and not connecting to Wi-fi. Incredibly confused as to why this isnt working. I have full signal. Done a full restore on 2 different computers still with no result. Really at the end of my tether with this, someone please help.

I faced similar issue where I was getting signal, able to receive calls, use all data services but everytime i went to make a call it said "Call Failed"
You need to try to go to Settings>>Phone>>>Show My Caller ID>> Ensure it is On.
Even if it appears on try switching off and on.
Mine was not allowing to switch off and on but something I did worked and then able to make calls.
Also try Settings>>>General>>>Reset>>Rest All Settings
I faced issue of not being able to make calls after switching my sim card from postpaid to prepaid. First it dint recognise the sim at all then on pluggin in to itunes i was able to activate and atleast receive calls, use all data only everytime i tried makinng a call it said call failed.
When i restored to factory settings it worked. However on restoring my backup i faced the same issue.
Apple local support was most unhelpful saying that i had to forget my data and work with a new phone without contacts, apps, etc

The "call failed" message means that your iPhone lost communications to the cell tower network. There are many possible causes for this. It could be that your battery is getting too low to keep the connection alive. It could be that the radio is overheating from being on for such a long period and it is failing to work within specs. It could be that your ell provider has something set in their towers thinking that it is an error when a call lasts that long, and they "fail" the call to prevent tieing up resources on dropped calls that didn't disconnect on your end. We would need more details to try to narrow down the probelms for you.
A number of years ago I was on a 2 hour cell call for work support overnight. About 45 min-an hour into the call my cell gave me a low battery indicator so I connected the AC power and contiued the call. At about 2 hours in, the phone got too hot and it just turned itself off dropping the call in the middle. At that time, it was a phone issue, but cell phones weren't designed to be used for 2+ hour calls then, so I don;t know of any cell phone that would have done better.
To be honest, I'm not sure why you are using an iPhone for 4 hour long calls now. There are so many better options. -
Hi! I brought an iPhone 4 off my friend at work. The day I brought it, it was working fine but now I can't seem to send any messages or make phone calls. The network is showing up fine but each time I try to make a call it says "call failed" I can't seem to send any messages either? I can use the Internet fine and everything else on the phone. You can reset the phone and it won't cause any problems or cause you to lose any data - Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Silver Apple appears.
The other thing you should do is to reset your network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. You will have to set up your Wifi again, but that oftentimes clears things up.

try general>settings>reset>reset all settings and start up as an new phone.

My FaceTime isn't working properly. Every call I make a black dot appears on the camera in the middle (fixed onto the screen, and is not dirt), and the calls always fail. It would ring 6 times and then say call failed. How can I fix this?
If FaceTime ever worked properly for you, restarting your modem (and separate router/wireless if you have such) may help. If the problem continues, try connecting at a different location to see if the problem is within your wi-fi.
The black dot problem may mean you need to reset your iPod. If that does not help, it may need service by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Whenever I go to facetime on my macbook air it says call failed. Both my WiFi and Facetime are connected. I tried turning my Facetime on, and off,yet it still does not work. please help.

just after i merged and cleaned my contacts, one contact does not appear in my caller id and messages even the contact is in my phonebook. I already tried disabling my yahoo and google accounts connected to my iphone 4 ios 7.1. stiill no luck
Within Contacts, tap Groups at top left. Make sure all contact groups are checked to show, then tap "Done" at top right.

don't update to iOS7 just yet if you prefer 6. Many are saying that's the cure, but there are lots of iOS7 users here who can't make Facetime work either.
It would seem Apple has either a big problem on their hands, as this is now a week old, or they don't know how to fix it. Either way, email Apple tech support your concerns -

I had the same problem!! I had to complain quite a few times to AT&T & found out I had to get the 3G MicroCell device. You also have to pay an extra $20 a month for it! You have to purchase it yourself($200)...which is a bunch of crap too!! But they can research your area & when they finally figure out that it's a bad servise area they will give it to you for FREE!! Now my phone works like it's supposed to!! So check it out!! Good Luck!!

Phone says "call failed" with full service
at school, especially, my phone has 3, 4, or full bars, but when i try to call someone, it either says call failed, or just doesn't ring, and keeps trying to call for minutes and minutes.
it only happens from time to time, but more often than not.
it can work in one spot one day, but not in the same spot the next.Try what is suggested here

aadilI am having this same problem. I have an iPhone 4 AT&T, which until today had iOS 5.1. Over the last month or so, I have been either dropping calls, or the person whom I am speaking with can no longer hear me speaking, but I can hear them. AT&T made me upgrade iOs 7, swearing that it would solve the problem. Now I can't complete a call, and have a $100 per month paperweight that looks like Apple should be paying royalties to VTECH as my phone looks like a leapfrog children's toy instead of a phone. AT&T is "looking" for a solution to my area's coverage, which has been perfect for the last 24 months. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Also Apple: If you actually read these, let us choose what the desktop looks like because it looks like a lot of users HATE the new one.

Cannot make calls...always says "call failed"
hello. the problem is that i cannot make calls, every time that i have to make a calls a little sounds comes and in the screen says "call failed".
what can i do?The standard troubleshooting steps for the iPhone in order are; power the iPhone off and on, Reset, Restore.
How long have you been using your iPhone? Has it always been this way, or is this a recent occurrence?
Do you have EDGE access?
Are you able to send and receive SMS?
Another troubleshooting step to try is removing and re-inserting your SIM card to make sure it is seated properly. Be sure to power your iPhone off before doing so.
If none of the above makes any difference, I would contact at&t to see if they are having any network problems in your area - assuming you have a home telephone or access to another phone - which is a good idea to use anyway when calling at&t or AppleCare in case they want you to perform any troubleshooting while on the phone.
If at&t is not reporting any temporary network problems, the next step to take is calling AppleCare (800) 694-7466 or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby. -
