  • IPhone stuck in recovery mode and I NEED MY MEDIA!

Trying to update to the newest OS, typically failed with an "unknown error (-1)" and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode and wants me to restore it. I have many photos and videos only on my phone that I desperately do not want to lose, no icloud. How can I retrieve them?? I did a sync/backup via itunes right before trying to update but I don't think that saves my photos, does it, since itunes doesn't import photos from my camera roll? Help.

Thanks. I ended up trying to restore it, and it then gave me the same error message! With "cannot be restored' AWESOME.
I don't have access to another computer currently. I tried pretty much everything on that page and other forums I could find except for the things that I don't understand or don't know how to do such as connecting without an internet proxy(what? tech-stupid here, I need it spelled out.) configuring security software, ports and firmware and really this is all gibberish to me. It's mind baffling how I had a perfectly working phone and computer 2 days ago and now because of this stupid update I have no phone at all. Guess I'm just going to have to call apple and try to have them sort it out for me although usually when I call them I don't understand how to do half the things they say anyway... isn't there anyone who can translate more simply to a computer moron?? Hah. I'm in the middle of nowhere WV, apparently there's not even an apple store in this entire state, so that's out. Seems like everytime I have to update anything regarding apple it turns into a major problem.

    I GOT THE SOLUTION!!
This problem happens due a conflict between the Samsung's Software "NEW PC STUDIO" and the Apple Drivers!
The solution is unistall all Samsung's Software and removing all Apple Softwares as well (like iTunes, device drivers etc)
Then cleaning the Windows Register with some software like CCleaner AND manually using REGEDIT, just find for Samsung (carefully with other Samsung Devices like HardDrive. You musn't remove something like that) then, finding for New PC Studio.
Remove all Keys related Samsung New PC Studio.
Restart your PC and reinstall iTunes lastest version.
Now, you can put your iPhone in Recovery Mode that Windows will recognize it!

  • Iphone stuck in recovery mode and can't recover because "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"

I have an iPhone 4S and it has been stuck in recovery mode for whatever reason. I have tried using data recovery software that can turn my phone to normal mode but when it tries all my phone does in turn off and then on again, back into recovery mode. I can't use iTunes to recover my phone because it won't let me do it without updating and recovering the iPhone. When I do this it gives me the error "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
Is there any other way I can restore my phone from backup without getting this error?

  • Iphone 4 is stuck in recovery mode and gives error code 2001 when trying to restore from itunes...any help?

Just downloaded the new software from itunes today for my iphone 4.  While talking on the phone while plugged into macbook (charging) my call was dropped and then my phone turned off.  Itunes now says it found my phone and it was in recovery mode and I need to restore it.  When I try to do that I get an error code of (2001) and I am unable to go any further.  any help from anyone please?  Thanks.  Ben

    Thats okay
Are you using a Mac or PC? The step about ports, it not really relative to your issue (error 2001)
    Apple wrote (in TS1275)
(2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on) If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. Learn how to reset the SMC. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue continues, it may be related to conflicting security software.
So I would try an SMC reset if you are on a Mac. But mainly, try a different USB cable if you have one.

  • Stuck between "Recovery Mode" and "an error occurred while trying to update

My iPod touch is stuck in Recovery Mode (meaning it has become a $500 paper weight) and when I plug it into iTunes and try to restore and update it the message is something like "an error occurred while trying to update your iPod (14)". Everything was just fine until I downloaded software 2.2 and try to install it. I've tried disconnecting other USB devices and changing the USB port (as I read about this in other forums) but still no success. I've been trying since yesterday now, and I am beginning to get desperate. I'd appreciate any help. These updates seem to have become a "plug and pray" kind of thing...

if if makes you feel any better, i received my ipod touch and two hours later it did the same exact thing. i've followed everything on the apple website and nothing works. it does make a great paperweight though.

  • Iphone gone into recovery mode and wont connect to itunes or allow me to turn it on

i tried to downlaod the new software and now phone has gone into recovery but wont connect to itunes or allow me to turn phone back on

    Hey Justinrulz108,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Your issue sounds similar to the device not being recognized in iTunes while in recovery mode. It may be good to attempt the troubleshooting in the following article:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
Refer to Step 5 "Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed" and the sub-section titled "If the device is not recognized while in Recovery Mode". Here is an excerpt to get you started (see article for full information, including important additional steps):
Your device may not be recognized while in recovery mode. This can happen during an update or restore of your device. Typically when your device is in recovery mode, it will show the "Connect to iTunes" logo on its display. If iTunes does not recognize the device when in this state, try the following:
    1. Open the Device Manager:
Windows XP: Click Start > Run. In the resulting dialog, type devmgmt.msc and press Return.
Windows Vista or Windows 7: Click Start. In the dialog, type devmgmt.msc and press Return on the keyboard. If Windows needs your permission to continue, click "Continue".
Windows 8: Move the cursor to the upper right corner, click the magnifying glass, type devmgmt.msc, and press Return.
    2. Click the plus ( + ) icon (Windows XP and Vista) or the disclosure triangle () (for Windows 7 and 8) next to Imaging Devices, Other Devices, Portable Devices, and Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand these sections.
    3. Check these sections for one or more entries called Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode). These entries may or may not have exclamation marks on them similar to the following:
    [continue with steps]
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Iphone went into recovery mode after trying to update to 5.1

I went to upgrade to 5.1 and my iphone went into recovery mode and will not work unless i restore it, if i do this will i lose everything!?

    dfu mode
How to enter iPhone DFU mode
Connect the iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes
Turn the iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone)
Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button
Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected
When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black
Even though the screen is black, that doesn’t mean the device can’t be interfaced with either iTunes or a custom firmware client (for jailbreaking, etc).
Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode. Again, DFU mode is signified by having a completely black screen on the device. If anything else is the case, repeat the steps above until you enter into DFU mode successfully.
    Exit DFU mode on iPhone
The simplest way to exit out of DFU mode is to hold down the Home and sleep/power buttons on the iPhone while connected to iTunes. Then just hit the power button as and this should reboot the device as usual.
And if you’re curious, yes this works all the same on an iPod touch.

  • How do i fix my iphone 5 stuck in recovery mode and wont let me restore it just says unknown error 1603 has occured

how do i fix my iphone 5 stuck in recovery mode and wont let me restore it just says unknown error 1603 has occured

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error1603
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. Also, discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps under Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user. If the issue remains, Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
