My iPhone 4 will not charge when it's plugged in. could the socket in the phone be damaged?

I ran my ipod all night and ran the battery dead, when I plugged it in the phone never beeped that it was charging and the indicator showed it needed a charge. Now it's totally dead and won't take a charge at all???
Could I have damaged the plug in socket on the phone? I've tried 3 different cords, and my 12v plug my 110v plug and plugging it into my computer. I got nothing???
Can it be taken a part and cleeaned? where the cord plugs into the phone?

Plug it into a wall outlet and leave it along for 15-20 minutes.
If it doesn't start charging after that, take it to Apple.

They indicate that for $49 they can reset the computer, and that will fix the problem. I am not so sure, as the Toshiba documentation indicates that for some loads, the sleep and charge feature will not work. Should I continue to pursue the Toshiba group or just charge the iphone with the small cube charger and forget about connecting it or updating it through this computer? A fix is desired, but if there is none, just a reminder that maybe Toshiba laptop computers do not have enough output current to charge an iPhone.

What you describe is not an Apple or iPhone issue.
Talk to Toshiba. If you chose to pursue the issue with them, that is up to you. No one here can tell you what the correct solution is.
Keep in mind, all iPhones ship will a wall plug to permit the device being charged from a wall outlet.

For a while now, my iphone 4s will not stay connected to the iMac. It will register when I plug it in to the USB port, but after a minute it will just drop connection. I tried to backup it into iTunes but it kicks me out when the connection is lost. Any suggestions?

when your device is plugged to your imac it asks you whether to Trust your computer or Dont trust ->you just click on trust then it starts supporting

when ever i hold the power button, I see this and that is it. It only shows for a few seconds then goes blank. I let it sit on the charger for hours all day and it will not charge. My iPhone does not even respond to the charger when plugged in, it will do nothing. Just to answer those who may think i jailbroken my iPhone, I did not. This never happened before. A hard reset would fix many issues i had before.

My iphone 4 will not charge when I plug it into my PC

I plug my phone into my PC computer and it will charge for 2 minutes and then it stops reading my phone. I've tried unplugging it and switching ports but it does not help.

It sounds like your phone is not charging for more than a couple of minutes when connected to your computer. I recommend these troubleshooting instructions from the article named:

Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.

If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.

IPhone 4 will not charge when connected to power

I have tried the home/ power trick and at first it went to the apple logo then would power up and then cycle off and then repeat infinitely. Now the phone is so low on power that it only shows either the lightening bolt while connected or the cord + lightening bolt when not connected to power. It is still not charging though. I left plugged in overnight and still no change.Help please

If not a problem with the power adaptor or cable being used, more than likely the iPhone has a hardware problem with the battery or something else. Make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

I purchased my new iPhone 4 (32GB) about a month ago just before Christmas (2010). About a night ago I was speaking on my iPhone when the battery died and the iPhone shut itself off. Now I have run down the battery before and understand the phone requires a good 10-15 minutes plugged in before it will switch back on.
Upon plugging iPhone in and leaving for quite some time all I was shown initially was the large battery symbol in the middle of the screen the lightening bolt symbol underneath. After a few seconds the lower lightening bolt symbol flashes between the bolt and a plug symbol pointing via an arrow to another lightening bolt symbol.
The battery refuses to take charge and so will not switch back on. And this symbol on appears when I plug the phone in. The charger is fine as the phone recognises it has been plugged in. I even tried my friends identical iPhone charger and the same symbols appeared. This also occurred upon plugging the phone into my MacBook Pro. iTunes even did not recognise the phone was plugged in.
I have not had any progress from these symbols since this happened two nights ago and would be very grateful for any advice anybody might have please. Unfortunately I live in Leeds, UK and my nearest Apple retailer is very far in Sheffield, and without a phone I cannot call Apple Technical Support.

It won't recognise it at all, but luckily I backed up very recently.
I've booked an appointment with an Apple store who promise a working iPhone within 10 minutes of your appointment, whether fixed or a brand new iPhone.

its fixed!! After posting my problem with the FROZEN ipod classic (2007) 80 gb a screen popped up with similar subjects that I did not find in my original search. 'Rich Fleming' in the community posted a suggestion to someone with a similar frozen issue and it WORKED when I tried it.
hold the 'menu' and the 'circle' buttons down at the same time, KEEP the pressed until the apple appears. and now it is working. Hope this helps others.

It is yet happening to me. In my case it happens when I plug it to any kind of charger: socket, car... I have to pull it out the phone and plug it in again so it reacts and starts charging.
Of course, I tried cleaning with a soft, dry brush. This had no effect.

Had same problem and did the normal reset 10seconds but did not work.
I plugged in USB and held the on/off switch and home button for 20seconds and the "Connect to Itunes" came on the screen. I then opened up Itunes and it directed me to restore.
