My Iphone 4S keeps deleting my address book constantly, how to solve this???

Im just tired of having this issue. I have reqad every thread about it but none helps to solve this problem. I know I can recover the data with Itunes and Icloud but Im just tired of doing so. I want this problem solved. Anyone can give me a real answer on how to solve this???

Use bluetooth for what.
It only supports stereo speakers/headsets, handsfree telephone devices, some keyboards, some apps from the app store, and internet tethering if provided by your carrier.
Outside of these, it does not connect to other phones or computers.

  • Contact disappeared from iPhone but not deleted from Address Book on sync

FYI, I have an iPhone 3G running iOS 4.2 (the latest), and I have never so much as thought about MobileMe.
Until two days ago, I have had no reason to doubt that my iPhone's Contact list is the same as my MacBook's Address Book list. I now have no confidence that the same info. exists in both: I know for sure that at least one contact long present in both has disappeared from the iPhone, yet syncing all contacts neither returns it to the iPhone nor deletes it from Address Book! I need help troubleshooting this contact as well as verifying that there aren't other similar anomalies corrupting my data, hopefully without manually comparing all 685 entries...
Two days ago, a certain number, let's call it (310) 555-5555, popped up in my recents list as a missed call and in my visual voicemail. When I listened to the voicemail, I discovered that (310) 555-5555 was Jane Smith. I remembered entering Jane Smith several months ago, so I thought hmmm, does she have a second number? I tried to add (310) 555-5555 to an existing entry, only to find my iPhone had no entry for Jane Smith anymore at all! I did not delete her myself, and I'm not aware of any 3rd-party app that ought to have affected the entry. I haven't called Jane Smith or (310) 555-5555 in quite some time, so I have no idea how long the entry may have been missing. I searched the whole phone (left of the first home screen)
At the next opportunity, I looked in Address Book on my laptop, and indeed found the expected entry for Jane Smith, (310) 555-5555. I have no idea how she disappeared from my iPhone -- did I or some third-party program delete her? Or did it happen through some sync issue? -- but I naturally worried that when I next synced, the deletion would sync, too, and I would lose the Address Book entry, leaving me without Jane Smith's number at all.
Such an event would defeat the entire purpose of backing up my phone contacts to my computer; I just moved to iPhone this spring after being a Palm user since 1997, and the idea that iPhone might not be reliably syncing my contacts is frankly terrifying. I checked and saw that my Address Book listed 685 contacts to iPhone Contacts's 684, so I decided to risk a sync in hopes that maybe I had caused a one-off deletion. I wrote down Jane Smith (310) 555-5555 just in case and hit sync.
The results of the sync and my subsequent troubleshooting have seriously undermined my confidence in the fidelity of the sync process. The first time, nothing changed--I still had 684 iPhone, no Jane Smith, and 685 Address Book, including Jane Smith.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Before conecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Now connect your phone and when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar click on its name.  Go to the Info tab and confirm than your have checked Sync Contacts with Address Book.  Now further down on the Info tab under Advanced>Replace information on this iPhone check Contacts.  Click Apply and sync your phone.  This will replace the contacts on your phone with the contacts in Address Book.  (When complete you can go back to iTunes preferences and uncheck "Prevent..." to re-establish automatic syncing if your prefer this.)

  • I may have accidently deleted my address book. How do I retrieve it?

I looked in my junk folder and in the recycle bin, no help.

This add on will recover deleted contacts but I am not sure if it will do an entire address book. You might check it out and see.

  • Iphone contact changes get into address book, but not entourage

I would appreciate any help. I sync my iphone into entourage via ical and address book. Any changes I make in entourage contacts or calendars get placed into the iphone. Calendar events get synced both ways no problem. New contacts entered into in the iphone get added to the address book and make it into entourage. So far so good.
The problem I have is when I modify an existing contact on my iphone (for example add a phone number) and then sync it. The new phone number gets placed into the address book just fine, but does not get updated in entourage. Everything else goes both ways just fine.
I have tried re-setting the synch history in isync and then restarting my computer. this is no help.
I have a new Macbook pro and am running the latest versions of everything on both my laptop and my iphone.
    thanks,
    Tony

    the plot thickens.
I can totally create or delete a contact on my iphone, and those changes makes it into entourage.
the only bug is when I "modify" an existing contact in my iphone.

  • Merging iphone contacts with my computer address book

    Hi all,
I'm new at this so please forgive this basic question. I have far more contacts on my iphone than on my computer and I'd like to send them over and merge them. Help....
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hello prjacobs
As long as you have at least 1 contact in Address Book on the Mac/PC then you can connect the iPhone.
In the info tab automatically it should be set to Sync with address book if there is a check mark in the box asking it to do so. If you have a Windows PC then you will need to pull the pull down tab down and choose the application that has your contacts.
Once this is done, press Apply and or Sync. You should get a message asking to merge, choose merge.
If you get a message stating a 5% Sync alert read it carefully.
There will be three things to look for "Add, Modify,Delete" Adding means the number of contacts that will be added to the program.
Modify means the number of contacts that seem similar and need to know which one has latest info.
Delete means you will loose contacts that you may of deleted off the iPhone and they exist in address book and thus will be removed.
Your delete number should typically always be 0. Sometimes might be 1 to 5.
Remember you can not sync contacts to Mac/PC if you are using Mobile Me Syncing of Contacts via the cloud or using Exchange. These have to be turned off if you want to sync directly from iPhone to PC/MAC.
You can always turn it back on once the program is updated and sync normally with Exchange/Cloud again later.

  • How can I delete my address book data

Running Lion. I've read in several post that the data file is in home folder/library/application support/AddressBook.
To test this I set up a temporary user account, added a few contacts to the address book, quit the application, deleted the entire AddressBook folder and contents in home folder/library/application support/AddressBook, re-launched Address Book and the new contacts I just created are still there.
I quit address book, deleted this same folder and contents again, this time also deleted all address book preference files in library/preferences, re-launched address book and the new contacts are still there.
Anyone know where the data file is really kept? In a brand new user account there aren't many files in home folder/library so it shouldn't be too hard to find but I sure can't seem to.
    Any help would be appreciated.
PS. For those who want to know "why". I believe my daughter's Mac has a corrupt address book data file so I want to start over "fresh" but can't seem to locate where the true data file is.
    Thanks,

"Perhaps for recovery or  sync, don't know"
This was just a possible but the sync part of it really isn't possible in this case. In setting up a new temporary account on my Mac it would be an account without an iCloud or MobilMe account so there would be no syncing involved.
Address Book data for each user's account will be stored only within that users account. The fake contacts I've created in the temporary user account certainly don't show up in any other account.
Your behaviour "if I delete the files mentioned, there is absolutely nothing left." is exactly what I would expect. Just can't figure out (yet) what's going on, on my Mac because this expected behaviour is not happening.

  • How to sync iPhone 4 contacts to Mac address book

    Hello!
I can sync all my contacts from the Mac address book on my MacBook Pro to my iPhone 4. However, why does it not sync the iPhone contacts to the Mac address book? Should it not be like a two way sync? I was looking at the syncing options but it does give that option. I just want to make sure that I have the same contacts on my iPhone and Mac. I do understand that MobileMe does that. But till I can afford to have MobileMe, maybe there is another solution?
    Anybody... help!

I had a major drama doing this last night, have managed to restore my Address Book file with a backup after I mistakenly wiped all the contacts I had created on my iPhone. Yikes! I suggest when you sync your iPhone leave it plugged in after the sync until you check that the contacts are all where they should be. That way, the most recent backup that is done automatically when you plug in the iPhone will still have all your iPhone contacts should something go amiss and they can be restored. Also export your computer's Address Book (File>Export in Address Book) which should land in your Documents folder.
To get all my iPhone's contacts back into my Mac's Address Book, I created a group in my Mac Address Book called 'iPhones contacts'. When I synced the iPhone with my Mac, (Info tab>Sync Address Book Contacts in iTunes), I checked the box that says 'Add contacts created outside of groups on this iPhone to...' and checked the new 'iPhone contacts' group and when I synced, all the new contacts on the iPhone landed in my Mac's Address Book. Phew. Heartstopper!

  • Contacts created on iPhone not being added to Address Book

I want to sync all my Address Book contacts to the iPhone, which is working fine, but any contacts created on the iPhone are not copied to Address Book during syncing, which is rubbish.
In iTunes I currently have 'All contacts' selected for sync. Am I overlooking some iPhone setting somewhere?

I tried erasing all the phone data as you suggested, but to no effect whatsoever (apart from having to setup my email/wifi etc. all over again).
There's definitely something strange going on with the iPhone -> Mac connection. iPhoto shows the iPhone as being connected, even when it's not, and is still showing 23 pictures, which is what was on the phone before I reset it (they are now gone from the phone). iPhoto also calls it 'Apple iPhone', while I've changed the name to something else.
Calendar syncing is still functioning flawlessly, but contacts created on the phone are still not being transferred.
What's more, the contacts I added to the iPhone before I reset all the data were still on the phone afterwards.

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks

  • Synching iPhone 4 to Mac duplicating address book entries

    I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.2, iTunes 10.5.1, and Outlook for Mac 2011 14.1.3
For some reason, I have been having issues lately synching my iPhone 4 (running iOS 5.0.1). Sometimes, my address book will be completely blank, other times, it will end up creating duplicates of all entries. Other times, calendar entries may disappear. I'm religious about backing up, so it isn't a crisis, but has gotten a tad annoying. I have tried changing the settings in iTunes>Info on sync preferences, but so far, nothing has made a difference...
    Any ideas on fixing this?

I do not think the problem was solved - what was completed was a work around.
I have the same problem - open itunes, plug in iphone, select info, synch contacts, select merge contacts (iphone contacts will move to address book and visa versa) Mac to Iphone success - Iphone to Mac - no go.
This is how it should work - and it is not???  Why?  How do you make the itunes synch work?
Synching with mobile me is a great work around - if you use mobile me.
Synching with icloud is great to backup but does not get contacts added on your iphone onto your mac.
How do you get contacts added to your iphone into address book on your map with synch?

  • After switch from Outlook to Mail, iPhone won't sync with Address Book

    Good morning
Using Lion, I recently dropped Outlook 2011 in favor of  Mail (did not uninstall though, do not want to).
My problem is this, iTunes and iPhone won't sync with Address Book, they remain stuck on syncing with the Outlook address book. The issue is only for the address book, the iPhone syncs fine with iCal for some reason.
    Please help!
    Thanks

Hey, I'm Michael and I work for connex.io, an address book app.
Did you try hooking them all up to iCloud? That should do that trick for Address Book and iPhone.
Alternatively, you could try connex.io. You would be able to sync all of your contacts between iPhone, Address Book and Outlook (and more if you want to). It also de-duplicates, cleans, completes and updates your contacts for you. So you jsut connect your services and connex.io takes care of the rest.
If you want to try connex.io, check out: www.connex.io or if you need any more tips: [email protected]
I hope this helped you out.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Outlook Express Address Book....is this the only one for PCs?

    Directed to any PC experts!
I have two mail accounts on my iPhone 3G
    1) a gmail account
    2) an outlook express account (pop 3 server)- this is my main email address and i've had it for a long time.
If i were to delete the outlook express email account (because it appears to be kind of buggy lately) would i lose my windows address book, which is of course, provided by outlook express? This is the address book that syncs to the iPhone. Outlook express is a program, not a free floating internet email like hotmail and such.....so i am thinking that just deleting the email component would not delete the address book which seems to be an integral part of windows.
Does anyone have any ideas on this?

The address book used by Outlook Express is a separate application from the OE application.
Deleting an email account from OE will not touch or affect the address book used by OE.
You don't need to access an email account with OE to sync your iPhone's address book direct with the address book used by OE via the iTunes sync process.
