My iPhone 4S keeps freezing up

My iPhone 4S keeps freezing. When I make a call it often does let me hang up, I have to turn the phone off completely. Home page freezes and all of a sudden it all comes back on, it's very annoying

How exactly are you "forcing shut down?"
Try a restore in iTunes:
Plug in the iPhone to a computer with iTunes loaded on it, launch iTunes, locate the phone under DEVICES. Press Restore, and let it restore to factory settings. When it is done, you can:
Set Up as New iPhone
Restore from Backup
You want to try restoring from a backup first so you won't lose your data, but if the freezes continue you may have to set it up as new and then resync all of your purchased media.
