my iphone 5 keeps randomly shutting off and won't turn back on unless I plug it in to the charger

I'm experiencing the same issue. It's one thing to have to re-power up but to not be able to do so without plugging in the charger when the battery is substantially full, is a real drag.

  • My iPhone 5 keeps randomly shutting off...

I've had my iPhone 5 for a year now, and its worked fine until now. Recently, it has has a ton of glitches and i dont know what to do! First, the battery percentage always stays the same, it never changes, and also it randomly shuts off every two minutes. I can't even finish listning to one song before my phone completley shuts off like an old fashioned TV screen, randomly slippting into a bunch of lines and then shutting off. It always turns back on right away, but it shuts off again in the next couple of minutes. Also, if i try charging up to a full percentage, it overheats from th inside and gets extremley hot, causing half the screen to momentarily black out.  I havent backed it up to my computer ever, and when i try backing it up now, my phone shuts off before it can finish. I am at my wits end with this stupid glitch, and i really dont want to lose all my pictures, apps, music, contacts, ect. I just dont know what could possibly fix it!

  • My iPhone 5s keeps randomly shutting off and restarting. It can either be in use or just sitting there and it will turn off. I can't figure out what is wrong.

My phone randomly shuts off. I will be in the middle of using it and it will completely turn off. I can also not have used it all night and I will pick it up and click the home button and then it will flash the apple restart screen. I'm not sure what is causing this as I have only had the phone for about two weeks. It's a little concerning and just wanted to see if anyone knew what it could be without me having to go into the Apple store.
    Thanks!

Iphone 5 keeps shutting down and resetting, blue screen and other colored screens

  • My iPhone 4S keeps randomly powering off

Do you know why my iPhone 4S keeps randomly powering off?  I have rebricked my phone and it still does this.

Are you using a case with your iPhone? It could be holding down the power button on the top of the iPhone.
You can try restoring the iPhone as a new device, if that doesn't do it send it in for service.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro keep randomly shutting off with or without the adapter?

I had this problem before that my 13-inch Macbook Pro would stop working without the plug, and then it started resetting its clock to 2000 every time i rebooted it until it eventually died altogether. I found out that my data cable was bad and got it replaced.
Now, it works completely fine except that it will randomly shut off without warning, even if it's plugged in.
I don't know if it means anything, but I'm currently using a Macbook Air adapter.
It's actually shut off while I was typing this post. Incredibly frustrating.

I think (let others bust my chops if I'm wrong) that the MBA uses a 60W MagSafe Power Adapter, whereas the MBP uses an 85W MagSafe Power Adapter. That could be causing problems.

  • My iPhone 3GS keeps on shutting off randomly and does not come back on

    Hi
I have had this problem for months now. With this problem anything that I do it can randomly shut of and the only way to get the iPhone back on I'd to plug it into a power source. I have tried restoreing it and resetting it several times and it hasn't worked.
If anyone has a solution or is going through the same problem I would be very grateful for a response. :)
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I had a similar problem with iphone 3GS, my battery was not keeping its charge so I decided to replace the battery, not easy!!  The new battery seemed to be charging fine and it is fully charged but my phone either switches off as soon as you take it off charge or it only lasts a couple of minutes.  Could I have not connected something properly when I replaced the battery or is the battery faulty?

  • Does anyone elses iPhone 5 just randomly shut off or freeze on a blue screen after only having it for a week??

I got a white 16G iPhone 5 last Sunday (Jan 6th 2013) and I have already been on the phone with apple once and in the store twice about this issue. The phone randomly shuts itself off or freezes on a blue screen for 5-30 minutes at a time. Apple reset my phone thinking that would fix the issue, it didnt. I went into the Sherway location while it was frozen and they told me i couldnt get an appointment until tomorrow so ill have to wait... I'm hoping that they just gave me a dud of a phone and that when i go back in tomorrow they will just give me a new phone because this is getting ridiculous. if this problem continues once they finally give me a new one than i suggest that no one else buys the iPhone 5. I had the 4 and had only one problem in a year and a half, and i've had more in one week with this model. Let me know if anyone else is experiencing this too or if my phone is just a dud.

First I would try restoring from your backup. If that does not work I would restore to factory-new condition and manually add apps and other things back on since there may be something corrupted in your backup.

  • IPhone 5 keeps periodically shuts off

    Hello,
I don’t know what is going on with my phone lately. I take good care of it, and it looks brand new. I had it for about a year and a half now, I guess since I preordered it. So it isn’t from dropping it or mishandling it either.
My phone just randomly turns off, regardless of the battery percentage or what apps I have open. I might not having anything open, as in I closed out of all apps by double clicking the home button and removing anything listed, and my phone will still shutdown, even with nothing running. This doesn’t happen too often, but it seems to happen once a week on average. It has shut down when my battery was at 50%, 38%, 20%, 12%, so there is no pattern to it.
When it does shutdown and I try to turn it on, it says I need to charge it. I plug it in and it will still not turn on when I try. I actually have to wait about 5 minutes for it to charge a little before it will allow me to turn it on. However, if I leave it sit about 30 minutes without plugging in it will turn on. I am also not one of those people who is constantly charging their battery either. I try to wait for the phone to turn off because the battery is truly dead, at 1% and then charge it. I know many people are going to say that it doesn’t matter about charging the battery when it isn’t fully drained, but I still believe it does.
Anyway, I have been having this issue for several months now. It seems to be since Apple did the last OS patch, or right about there. I never had the issue before this.
Here is one of the dump files from the last crash, this one is saying safari caused it, which I did try to launch safari when it crashed, but this is not always the case. Curious if anyone has any suggestions or if Apple can possibly put another patch through to fix this. I have been reading where other people seem to recently have this issue as well.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • My iPhone 4 just randomly shut off and wont turn back on

i was in class and got a text that i ignored. during the class, i got 2 or 3 more vibrations, notifications or new texts, i dont know.
once class was over, i decided to check my texts, however, my phone wouldn't turn on.
i tried holding the power button for a tad, thinking it might've shut off on its own, knowing it was pretty much full charge, maybe at about 91% battery life.
i know the phone shuts off at around 3% to conserve memory, and when this happens it shows you a red empty battery image when you try to turn it and then shuts off again. this did not happen so im pretty sure it's not the battery. i thought perhaps it had overheated so i waited a few hours. it's been around 9 hours, i don't think it overheated. i plugged it in the charger, that didnt do anything. i waited half an hour as i know when the battery is really low, it doesnt turn on right away when you plug it in. nothing happens i can't seem to get it to work. my computer doesn't recconize it either.
i have tried all combinations of buttons. i've held the power button, i've held the home button for 10 sec, i've held both, i tried putting it in DFU mode but NOTHING is working. im seriously panicking because i am no longer in warranty and it really ***** that it just broke like that while i was doing nothing...
if anyone can please help me get this baby running again, ill much appreciate it

Hold the Main Screen Button for a few seconds, then press the top button. My iPhone4s does this, I havent really found a solution on why it does this. But I found the solution to turn it back on, Holding the Main Screen Button for a few seconds then pressing the top button worked for me. If I find out why it does this and how to fix it, ill be back to repost.

  • My iPhone 5 just randomly shut off and it won't turn back on. What do I do?

I pulled my phone out of my pocket to check something and i hit my home button to open my phone and it wouldnt turn on. I tried the lock button and that didnt ework either. I thought my phone may have died so i tried to turn it back on and that didnt work. It had about a 40% battery and this has not occured any in the past. Please help!!!

Connect iPhone to Wall Charger for 10 minutes, it may turn ON itself. If still nothing, keep on charger and Reset, hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until the iPhone begins to respond.
