My iPhone 4s wifi connectivity has suddenly gone loco [multiple issues]

My iPhone 4s (that I've had for just over 14mos now) has automatically tapped into my office's visitor  wifi ever since we first established it in Aug2013. And then suddenly, last Friday, it dropped the connection. But that was merely the kick-off to  my varied wifi troubles.
Issues I have had since--
*Greyed out Wifi switch in Settings menu [resetting network settings fixes this....but it later returns]
* the "unable to connect to XYZ Network " pop up message
*Phone is stuck forever searching for wifi networks
*once connected to a wifi network, not being able to maintain connection for more than 5min
Yes, I have tried rebooting...it sometimes helps...but ONLY TEMPORARILY.  I have had these issues, in various locations since Friday [ at the office, and at the library, and at home.] Is there *ANYTHING* I can do?  I am very reluctant to endanger my phone display /other components by putting it in the freezer...but yes, I've heard of that trick...haven't done it though. Besides...if the fix is some sort of trick of temperature , how long lasting could that possibly be??
HELP?? ANYONE??

I have found through research that the iPhone 4S has been manufactured with a batch of Wi-Fi chips that are prone to malfunctioning.
I am currently suffering from your problems and to add to it, my range has degenerated badly.
I fear that the problem is mainly hardware (and maybe firmware which senses chip temps) so resets and setting resets won't do much.
I have seen many people have success with superheating their iPhone's Wi-Fi chip area (on the back, the top right corner where the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth compenents reside) via a heat gun or a hair dryer. The process has no set or recommended form. Meaning if you look this "fix" up you'll get mixed procedures.
Leave iPhone on
Take heating device and heat that corner (some do it by blowing into the headphone jack)
Wait until the temperature alert ("Your device is too hot for use" or something like that)
Turn it off
Leave in the freezer or let it cool off completely.
Turn on.
I tried this to no avail, twice actually. (Maybe I'm using the wrong procedure.) If you have the time (really just 20 minutes) it could be the difference between keeping your iPhone and having to spend cash money on a new/used phone.
I have no idea what the risks are, I'm no electrical/technical engineer or whatnot, but this is all from research that has shown to help some, if not many.
Here is a quote of another solution I found, I HAVE NOT TRIED IT YET.
"FIXED = SOLUTION. My girfriend had the same problem for almost a week. Tried everything suggested on these pages and more.
I managed to FIX this by = ''Unsrewing the screw(s) on the Battery connector & disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes'' Then reconnect the battery, put the contact clip back in & screw the screw(s) back in, Powered it on, left the phone for 2 minutes to boot up fully then went in to settings and the Wi-Fi Network was there to connect to. Had a solid connection ever since."
To open your iPhone, you most likely need a pentalobe screwdriver. Just take a quick look at the two screws at the bottom. To take apart the internal components (the second solution) you'll need a precise, small Philips head (#00 or #000).
Here are some links of super quality ones on Amazon. I currently have these, they're AWESOME.
Wiha (German brand) Precision #00

Wiha Precision Pentalobe
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000O5IM2Y/http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GY5WO8G
Note: There is also another "fix". This one is really hardware based. The iPhone has a screw at the top that grounds the Wi-Fi antenna to the board. If this screw does not make proper contact or if the EMI shield has been roughhoused with, Wi-Fi performance will decrease. Many have fixed their Wi-Fi problems by tightening this screw.
GOOD LUCK! Might as well try these fixes before you put money down for a new phone!

  • Wi-Fi Broadband connection has suddenly gone usele...

    Hi Guys,
I've just moved into a new property and I've had the internet working a treat for the past week or so. However since Sunday when I tried to watch the F1 race and download something at the same time, my wi-fi connection has become rather useless.
First it couldn't find a signal, then when it does find a signal it's 2-3 bars and rather slow (pictures don't load on websites) and then when I think it's working, it loses the signal again. If i reset the router, it's fine for 5 minutes then goes funny again.
The router is in my housemates room, which is next to my room, it's less than 5 metres away, and he hasn't had a problem, the other housemate has had problems too.
Everything was working fine until I decided to watch the GP and downloaded something at the same time - would that have caused me problems?

Sounds like you have interference on the wireless channel your router is using.
My suggestion is to download a small program onto your computer called inSSIDer this will show all the wireless routers in your local area.
Have a check to see what wireless channels are in use, then check Here to see how to change channel to an unused one

  • My iPhone 4s has suddenly gone to a black screen!!

my iPhone 4s has suddenly gone to a black screen and so i connected it to iTunes to restore it. the error message; the iPhone could not be restored. this device isn't eligible for the requested build. what do i do????

Charge using the AC adaptor for at least 30 minutes, and if not on repeat the reset.
If still not responding, there is a hardware problem that needs evaluation by Apple or an Apple authorized service provider.

  • What has suddenly gone wrong with Facetime? I'm using OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.3

What has suddenly gone wrong with Facetime? I'm using OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.3

No, cannot revert to the original. Suddenly this new Facetime was imposed on me and it doesn't work. It's okay on a year old MacBook Pro, and it's ok in the iPhone 4S. Just not ok on the imac running on 10.6.3. Cannot try OS update suggested because I am currently 300 miles from the Mac and travelling so will have to wait until I get back. Reluctant to install mavericks because of all the complaints I have seen about incompatibilities. Appreciate the business reasons for constant OS updates, but businesses themselved would always rather remain with tried ant trusted software. I stopped using iMovie entirely because suddenly a new version was imposed that required re-leaening the whole process.

Wow!  I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside.  Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly.  It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle.  Of course I took no pictures!!!  I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress...  The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect.  After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though.  There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top.  After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen.  I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background.  After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle.  After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange.  But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.

  • Firefox has suddenly gone wrong. I was successfully running both Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. I auto-accept upgrades including the most recent Firefox upgrade and the suggested upgrade to Adobe Flash 10.1. But after this, Firefox stopped

Firefox has suddenly gone wrong. I was successfully running both Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. My laptop is new and has plenty of RAM and HDD. I auto-accept upgrades including the most recent Firefox upgrade and the suggested upgrade to Adobe Flash 10.1. But after this, Firefox stopped working and does not work when I re-load Firefox 3.6. Also IE8 now works very slowly and does not locate major websites like Microsoft without a 'can't find the website message' and having to pressing Return a second time. When I do get to the Mozilla website and click on the button to try to download Firefox 3.6.6, I get this message "Oops! Internet Explorer could not find mozilla3.snt.utwente.nl". Can you help with what has gone wrong? As it stands, I can't use Firefox at all. Note: because Firefox did not work after the upgrade, I've downloaded the IE8 version of the Adobe Flash 10.1. What I really want is to be able to use both Firefox and IE8. But is this possible if they use different versions of Adobe Flash?

I have been having the same problem as the original poster. After upgrading to Ffx 3.6.6, the program asks you to upgrade to Flash Player Plugin 10.1. I download and installed 10.1 only to find videos weren't loading.
In my case, the problem is the previous installation of Flash Player (9.0.47) was somehow messing things up. To fix this, because I already had Flash plugin 10.1 installed I had to uninstall 10.1 using the uninstaller from adobe and then manually remove any files related the old flash player plugin 9.0.47
Here is a run-down of my process:
    0. To check if you have a previous installation of the Flash Plugin lurking around, in Firefox go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins (tab). At this point you may seen both Flash plugins.
    1. Proceed to uninstall Flash Plugin 10.1. Adobe provides an uninstaller here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
( you have to make sure you have nothing running when you execute the installer).
    2. On my Mac (sorry I don't know what it is in Windows) I searched the hard drive for any files/folders with "Shockwave". I found a folder called "Shockwave 10". It wasn't removed by Adobe's uninstaller. For safety I deleted it and then emptied the trash.
    3. I then went to My HD -> Library -> Internet Plugins.
Remove the file and folder named "Flash player.old"
    4. Restarted; ran the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 installer. Restarted again.
    5. Opened up ffx and double checked the plugins list (see step 1). Version 10.1 is installed and available. Went to problem sites to test it out and Success!
    Hope this helps.

  • When I don't use my iphone, my wifi connection stops

since a few days my wifi connection stops when I don't use my Iphone. So when someone send me a messag with whatsapp I don't receive it untill I turn on, use my iphone back. What do I have to do so that my wifi is always on? I did'nt change anything on my Iphone, but it does'nt work since a few days.

I just don't understand one thing. Before last week I had no problems about it (I had wifi all the time, even when I did'nt use my iphone, and now (when I came back from holiday) it does'nt go anymore. So buying a iphone wasn't a good idea. I have wifi, but if I don't use my iphone it is not possibel to reach me because the wifi falls off.
I understand that it is for saving the battery. But I still don't understand that it stops working (my wifi).

  • TS1398 My iPhone's wifi connection is slow compared to my other devices at home.

My iPhone's wifi connection is slow compared to my other devices in my house. I'm ranging from 2-3.5 Mbps on the iPhone while my other devices are getting speeds of 35-40 Mbps. I'm right next to my AirPort Extreme ac. I've tried resetting every possible device. I've done a reset of my phone ( no data lost). Any suggestions?

Remove all power from the router for about 15 seconds. If that doesn't fix it check if you have MAC filtering enabled on the router. If you do the iPhone needs to be added to the Allowed list.

Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including
    - previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    - recently used Bluetooth accessories
    - VPN and APN settings

  • My iPad 3 wifi connection has been working perfectly.

My iPad 3 wifi connection has been working perfectly. Now I have lost automatic connections and when I join wifi told it is the wrong password. IT IS NOT. I have reset the network settings and can then connect with no problem. Keeps happening every time I try to join another wifi connection. Seems I can only store one connection at a time. This is a new problem and previously all of the connections I am tying to join worked absolutely perfectly. Is this a software update problem?

Thanks. Seems unlikely that several Wi-fi routers that were working fine have simultaneously stopped doing so.
Have tried a full system reset and set up the ipad as a new device again. Will find out whether that has worked when I try to connect my next wi-fi router tomorrow morning. I will also double check with the other ipad users whether they have been experiencing any problems with the router I could not connect to today until I reset the network settings.
    Thanks again
