My iPhone 4s wifi is highlighted grey and wont turn on?

I have an iPhone 4s and all of a sudden, randomly, my wifi has stopped working. It has come up highlighted in grey and i cannot swipe the on/off button, therefore i am unable to use my wifi. I have tried resetting the network and the phone itself and i have had no change. Also i have no insurance so if my iPhone has broken, so wold i be able to get it replaced as the problem was not caused by me, but the phone itself? or will i have to put up with this?

This almost always indicates a hardware problem that requires replacement. However, try the suggestions in the following support article:
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
If your phone is still under warranty or AppleCare coverage, it probably will get replaced for free. If not, epect to pay for an out of warranty replacement ($199 in USA)

MY 4s is just another piece of junk .... wifi ,blue tooth ,hot spot setting all greyed out......told to do all the same things . I am confindent it is software related , however I can not go back and try to reinstall the firm ware or software piror to this ... last comments where is all else fails return it ....... so glad I picked Iphone over all the other brands.... At least they don,t have these issues.. life would be so boring if I could just pick up my phone ,connect to blue tooth and recieve a call while driving ....create a hot spot to connect the kids note books ,to entertain them ............ So Much for a quiet Easter Trip........

You should get it looked at by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or an Apple Store next to your place, this might be a hardware issue.

I would instead say you have a problem since nearly all IPs work as advertised. IF you do have a bad phone, take it into an Apple store and get a replacement. Hope you didn't jailbreak your phone though as Apple probably will tell you, you broke it, you fix it.

Hold down home and sleep buttons for about 15 seconds. If you don't see the Apple logo, plug phone into wall charger for at least 15 minutes.

Try resetting it:
Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until you(hopefully) see the Apple logo, then release.
If that doesn't work, it's a trip to an Apple store...take US $199 if you don't have AppleCare plus.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
1. Verify that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
2. Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings
3. Ensure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
4. If your issue is still unresolved, perform a software restore in iTunes.

i noticed this morning that my wifi button is stuck and will not turn on, i reset my networks, and I also restored my phone and it still won't work... I am unsure on what to do now. please help

Just to add my 2p worth.
I turned the light on the phone on and kept doing video recording to drain the battery, I let it die completely, recharged it and the wireless came back on. Powering on and off through the software and power on buttons didn't work. None of the other suggestions I'd read were any help, and to be honest some were stupid. Your method of draining the battery is up to you, the light and video is a good way to drain it quickly.
The best thing I can think of is that there is some hardware on the wifi that gets put in an inconsistent state and that powering on and off does not fix it as there could be some sort of trickle going through the hardware to keep it alive. Draining the battery allows the hardware to be really turned off and it puts it back into the right state.
Of course your milage may vary, but its a simple option to try and costs nothing.

The passcode lock doesn't prevent the iPhone from being backed up and synced with the computer used for syncing the iPhone - unless the iPhone hasn't been synced with the computer since the passcode lock was set up. And you wouldn't be able to see your info on the iPhone either.
Contacts should already be on your computer - not a good idea to depend on an iPhone or any cell phone alone for such import data.
There is nothing you can do.

My iPhone 4 just randomly shut off and wont turn back on

i was in class and got a text that i ignored. during the class, i got 2 or 3 more vibrations, notifications or new texts, i dont know.
once class was over, i decided to check my texts, however, my phone wouldn't turn on.
i tried holding the power button for a tad, thinking it might've shut off on its own, knowing it was pretty much full charge, maybe at about 91% battery life.
i know the phone shuts off at around 3% to conserve memory, and when this happens it shows you a red empty battery image when you try to turn it and then shuts off again. this did not happen so im pretty sure it's not the battery. i thought perhaps it had overheated so i waited a few hours. it's been around 9 hours, i don't think it overheated. i plugged it in the charger, that didnt do anything. i waited half an hour as i know when the battery is really low, it doesnt turn on right away when you plug it in. nothing happens i can't seem to get it to work. my computer doesn't recconize it either.
i have tried all combinations of buttons. i've held the power button, i've held the home button for 10 sec, i've held both, i tried putting it in DFU mode but NOTHING is working. im seriously panicking because i am no longer in warranty and it really ***** that it just broke like that while i was doing nothing...
if anyone can please help me get this baby running again, ill much appreciate it

Hold the Main Screen Button for a few seconds, then press the top button. My iPhone4s does this, I havent really found a solution on why it does this. But I found the solution to turn it back on, Holding the Main Screen Button for a few seconds then pressing the top button worked for me. If I find out why it does this and how to fix it, ill be back to repost.

I had the same problem and tried your solution. It worked!!! Yay!!! You have to hold the buttons down for a while. I was about to give up when the apple logo turned on. I'm so glad. I was really bummed when I went to wake my phone up and nothing happened. I wonder why it did that though. I hadn't dropped it or anything.

I cracked my screen about a month ago and just today the screen started changing colors and then went completely black. I have it plugged in now and it just keeps vibrating but the screen wont come on.. I've tried to hold down the home button and power button but nothing is working.
