My iPhone 4S will shut down for no reason

My iPhone 4S will shut down for no reason with plenty of battery life. Why does this happen?

Hi 123Guardian,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
The following article will provide some troubleshooting steps for your iPhone.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If that does not resolve the issue, refer to page 150 in the iPhone User Guide to Reset All Settings:
iPhone User Guide for iOS 7
manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
The final troubleshooting step would be to restore your device:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition. Before restoring:
Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes.
Back up your device.
Transfer and sync content to your computer.
I hope this information helps ....
Have a great day!
- Judy

My itunes account on windows xp shuts down for no reason.  If even try to delete something from my library it shuts down.   It wont recognize my iphone and there is an issue with network connectivity and I can't connect to the store.  I have already  reinstalled itunes and did a system restore on my computer, firewall has been checked, itunes is ok on firewall and virus scan done.  Ideas??

Same problem. I can see the itunes store so not a problem with windows firewall. The account is active on my iphone so i know i am not locked out. I can connect the PC to my iphone so i know itunes is working ok. It is just logging into itunes on this pc which doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is that the email address I use for my apple id has been offline for a while and is working again now, I'm wondering whether this has been the case for others who are having this issue?

  • My iPad shuts down for no reason and I have to reboot a few times to get it back on

My iPad will just shut down for no reason and I have to reboot a few times to get it back up and running

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • MBP unexpectedly shuts down for no reason- help!

MBP unexpectedly shuts down for no reason.
My MBP has been working fine, until I updated to 10.5. Originally this problem started in Bootcamp running XP, but has now done this once in OS X, just a while ago. There seems to be no difference- even when the psu is plugged in. Just now when it did this again, I pressed the power key and the led on the front blinked really fast, then there was a tone- like it was doing a firmware update (but I did the firmware update months ago!).
I've done a power reset- taking out the battery and holding the power key down for 20 seconds, which seems to have helped, but then again this problem seems to be rather sporadic, and one can never tell when it is going to happen next.
Oh yes, there is a mechanical 'click' that sounds when it does it- like a relay click. Is there a relay power related IC on the motherboard?
Any clues anyone? (I'm sending this exact letter to Apple as well)
    Tom

It's an interesting thread, but I seem to have the problem even when the cord is plugged in. I did have battery problems when I first got this MBP, but they seemed to settle down once I used the computer a bit more. FWIW, I have now got them mostly while using Bootcamp. BC beta 1.3 was really stable and good. It wasn't until I bought Leopard that this problem started. And again, it's only happened 3 or 4 times now.
I'll just have to keep saving. I'm sure Apple will wise up to this sooner or later. (Incidently, I haven't been able to send anything to Apple as I can't find their direct contact addie. Can someone 'remind' me? Thanks!

  • Ibook G4 shuts down for no reason

hi can anyone help me with a problem thats just started to happen with my ibook or maybe its happened to someone else and they have a solution. the problem i'm having is that my ibook just shuts down for no reason esp. when i'm online and won't start up again unless i remove the battery leave it out for a few seconds then put it back in and it press the on button. i have kept my software up to date and as soon as a new update is available its downloaded and installed on the computer and i also have intego security software on my mac, so this is why i'm a little confused if my software is up to date and i have my security software protecting my mac why is it shutting down i have ran virus scan after virus scan but it comes up clean every time, is my mac on the way out (its only 2 years old) or is there something i'm missing or not doing. i would be very thankful if anyone can help me with this because although there is plenty of shiny new macbooks out there i kinda like my ibook and i don't want to let it go with a fight. thanks again

    hi john
quick question is it possible for my ibook to reset its pmu itself, i looked up the effects of resetting the pmu on the apple site and one of the things it says will happen when the pmu is reset is that, "After the reset, on some iBooks and PowerBooks, the system clock is set to 00:00 (GMT), 01 Jan 1970 for computers with Mac OS X" , its just that when my ibook shuts down an i manage to start it back up the clock is set to 00:00 (gmt) 01 jan 1970 so does that mean its resetting itself or is the date going back to then because i take the battery out. thanks for your help so far

  • Maverick Shuts Down For No Reason

I am tired of Maverick shutting down for no reason. It even does it in Safe Mode. I've tried all the tricks of removing preferences, extension and still it keep shutting down with it's kernel panic screen. I'm the one that's paniced. I can't work in any program, such as Final Cut or Safari for too long as it will shut down. I'm thinking I need to reformat. Great. My least favorite option. But, I need to get all my files off, deauthorize software and hoping that I can get my mail and other contact back.
Hoping someone might have an answer to avoid reformating.
I keep sending in these reports to APPLE, 3 to 8 a day. Here is the most recent one.....Hopefully, I can post this before my computer decides to reboot.

My iPad shuts down for no reason, in the middle of doing something. Mine is wifi only, what can I do?

My iPad Air version 8.2 shuts down for no reason and then will only restart if it connected to power. When It restarts after I have connected it to power, the battery shows that it is dead and the clock displays 4 pm. Then the iPad reboots and the clock displays the correct time and the battery display shows the correct charge. The iPad is updated and works normally except for its spontaneous shutdown behavior.
My solution for the time being is to connect it to a portable external  battery when I am away from a power source.

Thanks Brian. Reboots don't work even though the iPad has a charged battery. It will boot automatically if it is connected to power.
I will take it to an Apple store even though it is out of warrantee.

My ipod touch shut down for no reason. now when i try to turn it on again, it goes to the apple icon to the spinning wheel, then it repeats.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My iPhone 4 just shut off for no reason and won't turn back on.. ??

    Hi there 203nancyc,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting

I just downloaded Lion and now my computer just shuts down for no reason. What is its problem?

I recently made the same mistake.  The thing to do is download the new Quicken Essentials for MAC.  After you install the new version follow the instructions on how to transfer your old files.  There is a way, it just takes a little time and, if I remember correctly, it takes the info from your quicken backup files. Hopefully you had auto back up on and your files are intact.  I didn't and reconstruction was a bear but entirely possible.  The new Quicken is quite different but seems to work quite well.  Good luck.

  • HP Probook 4710s shuts down for no reason!

    Hello everyone,
I own an HP Probook 4710s laptop for about 3 months now.
Recently I played Call Of Duty MW2 and after a while of playing it just shut down for no reason.
I played it before on my laptop but it didn`t shut down.
And just recently I played Age Of Empires 3 and it also shut down.
It happened twice with Age Of Empires.
Tho it never happened when I wasn`t playing games I`m still concerned and would appriciate any kind of help or explenation from anyone.
    Thank you.

Check your Event Viewer logs at the time of the shutdown and look for critical errors and events.  It sounds like a heat problem.

  • Shutting down for no reason

So, my ibook's been shutting down for no reason and seemingly random times. The battery is fine, but I noticed that it only shuts down when the power cable is plugged in. It might work fine for hours, and it's never shut off while actively charging (below 98% battery power). So it seems to me that it might be the dc board from what I've read around here on the forums, but I want to try to get confirmation before I try to fix it myself.
The only other detail about this situation that makes me wonder if it might be something else is that at almost the same time it seems that my power cable for my Western Digital external hard drive has gone out. Could they both be the effects of some kind of power surges? Or is it unrelated and just coincidental? I have everything plugged into a warrantied surge protector strip that should prevent that kind of thing, but I know failures do happen sometimes, or fluctuations in the power levels in a building might cause problems as well.
I'm probably overthinking all of this, so please help me out as I'm no expert at all. Thanks so much!
    Lydia

I just ran the PRAM reset, so we'll see how that does.
I have the problem when nothing except the power cord is plugged in.
The external is a USB drive with an AC source. The power cord for it acts the same way even when there's no drive attached, the light barely winks on then fades out. When the drive is attached it tries to start then turns off when the adapter (for the drive) turns its light off.
The power adapter for computer is fine according to all the standards on that page. I replaced it back in December, so it's not been used all that much. The connection looks good and the DC in board port looks fine too.
The fan comes on without problems and whenever I've checked the temps in istat it seems within normal levels.
What's the Apple Hardware test? I may have heard of it previously, but seem to drawing a complete blank on it now.
Also, at this point I'm leaning towards a power surge being the root of my problems. A bulb in an overhead light blew out the same day, I went to replace the bulb and had bought a high wattage bulb then found that the light had 2 bulbs inside and both had blown at the same time. My dad has some background in electronics and when I consulted him about the power surge theory he said it was likely. I went ahead and filed a report with the maker of the surge protector to try to get a claim in and possibly some kind of funds to help pay for whatever repairs are coming.
Thank you so much for your help and advice, I appreciate it!
