My iPhone 4S won't send texts to my husbands new iPhone 5s. Help?

My iPhone 4S won't let me text to my husbands new iPhone 5s. He can text me but I can't text him. My software updates are all done and I don't understand why I can't text him. Please help.

They can log into their Apple ID and view the profile. Then they can remove the device. It may take a little while after they do that for it to catch up to the iMessage servers. Another way is if they still have the phone to put their SIM back in and then turn off iMessage, or they could put their SIM in another iPhone and turn it off.

  • IPhone 3GS won't send texts anymore!

I have an iPhone 3GS, and since I upgraded to iOS5 it won't send text messages! I have plenty of service, but I can't send texts. The bar will get close to the end, but never say "message sent". I've rebooted and reset everything already multiple times and it STILL won't work. I turned off my 3G and it STILL won't work. it's driving me crazy! It never did this until I upgraded the software. someone please tell me how to fix it!

If you've talked to your cell provider, to verify nothing is wrong on the account provisioning end, the next step would be a device "restore".  This would be the logical next step to take after "reboot and reset".

  • New iPhone won't send texts/make calls

I broke my iPhone 5s a week ago, so I called *228 to put my number on an old iPhone 4 that my friend had so that I had a phone to use while I waited for my new one to come. My new phone is here and i have all my contacts on it as well as my apps, but it won't send text messages or make calls. I can't even call *228. I was wondering what I need to do so that this new phone is associated with my number again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Restart the phone by holding down the top/power button and the Home button at the same time until the device restarts.
Log on to your My Verizon account and select "Activate Device".

  • HT201263 My IPhone4 won't send text message to anyone.

My Iphone won't send text message to anyone. It always say fail and give me a red sign. I already reset it and turn it of and back on. It won't give me a number to choose from and will give me my email account. I call sprint and they say that my IPhone4 is a detective phone/don't work. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it?
It always say waiting for activation and what is SIM
Everything on my IPhone4 work but my message.

This is probably a carrier issue; have you talked to Sprint about this problem? Your complaint was truncated, so it appears to say a "conversation open" at the end. If this is the case then the device is sending text messages, and the other party is receiving them. If this is occurring then it sounds like a problem with the receiving party or carrier.

My Droid X won't send text messages to one of my contacts who also has Verizon when I am in North Carolina. I can send her picture messages from NC but everytime I try to send her a text I get a message saying "text not sent". I can receive messages from her but cannot send them. I don't have any problem when I am at home in Virginia but in North Carolina it won't send my messages. I don't think it is a problem with my plan or coverage bc I can send messages to everyone else in my phonebook, she is the only person that my phone won't send them too. It makes no sense to me. I can send texts to iPhones as either iMessages or SMS messages. However, I can't send texts to contacts who use other mobile devices (ie. Not an iPhone). However, I can receive SMS messages from non iPhones,
I've reset network settings and nothing has changed.
I only purchased my phone a week ago and have had this problem since new.
Any ideas anyone? Your help is much appreciated

    Hi Rhys1998,
Happy New Year!  If you are not able to send SMS messages to a non-Apple phone, try these troubleshooting steps:
If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204065
    Check your device settings
Make sure that you’re connected to a cellular data or Wi-Fi network.
Go to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage, Send as SMS, or MMS Messaging is turned on (whichever method you're trying to use). Learn about the different types of messages you can send.
    Check the recipient's contact info
Make sure that you're using the right phone number or email address.
Go to Settings > Messages > Blocked and make sure that they're not on your block list.
Restart your device and check for updates
    Restart your device.
Check for a carrier settings update.
Check for an iOS software update.
Check the system status for iMessage
Go to the Apple Services System Status page and check iMessage.Turn iMessage off and back on
Go to Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off, then back on.Sign out and back in to iMessage and FaceTime
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Go to Settings > FaceTime, tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
On your iPhone first, sign back in to iMessage and Facetime.
Sign back in to iMessage and Facetime on your other devices.
    Reset your network settings
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.Back up and restore your device
Use iTunes or iCloud to back up your content, then restore your device.
Send messages with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201287
What's the difference between SMS/MMS and iMessage?
SMS/MMS lets you send text messages and photos to other cellular phones or devices. iMessage lets you send text messages and photos to another iOS device over Wi-Fi, without worrying about text-messaging charges (cellular data charges may apply).
What do I need to use SMS/MMS and iMessage?
Here's what you need to use SMS/MMS and iMessage:
SMS/MMS: A text-messaging plan. Contact your carrier for more information.
iMessage: An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later.
Can’t get text messages from an iPhone - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS5185
You can't send SMS or text messages to a non-Apple phone (such as an Android, Windows, or BlackBerry phone), because the messages are sent as iMessage
This can happen if you used iMessage on your iPhone and then transferred your SIM card or phone number to a non-Apple phone. If you didn't turn off or deactivate iMessage before switching to a non-Apple phone, other iOS devices will still try to use iMessage to send text messages to your phone number. Follow the appropriate steps below to resolve the issue. Likewise, if you can't send someone a text who used to have an iPhone, having them follow these steps should resolve the issue.
If you still have your iPhone
Put the SIM card you transferred from your iPhone back into your iPhone.
Make sure that you're connected to a cellular data network (such as 3G or LTE).
Tap Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off.
If you don't have your iPhone or if you can't turn off iMessage
Use the deregister iMessage webpage. For more information, see Deregister iMessage: Frequently Asked Questions. These steps won't deregister your phone number with iMessage
Logging in to My Support Profile and changing your password or removing your phone number
    Texting STOP to 48369
    Resetting your network settings
    Changing your Apple ID password

  • Iphone won't send texts to non-iphone users

I woke up this morning and my iphone 4s will no longer send texts to non-iphone users.  I checked my SMS settings and they are fine.  I reset my network settings.  I restarted my phone.  Nothing is working.  I don't know how to fix this.  I can send imessages just fine.

I checked my SMS settings and they are fine.
The ONLY SMS settings is: Settings > Messages > Sends as SMS > ON.  Is that what you mean?
Did you contact your carrier to confirm that SMS is still provisioned in your account?

  • I can make calls and send text messages on my new iPhone 5, but incoming calls and texts still go to my old (non-Apple) phone. Is this a problem with the phone set up, or is it a problem with my old carrier or my new carrier?

I can make calls and send texts on my new iPhone 5,  but all incoming calls and texts are received by my old (non-Apple) phone.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Won't Send Texts and Now Won't Make Calls... Claims No Service

The other day my phone wasn't sending text messages, I could recieve them and make calls but no one was getting my messages I sent to them.  I've had this problem before and it would usually just correct itself, annoying, but it would.  Well it went on for two full days so I called and did the *228 and reprogrammed my phone.  And yes, I tried taking out the battery also and it didn't work.  It seemed to work after the reprogramming though.  Then the next morning, today, not only did my phone not send messages, after it had been working just fine, but it would not make calls either.  I couldn't even dial *228 without the call being dropped.  A message pops up every few minutes saying messages couldn't be sent and would be sent once service became available.  My phone has no service whatsoever, bars pop up for a second or two and then goes back to absolutely ZERO service.  This is very strange considering I live in a pretty decent service area, have never had issues with it before, and everyone else around here has Verizon as well and haven't had any issues.  On top of this, with my phone constantly searching for service, the battery ran out a lot faster than normal so I turned my phone off, since it was pretty much useless anyways.  Well, good thing I did because while it was one it was sending the text message I sent to my boyfriend this morning, before I'd realized my phone was having issues, over and over.  He recieved well over 100 duplicate messages.  And even when I turn my phone back on it keeps sending the message to him... even though on my end it still says no service and that none of my texts from today have sent and will be sent when service becomes available.  I called Verizon today and the woman I spoke with, while very nice, seemed clueless about my issue and tried to walk me through some troubleshooting she was just reading off of something and she herself didn't even know what she was telling me to do or what the benefit of it was.  When I finally said I was on my break at work and had to get back inside, she informed me she was just going over the basic troubleshooting and I could talk to Tech Support and they could further assist me.  I didn't have any time to stay on the phone then since it had already been 20 minutes that got me nowhere.  My issue now is I don't have a phone to even call Tech Support to try and figure out what's going because I was using a friends at work.  So long story short, my phone claims to not be able to send any messages but has sent over 100 messages to my boyfriend (and God knows who else who just hasn't told me), my phone won't make any calls without dropping them after a second, and my phone has no service even in good service areas... and all of these issues just came out of nowhere and my phone is pretty much unusable at the moment.  What I want to know is if there is anyway to fix this problem... or if I am just going to have to suck it up and get a new phone?  Thank you, I definitely appreciate the help.

Restart the phone by holding down the top/power button and the Home button at the same time until the device restarts.
Log on to your My Verizon account and select "Activate Device".

  • Phone won't send texts

For some reason, my phone will periodically not send text messages, and the problem won't correct itself until I either reboot it, or I turn on airplane mode, then turn it off. I receive a message that the text message won't send, and it gives me an option to retry. After several retry attempts, I give up and reboot or cycle airplane mode. I've seen some notes across the web about it maybe being a SIM card issue, or potentially a firmware issue. I'm hesitant to restoring the phone to factory, as there are a number of files, apps, and settings I'd have to restore. Any thoughts from the community?

Have you tried to power off, pull the SIM card then re-seat the sim card?

  • Tried everything, BB8530 won't send texts

Hey y'all. I recently activated my BB8530 (last night actually), and this morning, it refuses to send texts. And I cannot seem to receive texts either. I can access the internet and such.
I have tried every suggestion, including changing the US+1, to nine digits for dialing, etc. It still failed to send a message.
The error message reads as "SMS error 97, Message ID 185: Service denied"
    Can somebody help me out?
**Editted** Okay, i think i got it fixed. What you probably have to do is try updating your roaming services. You may even have to try to update it TWICE before it actually works. It worked for me. so for now, its been solved.

All right. Things I tried from this point on:
    1. The device tab doesn't even show up in my iTunes at all, except for when I put my phone into recovery mode.
    2. I tried all 4 of my USB ports, multiple times. All 4 ports are directly connected to the laptop, no hubs or anything
    3. I have not yet tried using another computer, I will try that as soon as possible.
    4. I tried recovery mode. Once I set the iPhone into recovery mode, iTunes was able to recognize it, making me very happy, but when I tried to restore I got error 1611 multiple times after many tries.
I also realized that these issues have only really arisen after I installed the most recent version of iTunes, but neither 10.3 nor 10.5 have given me any different results.
*****One very very odd thing I have noticed in my many uninstall/reinstall attempts: Usually when I have everything installed, neither my computer nor itunes will recognize the iphone. But as soon as I uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Driver, my computer at least recognizes the iPhone and I can access the pictures on it, but iTunes still does not.
The 1611 error code is supposedly relate to security software interfering with the ports. I've tried inactivating/unsintalling all my security software (lol...), again to no avail.
I'll try a new computer asap.

  • ANOTHER S60 phone (N85) that won't send text messa...

This is ridiculous - I'm experiencing the same problem again, as have hundreds if not thousands of other Nokia S60 users across a large number of different phones.  Having the "accepted solution" of all of these be a hard reset of the phone is just plain nuts.  This is a SERIOUS issue that has plagued Nokia phones for years as far as I can tell, and there still is no real solution.  I don't want to do a hard reset - I want my phone to just work like it is supposed to.
I too have looked at all the other settings - my message center number is correct, creating a new one with the same number did no good, etc. This is not a provider issue - it is a Nokia issue.
The first time it happened the phone crashed just after I had sent a text message - it then continued to resend that same message over 40 times to my fiancee's phone before I figured out that it was stuck in the outbox resending every three minutes.  I found I could delete the message, and keep it from sending over and over - but now my phone would not send any new messages, although it could still recieve them.  I pulled the battery and the sim card, and eventually my ability to send text messages was restored - no longer would they sit in the Outbox with "resending" next to them.  Then a couple weeks later it happened again - but this time with no crash of the phone first.  Once again I was able to get my outgoing texts back by jumping through hoops.  Now, a few days later, it has again popped up, and so far, I can't restore my ability to send messages.
So I could back up my phone and do a hard reset - but what is my guarantee that this is going to solve the problem forever?  Oh that's right, it doesn't.  Maybe I will get my ability to send messages back for a week, a month, etc.  Or maybe a day.  I'm just fed up with this issue.  I could put up with a bunch of other problems that the N85 has, but this just takes the cake - because it isn't just an issue with the N85.  It is endemic to all Nokia S60 phones as far as I can tell, from reading so many different accounts of the same issue. I can't wait for an Android phone to come to AT&T so I can dump this thing.  I loved my old 6230 S40 phone - it just worked.  But S60 just seems to have so many issues!

    Hello,
I also have a similar problem with sending text messages especially to some countries in Western Europe.
I can receive the messages though from the people that i cannot send too.
I would also like to point out that this does not only affect People with IPhones. I tried different SIM Cards in 4 different Droids. Same Problem and yes the SMS Service Center Number is correct. Verifed by AT&T's finest.
After spending numerous hours with AT&T on the phone (which was a waste of time since the first wave of Customer Service that AT&T throws at you has problems tying their shoe laces in the morning) I decided to search the Internet for a solution only to find out that there is a mass of AT&T Customers with similar issues.
It doesn't matter if the receiving party is with Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, T-Mobile Austria, Vodafone Germany, E-Plus-Germany, A1-Austria, Telering  and these are only a few on my list.
AT&T Customer Service keeps insisting that they do not have a Problem but that the Problem lies solely by every other provider in the world. Arrogance at it's highest level.
Now my Relatives and Friends in the US and Oversees are contacting their Providers in order to get an AT&TIssue figured out. Pathetic!
People get charged for Text Messages (20 cents per SMS or more) that never arrive at their destination and as far as i am concerned AT&T is conducting false advertisment.
This is by no means Global Coverage unless some Brainsurgeons at AT&T are under the impression that Europe and numerous other Countries are not located on the same Globe as they are. On second thought they might be right since they are way out there.
To bad that i live in an area that has limited Carrier Choices so switching creates some other Issues otherwise i would have cancelled my Contract a long time ago.

  • Not able to send texts at all on new S4

I just received my new Galaxy S4 and I am unable to send texts messages at all. I tried rebooting, clearing my messaging cache and everything else on the phone is connecting (web, phone, facebook, etc). Any suggestions?

I too am having this problem.  I cannot send texts; first noticed today 10/29; last text successfully sent 10/28 6:37pm.
Over the weekend I got a S4 update from Verizon.
I have tried to send to different people and get "failed" message. I have received a text message from one of these people.
When sending a text message that fails: Button with red "!" appears to left of message and "failed" appears under message in lower right corner.  Message bubble is gray (normally appears blue). When "!" button is pushed it tries to resend and fails again.
Have tried sending message to self and this fails too.
Have had this S4 since August and it worked properly. Never had an iphone.
    Please advise
