I recommend these troubleshooting steps if your iPhone battery does not charge:

If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge for up to 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue is persists, please contact Apple Support.

IPhone 5 Wont charge at all

Hey, just picked up my new iPhone 5 one week ago, and now it wont charge at
i had it run out of battery, then plugged it in, it charged to 15% then i took the charger out, used the phone untill it had 2% left, i plugged the charger in agian, and then nothing happend.
i tried to do a reset on it when it was on, nothing happend, so i turned the phone off, and then wanted to turn it back on, but i needed power, but the charger was in, so i just put the phone down with the charger in, and left it for about 30 mins, and still nothing, it comes with the logo that says "there is no power, please plug it in
i have unplugged it and turned the charger, used two different computeres to charge the phone and still the same logo, i have used the wall charger, and from different sockets, still same logo
i have also tired to let it be for ahole night, without any power to it, next morning, still same logo
i have done "resets" "hard resets" and still same logo
i have also tired with having iTunes open and all of that, still same logo

I had this same exact problem. I have been cursing the thing for a month. I finally came to this discussion blog, read a posting that suggested reaming out the charging hole. I do not have canned air, so I blew on it, then started on it with a toothpick. You would not believe the amount of junk I took out of there! I stayed at it for 5 minutes or more, blowing and scraping. Sure enough, plugged it in, and it is charging right now strong and steady. As someone said, sometimes the simplest solution is the best. Is that Occam's Razor?

Yesterday I plugged up my Iphone that I have had for about 6 Months and it only went up to 5%. After a while it stopped charging and "this accessory is not compatable" popped on the screen but i was using the regular phone charger. i have only dropped it once on the carpet. I sometimes have to hold it a certain way for it to charge and i left it on the charger all night. This morning i came back to see if it charged to at least 1% but it has a battery sign,charger chord picture, and a lightning bolt. neeed help...NOW!!!

Inspect the charging port area for dirt/debris/fluff build-up that may be preventing a good connection and use a wooden tootpick or a can of compressed air to clean it. Also look for bent or broken pins. Try another cable and/or charger block (be sure to always use a genuine Apple certified brand) in a known good outlet. If you're using a USB port, try another port. If you're using a hub, try a direct connection. If you're using a USB port in the front of a desktop computer, try one in the back. If all these fail, make an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar to have the device evaluated.

Try giving it a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
But if that charger works just fine with your other iPad and not this one, I'd call up your local apple store and make an appointment so they can look at it. Usually when an iPad wont' charge (when plugged into the wall with its supplied charger) it's
Bad outlet
bad power brick
bad cable
and if the charger is working with another iPad then that rules that out and the thing left is something wrong with the 30 pin port on the iPad, or perhaps something with the battery or software that monitors the battery. ANd things like that are beyond a user fix.
On the upside if the device is still under warranty - and barring any obvious signs of abuse or neglect - then it should be covered under the warranty.

Then make a backup, update the iOS, restore as new and test again. If issue persists with known good chargers/cables/outlets, only on this one device, get the iPhone 4S serviced/replaced by Apple.
If within warranty/AppleCare+, it should be free unless there is some type of damage to device. ($199 USD + tax or $79 USD + tax if you have AppleCare+ and incidents left)
If outside or warranty/AppleCare+, then expect to pay $199 USD + tax.

I guess that it just had a bad connecting port on the phone itself, no clue why it wouldn't work when plugged in both ways other than there is actually some differentiating between the two sides.

It sounds like the LifeProof case may have leaked. Did you pay for the Waterproof protection? If so, you can file a claim with lifeproof, pay the deductable, and get a replacement.
If you didn't purchase the Waterproof guarantee, if you have Applecare Plus, $79.00 will get you a replacement. If you don't have AppleCare Plus, then this is a $269.00 replacement lesson.

my iphone 5 wont charge I tried everything to turn it back on. It was working one minute but then I went to go use it and it wouldn't turn on, 10 hours later and it STILL won't turn on. It was fully charged, but I charged it some more just in case - didn't work. Then, I plugged it into my computer while holding the home button down in order to update/restore it. It updated but never restored, and after that it STILLLLL won't turn on. I then tried holding the home and lock button down together for a few minutes in order to restart it, yet it still won't turn on. It is getting extremely frustrating at this point. I googled any other solutions to this problem, but all of the solutions I've basically already tried, and ended up never working.

It sounds like the iPhone is experiencing issues upon startup, and may not be loading the firmware or operating system correctly. If you have not already done so, try resetting the iPhone while connected to power:

What iPhone model do you have?
The iPhone 4 can only go to iOS 7.1.2 which was released quite some time ago.
The iPhone 4s can be updated to iOS 8.2 (latest iOS). Is this what you did?
What are you using to charge? Check cable and charger for correct function.
